Doc Watson. What fantastic, original flatpicking. Doc is the wellspring for a fabulous style of guitar playing that continues to amaze and put folks swinging on that old wood dance floor. And Doc's voice, my Lord. I had the great fortune to catch Doc and Merle at the Paramount Theater in Seattle many years ago. Tore the place up. David Grisman opened with Tony Rice on guitar and Vassar Clements on fiddle. Great show. Acres of talent. I met Mark O'Conner at the Folk Life Festival in Seattle. Mark was playing fiddle and flat pick guitar. He was truly fantastic and had a big crowd. Lots of money went into his hat. We talked and I said he had a fantastic future ahead. Mark was 13. He grew up just north of Seattle. American treasures these musicians. We are all so lucky to hear them all. RIP Doc, Merle, Tony and Vassar.
Mark oconnor is so talented total prodigy. Not only one of the meanest fiddler's But he also happened to win the telluride flat picking competition when he was about 15 as I understand it also I am fairly certain he was also a big shot winning skateboard competitions as well
Recognized Mark O’Connor’s playing posture from when he was quite young. He layer that left arm down on his leg and raised it up when necessary for high licks. No white autographed fiddle in this recording, though.
What is the very first little jam they play ? I’ve heard it done before but can’t remember the name and it’s killing me lol i love this tho thanks for the upload!
such a tragedy losing Merle so young...
His accident couldn't have been too long after this concert.
Doc certainly earned the right to sing the blues.
How can you not enjoy this music???!?
Instant smile 😊

I'm very happy to contribute to your collection, Grayson; and, extra happy that it includes his son Merle.

His presence reminds me of Chuck levell in rock and roll, you know whatever he is in will be interesting
And David Bromberg! Blast from the past.
As good as the king singing please love me
Doc was so crushed when son Merle died. No father should endure that. (I did too).
I’m sorry for your loss
