  • We go inside the training it takes to be part of a Trident submarine crew, the first line of defense against threats from the West. KING 5's Greg Copeland is here with a look at one of the ways the U.S. keeps the pressure on.

I served as a Sonar Tech aboard the USS Henry M. Jackson SSBN 730 (The only Trident not named after a state) in the mid 80's. The Trident Training Facilities have underwent a HUGE upgrade from when I was there... There were few simulators at TTF back then, and most of the sims that aren't rate-specific were taught to us at Sub School in New London Connecticut

I was actually on this sub in Washington. I went with several people from across the state of Michigan and it was absolutely amazing!

do the subs use DEW weapons or other link-type weapons to satellites and microwaves? did you work for the navy or Lockheed?

The Mk48 ADCAP torpedo is wire guided, and if needed, can be controlled from the weapons station in the control room.

Trident a palace as compared with the much smaller fast attack submarine (carries non-nuclear Tomahawk cruise missiles.)
