  • Doc Watson was an American guitarist, songwriter, and singer of bluegrass, folk, country, blues, and gospel music. Watson won seven Grammy awards as well as a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. Watson's flatpicking skills and knowledge of traditional American music are highly regarded. Watson taught himself to play fiddle tunes on his Les Paul electric guitar. He later transferred the technique to acoustic guitar, and playing fiddle tunes became part of his signature sound.
He performed with his son, guitarist Merle Watson, for over 15 years until Merle's death in 1985 in an accident on the family farm.
Directed by Terry Allen Williams, Produced by Thomas Lofstrom
This series features progressive bluegrass and country music performed at the Telluride Festivals, and is available on DVD from TheFestivalTapes@gmail.com

He was blinded shortly after birth, lost his son but he kept on going. Love his blues.

I heard an interview with Cliff Miller, President of SE sound systems and the longtime friend of Doc on Merlefest Radio on WNCW 88.7 FM. Cliff related how that Doc had such a refined sense of hearing/music that he could tell the Sound Man exactly what was causing the feedback. The Sound Man here obviously did not get it.....lol.
