I love how respectful you guys are towards different cultures and religions. One of the reasons muslims can not drink water during Ramadan is because drinking water while fasting actually dilutes the minerals and vitamins from our bodies. Minerals are important for your body to stay healthy. Your body uses minerals for many different jobs, including keeping your bones, muscles, heart, and brain working properly. They are needed to make enzymes and hormones.

Can I say as a muslim, it is totally not disrespectful towards our religion to eat and drink as you please whilst we are fasting. Even for muslims it is encouraged/not allowed to fast in certain conditions (for example when travelling, when there is a medical condition etc). It is truly something between God and the believer. Although I totally find it beautiful when people like you and others are trying to be very mindful and respectful!
hi guys, not sure. I just got back from Dubai (19 April) and we were eating and drinking anywhere during the fasting hours. A few years ago it was like you say, you couldn't eat/drink in public but it has defo changed this year. I was drinking water in public around JBR and Malls, even grabbing a wrap and eating whilst walking in public.....all during he fasting hours. In the malls the food outlets would be previously partitioned off so eating was private or curtains on restaurant windows, but that was not present this year.....

Let's be honest, if tourists had to abide 100% by Islam like locals do, then Dubai would be empty.
