Why do they let any reporters in any locker rooms? Do the players not deserve privacy when they're getting undressed like every other human being? I've yet to hear a locker room interview that in any way enhanced my viewing of the game. There are certainly funny interviews that happen in locker rooms (as with anywhere else) now and again but nothing is gained from having reporters pester these players immediately after the game versus just mandating that each of them stop by the press room for a half an hour once they've showered and changed clothes.
To be fair, and this may sound sexist and rude, but who really cares about women sports? I doubt any reporter is banging on the door trying to get an interview with certain WNBA stars. It's just reality. Men sports are by far more lucrative, which is why reporters focus on them almost solely.

My favorite sideline reporter moment was after Notre Dame lost to Navy after beating them 43 straight times; "Coach Weiss, what happened on that last play?" "We lost the game, that's what happened!"
I saw this interview back in 1982. It was awkward. Even Sports Illustrated commented on it. Sideline reporters should be restricted to making their own comments. Coaches, trainers and players should not have to deal with them.
I agree. We don't need to hear the damned players or coaches in the middle of the game. Let them do their job, perhaps after the game a short blip would be okay. Television interferes with sports too much and it's not necessary.
A coach has a hundred issues to deal with such as halftime adjustments to his team performance. The least of his concerns is these nitwit reporters make or female asking stupid questions and distracting his focus on the game.
True, I’ve never seen a sideline reporter ever get a meaningful conversation out of anyone during a game. Right after the game I think is fine though and has lead to some memorable moments.
Another great quote came from outfielder Alex Johnson when he played for the Indians in 1972. The reporter: "Alex, you hit only 2 homeruns in 1971 but you've already hit 6 this season. What's the difference?" Alex: "Four." And with that he went out & took batting practice. Way to go Alex!
TC Roland Keith Jackson had a great broadcasting career, but he certainly had his flaws. He was a bad front runner. You could almost hear him willing Tennessee to lose in the 99 Fiesta Bowl. He loved Bobby Bowden. Another game I remember hearing his preferences show was a USC-UCLA game back in the very early 80s. He loved him some John Robinson. He was also big on Ohio State, Michigan, and Notre Dame. Listen to his call of Bo Jackson's first long TD in the 83 Iron Bowl against Alabama. You could hear him cough up the call like it tasted bad.
I majored in broadcast journalism in college, and I've NEVER liked the idea of network reporters doing interviews at halftime when coaches, who are on a time constraint, and need to get to the lockerroom, decompress, check on injured players to determine if they can play the 2nd half, go over game strategy and make adjustments. Reporters can do those interviews AFTER the game.
@@JStarStar00 plus, Saban loves talking to sideline reporters and looking at the camera every three seconds......so they are pretty different in that regard
At some point every network decided unanimously to exclusively hire a specific demographic of people to report on football from the sidelines who have zero football knowledge.
"At some point every network decided unanimously to exclusively hire a specific demographic..." Do you have any evidence to support this? No? Didn't think so. Go back to watching Fox News and believing their little fairy tales.
Reporter: You're behind by 15 points here at halftime. What are you going to do differently in the 2nd half? Coach: Well, we need to score 16 points and stop them from scoring at all. If we do that, we should win.
Coach Bryant gave her 1 minute 5 seconds. How much more time did he need to give her? Great straightforward answers that made sense too. She seemed fine with it all.

