It's hard enough to go from middle school to high school, even harder when you are going to a brand new school, but imagine doing all of that AND being deaf - the only deaf student in the school. That's what Jocelyn was going through when she entered 9th grade - alone in a big new school, without a friend, and feeling so out of place being a deaf person in a hearing world.
Her choclear implants ASL helped her to hear, just a bit, but they also looked strange to the other kids. She didn't know anyone, had no friends there, and nobody seemed to care about her, or noticed that she was all alone. In fact, because she was deaf, the other kids ignored her, or looked at her strangely and whispered to each other. This all made her feel even more alone, more different. She felt so isolated. Her deafness seemed to be holding her back and and stopped students from getting close to her in a way she should be just like any other kid.
Then, one day in poetry class, a boy sitting in front of her passed her a note. She had never gotten a note before. He asked her is she wanted a friend. She could hardly believe it, hardly trust it - but there he was, asking, sincere.
She said yes and, eventually, they became best friends! He spoke to her as if she wasn't deaf, and that made her so happy. He made her feel like she belonged. He treated her just like any other hearing person. And they did what any other friends would do, went to the Mall, to Starbucks, and the library to study and draw. He began to experience a day though a deaf person's eyes.
Now they are always hanging out together. And he taught Jocelyn the true meaning of friendship, which was the greatest gift she had ever received. It changed her, brought her back to life, and for that, Jocelyn will always be thankful and grateful.

Disabled people don't deserve the way some people treat them. I once saw a disabled person crying In a bathroom stall, i asked if they were okay but they said there weren't.
"No no no no.. I'm not okay, people are making fun of me." She told me "No one wants to be my friend.
"Well I could be your friend" I replied
We ended up having fun, she didn't act like a disabled person. No, I shouldn't call her disabled. She's a human. Just like you and I.

SupposeItsAmy My brother is disabled. He has autism, from what I can tell his life is hard. But when we hang out I feel like he's not disabled. Sure he's ten and plays with baby toys but my life is so much better with him in it. :)

I just want to be certain of what you are trying to convey with the brilliant invention that is the written word. Do you think that it is amazing that she is able to communicate verbally with others, or that she is able to communicate at all? One can talk in any language, including any sign language. I looked up "talk", all it means is to speak to communicate thoughts or ideas. I also looked up "speak", and saw nothing that would define talking as something that could only be done using sound. But anyways, I just wished to know which of the two you meant. I won't be bothering you again, I am just curious about what was meant.

Dip Talukdar actually i appreciate the captions. Cuz most probably deaf/hard-of-hearing ppl watch this video and we do need subtitles cuz we cant hear properly. Im deaf or hard-of-hearing and i really appreciate ppl who put subtitles in their videos especially english speaking videos.

Omg this was so touching. I have a twin who is deaf. Its been so hard for him growing up because in primary school he only had a few friwnds but when they moved school he had no one. He always yoused to sit somewere by himself and it yoused to make me cry. Me and all my friends would ask him to come and talk and play with us but he would just say no. I was so worried about him. Somedays he would come home and cry for hours. It was heartbreaking. He yoused to say how he wants to be able to talk properly and wants to be able to read properly and wants to end things. It was horrible. Until... in year 6 he moved school. The school was a school which could help deaf children learn sign and give them the support they needed. The school was also a normal school so any child could join. he made so many new friend in just a few days and he loved it there. Then when he moved to high school he made even more friends. It made my family happy but most importantly him happy. He still finds things hard and says now and then about how he hates being deaf, but he is getting through it. I live my twin brother and will never stop loving him ♥️

I had a smile on my face the whole time. She seems so nice and I just want to give her a hug. If you're deaf and you see this, just know that some people might not be nice because you're not like them, but I want you to know that it'll get better. There's that one friend out there that can change your world. I suffered with anxiety for a little bit, but my best friends Mary and Peyton helped me get through it all. (I don't have anxiety anymore if you were wondering!)
I'm deaf and everyone treat me normal like hearing people. The world does have deaf schools. Almost everyone in my school support me. Because it's a deaf school. I'm so glad to being deaf and in deaf school

Deaf people can't really control the volume and pitch of their voice because they can't hear what they say. People born deaf can't speak at all.

This EXCALTY happened to me. I'm deaf and I have Cochlear implants. I still can remember how the other people bullied me. I was very sad, but I founded a friend who don't care if I'm different. I was lonely before but now everything is perfect. :)
