You left off the greatest Royal/Olympic crossover moment of all time -- Queen Elizabeth parachuting into the opening ceremonies of the London Olympic games. It was hilarious! Almost as good as tea time with Paddington Bear.
Marie Antoinette being symbolized at the Paris games is now even more interesting, considering the games were almost revitalized but it was halted for the revolution. Knowing and understanding history adds so much context.
@@bethanymargason8383 for me I loved London in 2012 and I was 16 in 96 but I've got a moving memory with Mohamed Ali..... My dad felt in tears when he saw him.... So emotional moment for him
I prefer the 2012 London opener. Pandemonium was excellent, watching James Bond escort the Queen, the idea of the whole lighting ceremony, just amazing!
I was going to say you left off George VI, father of Queen Elizabeth II. However, George played tennis in 1926 at Wimbledon, and he opened the 1948 London Olympics but didn't compete in them. When you go to the Wimbledon museum, he is mentioned.
A little correction on Prince Albert of Monaco. The story goes that he met swimmer Charlene Wittstock at a swim competition in Monaco in 2000, but it was brief. He then had an illegitimate son with an Air France flight attendant from Togo in 2003. When Prince Albert's father died in 2005 and he came to the throne, Charlene contacted Albert again to send her condolences and they started dating. In the 2006 Olympics in Torino, Italy, she went as his date, which is the photo you showed of them in winter clothes watching the games and smiling. She never made it to any more Olympics as an athlete but did become Albert's girlfriend, undergoing lots of dental work and plastic surgery, and getting married in 2011. Their twins were born in 2014 and they all attended the opening ceremony in Paris 2024. Albert has a large collection of all the Olympic flame holders for the past few decades, and he puts them on free exhibition in Monaco or the host city at each Olympic games. He & Charlene were two of the many flame carriers when the flame passed through Monaco earlier this month.

Nathalie zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg is tecnically not princess of Denmark but of Berleburg. Her father was prince of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg. That is where she gets her title from even though her mother is princess of Denmark. Titles are not inherieted through the female line.
23:34 Um, I don't think Haya's son was the one convicted considering he wasn't born until 2012 lol. It would've been her husband's son from his first marriage. Also, Nathalie isn't a Danish princess, she's a Princess of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleberg.

You should be proud of your opening ceremony. There were a few things I disliked, but mostly it was the best opening ceremony I have ever watched. So many firsts that to me were incredible. The athletes arriving in boats, the cauldron being lit in a balloon, the Eiffel Tower light show, the mechanical horse riding on the water and then the beautiful white horse continuing on land and so many more. The highlight for me was Celine Dion. She was magnificent! I am also a very proud Canadian. Job well done France!

Summer and Winter Olympics royalty took part in four years. No wonder the Olympic games halted in B.C. cause the emperor thought the Olympic games were cruel to the scarification of humans until the rebirth of the Olympics took place in Greece in 1896.
Who is the guy second from the left, with the cool sunglasses at 11:22 ? Are there any better pics of him rocking the sunglasses? Where can I get me a pair?
It's Duke Georg Alexander of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, whose mother was a granddaughter of Tsar Paul. He and his brother who is just next to him, also wearing glasses, often spent time in Russia, so the photo is of them with their Romanov relatives. If you google him, you can see photos of him but he's not wearing sunglasses, they're just regular glasses, or more specifically, a Pince-nez.
Correction: Adegboyega Folaranmi Adedoyin is the second son of the Akarigbo of Ijebu Remo one of the tribes in the Yoruba ethnic group. Calling him Omoba of Yoruba just means prince of Yoruba which doesn't mean anything
It’s almost like money gives one the ability to pursue excellence by being free to devote most of their life to an impractical activity. Simone Biles was adopted out of a bad situation that would have never afforded her the opportunity to dominate - black women have been socioeconomically been shut out of expensive things like gymnastics and ballet and the first few generations to compete are of course crushing it. Lots of people would break records if money were no object. Things like running, which require no special equipment nor fancy trainers are the most egalitarian representation of excellence. You learned really fast how poor you are when you meet the university swim team that had pools on their high-school campus. Lacross? Field hockey? Dressage/equestrian? It’s already too late to get good at the things you just learned about - from being born in the wrong zipcode.