RTR!!!
A female reporter at Daytona asked Bobby Labonte > Bobby whos gonna win the 500 ? He looks at her for a second and says " I dunno , Thats why we run the damn thing "
What a misleading title. His annoyance had nothing to do with the reporter's gender and everything to do with answering the same stupid questions over and over again.
For sure, he was very tired of answering such questions. However, he was also tired of media people that didn't have a clue about the game. I am sure there was more frustration with that aspect than just the questions. Not much different than Bobby Knight, really.
MikeCallsPizzaPlaces ,I agree, & be that as may, it's because she's a girl & was obviously allow to write her own questions, now we've got dudes that know something about the game writing the scripts for the bimbos.
I tend to agree that this had nothing to do with the reporter being a woman. She was not the first sideline reporter he ate alive. If Bear was mad about what was happening on the field, anyone was fair game. He had little time for any reporter in the middle of a game, especially if Bama was losing.
***** aha, ha , huh, huh, cool! Wait till Bama loses to Michigan State and they fire Saban to replace him with Lane Kiffin, since they can't hire a GOOD coach like, oh, say, Les Miles! hu, hu hah, huh, yeah!...that would be cool, right Beavis?
That is exactly how I feel about women sideline reporters giving opinions, talking strategy, asking coaches and players stupid questions trying to appear knowledgeable, like they played the game. I may not have played professional football, but at least I could have..Here in 2021, they have females with their own sports segments talking strategy about professional football games, giving their opinions on what the coaches should do in the game. I wonder who thought of that for them
drop3rdstrike"We need more Bear Bryant" ? STILL wrong. We need more Bear Bryants. Now, that is correct. And calling me a dick only reveals your own insecurity and immaturity.
I’m here after we lost at Texas A&M first time ever in series history. Both Alabama and Auburn (who should sadly lose in College Station first time too this year) were undefeated in College Station. I want all 12 geographical SEC teams to beat the 2 almost 4 Big 12 Teams
If you think about it, Bryant's response makes sense in its simplicity. Football is not nearly as complicated as the media makes it out to be, and his responses fit that understanding.
These in game conversations with coaches, regardless of sport, college or pro, are so tired. No one cares. The reporter gets nothing of value, it wastes the coaches time, and it just looks stupid.
Another possible response from Bryant: “If you was in the kitchen, as you oughta be, cookin’ up a storm, and I showed up with with a microphone and this here cameraman asking you about which kinda spices and herbs you was plannin’ to mix inta the meal you was fixin’, how’d ya feel about that now?”
Simon: "What about the turnover situation there?" Couch: "2 turnovers cost us 2 touchdowns." Simon: "What are you gonna do in the 2nd half to change that?" Couch: "We're gonna try and stop turnovers this half. And we're gonna try and receive the football and take it for a touchdown." Gotta love it!
Good greif that took me back to my childhood years where the men I looked up to.....and my teenage years worked for......could answer a question with 3-5 words.
I hate when they stop the coach to ask dumb questions. They need to be with their team Last week they were interviewing Will Howard instead of letting him do the OSU alma mater which they do after every game. Sorry but women need to stay off the field.
straight forward...the Bear didn't bother with stupid questions. The only reason any coach does anything is to WIN THE GAME, or at least try to. R.I.P Bear, and ROLL TIDE!!
What stupid questions. This is the answer that she wanted "I took Walter Lewis out of the game because he's black, we really needed to get a white quarterback in there because he is smarter than the black player."
That's certainly how Bryant interpreted it and why he got so defensive. Already had been criticized for supposedly taking too long to integrate the team earlier in his career.
You ARE mistaken. Alabama was one of the last all-white teams in the country. In a 1970 home game their all-white team got trounced by USC, which had a black QB and two outstanding black RBs, and only after that did they start to integrate.
She WAS trying to ambush him with the race card. Just like Mike did here to R.J. This wasn't 1970, this was 1982. All this coach was trying to do was win a football game. Period. To her though, and every other liberal from LBJ on right up until today, every interaction with a non-liberal straight white man is always going to be about race, gender, and orientation, and people like her are going to push for more and more 'integration' until there are no more non-liberal straight white men in any arena of life. Good for Alabama and coach Bryant for standing up to demanding liberals for ever nook and cranny of life to be 'integrated' into oblivion. Integration never has been a two way street though, and no male reporters in women's locker rooms is just one example of that.
It just shows that even back in 1982 these sideline reporters were asking the most stupid questions. Forty years later ... nothing's changed.
At least she asked questions about football.. nowadays, the questions are to start gossip or racial division among players.
And it's asked by girl questions, forced by the democrat party

Coach Bryant should have told her, "Stop fucking yelling in my face lady!"
He taught Saban and Belichik everything they know, about dealing with the media.
yeah, no....
He didn't teach Saban shttt, Bear was dead 20 years before Saban ever set foot in Alabama
@@JStarStar00 plus, Saban loves talking to sideline reporters and looking at the camera every three seconds......so they are pretty different in that regard
What, on how to be an a**hole??
Belichek . Biggest douche in history of NFL along with Brady.
Got to love the “Bear” don’t apologize for trying to win..
At some point every network decided unanimously to exclusively hire a specific demographic of people to report on football from the sidelines who have zero football knowledge.
Not sure if this has anything to do with demographics.
"At some point every network decided unanimously to exclusively hire a specific demographic..." Do you have any evidence to support this? No? Didn't think so. Go back to watching Fox News and believing their little fairy tales.
@@GSewardOnly if you want to avoid the constant lying of CNN and MSDNC.
The Bear was a legendary coach, never tolerated stupid questions and would only try and win the game. What an amazing coach.
how were the questions stupid?
Turnovers...
It was NOT a stupid question --- any reporter would ask why a backup QB was replacing the starter
The Bear reminds me of another Crimson Tide coach😎
@RidgeRunner How? He gave the only answer that he knew at the time.. trying to win the game
Reporter: You're behind by 15 points here at halftime. What are you going to do differently in the 2nd half? Coach: Well, we need to score 16 points and stop them from scoring at all. If we do that, we should win.
😂😂😂
Yep let's of the game score points they ask the dumbest questions
LOL, what coach Bryant is trying to say is "Bitch, shut your mouthy ass up and go get me some coffee"
John Dor UH OH, LOOKS LIKE WE GOT A BAD ASS OVER HERE........Or maybe just an Auburn fan. Who the fuck knows?
I agree why would anyone care about what he has to say anyway ...the fucking guy is pissed and to answer stupid questions is worthless !
Polecat5150 lmfao....u soooo right
And I'm not offended you dip shit. Guess the Mason Dixie IQ formula really works. If they're born below the Mason Dixon, divide IQ by 4.
Randy Dubin - Not only who the fuck knows, but really, who the fuck honestly gives a shit about what Little Johnny's problem(s) might be?
Coach Bryant gave her 1 minute 5 seconds. How much more time did he need to give her? Great straightforward answers that made sense too. She seemed fine with it all.
I love that man! Miss you Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant!!!
& I'd have growled at her too & I'm a woman. The man was trying to get on with his job - coaching! Not standing around chitchatting with Blondie on the sideline & yapping so loudly trying to out-do the Million Dollar Band! Hell, he told her 5 times, at least, the answer to her asinine questions. RTR!!!
After this interview, Ann decided that being a housewife was a better career decision.
Then she keeps asking her husband why he wants her to cook supper expecting a 10 page essay for an answer instead of because he's hungry.
Two of the Greatest ever the Legendary Coach Paul Bear Bryant and the Legendary Keith Jackson.
KJ yes. BB fuck no.
I think you've been sipping on that pint in his coat pocket and smoking a few chesterfields
A female reporter at Daytona asked Bobby Labonte > Bobby whos gonna win the 500 ? He looks at her for a second and says " I dunno , Thats why we run the damn thing "
I'm getting old so maybe I missed something. I did not see in any way shape or form Bear Bryant being disrespectful to that woman!
Bear was very respectful actually and went beyond his patience level with her, the man has a big game ahead of him for crying out loud 🏈
You got that how?
All the coaches need to use this line, especially during halftime, when they’re trying to win the game.
Herm Edwards said that look up you play to win the game
Don't question the strategy of the person with the most overall wins....whether it be Bear, or Eddie Robinson.
"Hi, I'm a dumbassed swamp donkey in a stupid hat who doesn’t understand that I'm not the only one trying to do my job here"
Not everyone wants to answer stupid questions he could have ignored her 😂
What a misleading title.
Can't agree more!!
MikeCallsPizzaPlaces ,I agree, & be that as may, it's because she's a girl & was obviously allow to write her own questions, now we've got dudes that know something about the game writing the scripts for the bimbos.
kyokogodai ,BINGFUCKINGGO bud!
I tend to agree that this had nothing to do with the reporter being a woman. She was not the first sideline reporter he ate alive. If Bear was mad about what was happening on the field, anyone was fair game. He had little time for any reporter in the middle of a game, especially if Bama was losing.
+Bob Kidd "ate alive"? He acted like an asshole, something any lowlife can easily do.

hu, hu hah, huh, yeah!...that would be cool, right Beavis?
+over under sideways down 38-0.
I wonder who thought of that for them
That's hands down one of the most sexist and idiotic statements ever made.
She should worry more about not burning the cake, instead of asking stupid questions
I'm a woman and have watched and loved football for 50 years. I can't stand the women reporters either. It breaks the testosterone flow.
Hahahahahaha....we need more Bear Bryant's!!!
Why the apostrophe?
drop3rdstrike"We need more Bear Bryant" ? STILL wrong.
We need more Bear Bryants. Now, that is correct. And calling me a dick only reveals your own insecurity and immaturity.

i like how she wanted an explanation and he was like "im trying to win the game" That's how a coach should be!
"Lady will you leave me alone so i can get another beer and watch this game?!?"
Pre-game, sideline, post-game, etc are nothing but stupid, cliche questions. They're ruining the game.
Another coach once said Bryant "Could take his team and beat yours, then take your team and beat his.". 😂
Who's here after this happened almost exactly to Saban against Louisville?
I’m here after we lost at Texas A&M first time ever in series history. Both Alabama and Auburn (who should sadly lose in College Station first time too this year) were undefeated in College Station. I want all 12 geographical SEC teams to beat the 2 almost 4 Big 12 Teams
If you think about it, Bryant's response makes sense in its simplicity. Football is not nearly as complicated as the media makes it out to be, and his responses fit that understanding.
It has to be "simple" in the state of Alabama. That way it matches its surroundings.
Life in general is very simplistic. It’s just us humans make things more complicated than it has to be unfortunately.
He wanted to win the game.
Soccer is a much better and complex game frankly lol

A great coaching legend is telling her, "Go fix and have supper ready when I get home."
And look where we are now which is why I watch only college with the mute button.
He should've started Forrest Gump
Instead Forrest was relegated to special teams. An egregious mistake
@mathewrichards2713 Yes. That boy sure was fast.
These sideline reporters are bots that dont even like the game. It’s crazy how many weirdos are involved in such a pure sport
'pure sport' - 😂😂😂
@ a sport is fundamentally a kids game, not a business. But you’re a clown bot sooo keep being that
Pure Sport ??? It’s fixed entertainment dude !!!!!!! 😂😂😂
These in game conversations with coaches, regardless of sport, college or pro, are so tired. No one cares. The reporter gets nothing of value, it wastes the coaches time, and it just looks stupid.
“Actions speak louder than words…” duh he literally says he “trying” to win the game….smh lol
I'm an LSU fan, but damn I miss coaches like this..
A coach "like this" would be fired before the second half began, for being hurtful to the hole.

Another possible response from Bryant:
“If you was in the kitchen, as you oughta be, cookin’ up a storm, and I showed up with with a microphone and this here cameraman asking you about which kinda spices and herbs you was plannin’ to mix inta the meal you was fixin’, how’d ya feel about that now?”
Bryant saw that the reporter was wearing a watch. He should have told her, "There's a clock on the stove....you don't need a watch."
Great to hear the voice of Keith Jackson in the beginning
Simon: "What about the turnover situation there?"
Couch: "2 turnovers cost us 2 touchdowns."
Simon: "What are you gonna do in the 2nd half to change that?"
Couch: "We're gonna try and stop turnovers this half. And we're gonna try and
receive the football and take it for a touchdown."
Gotta love it!
Nothing has changed. The requirements to be an intrepid sideline reporter have little or nothing to do with journalism.
What an assholish way to to respond to questions. And sure enough, the stupid types just love it.
What a pissy little child you are.

I hate when they stop the coach to ask dumb questions. They need to be with their team
Last week they were interviewing Will Howard instead of letting him do the OSU alma mater which they do after every game. Sorry but women need to stay off the field.
I'm pretty sure the NCAA and NFL are currently mandating that coaches agree to the sideline interviews, but most of them would rather not.
Been that way for decades

straight forward...the Bear didn't bother with stupid questions. The only reason any coach does anything is to WIN THE GAME, or at least try to. R.I.P Bear, and ROLL TIDE!!
The "Bear" doing what he does best, whether it is coaching his players or coaching a reporter, whoo-hoo!😉
"I got a game to win and you aint helping win it"
Ugh! Nothing more annoying than a woman reporter/host in football.
We wanted separate sports for a reason, let us be, go away.
If I'm not mistaken Bryant was one of the first if not the first to integrate black and white players. I don't blame him at all for getting defensive.
You ARE mistaken. Alabama was one of the last all-white teams in the country. In a 1970 home game their all-white team got trounced by USC, which had a black QB and two outstanding black RBs, and only after that did they start to integrate.
You are correct Mike, I can admit when I'm wrong.
Before coaching was a political position. Love the old gaurd.
