As I told a UK rock fisherman, concerning our surf plug arsenal, the thick darter profile selects both for bigger fish and I personally have never had a small fish take one tail first, where as rats will swallow SP minnows and gill hook themselves frequently. This would suggest that the calculus in the bass' head when attacking the darter is to not choke on it by grabbing the wrong end. Point being, upgrade the profile=diameter of the plug before or along with the length. Gullet diameter is Pi to a non-chopping fish like a striper.

I live in keyport NJ and i haven't gone striper fishing since last year. But im trying to catch striper or anything fun off the surf by me. What kind of winds and conditions should i look for?? Any tips for us Jersey shore anglers in the Bay side ?? Thanks and God Bless

This report is lets go brandon. I fished robert moses for past three days there are no stripers. I was not alone they were skunked as well. Not sure whats going on this year the fish still arent here.
Spent 6 hours there two weeks ago and it was the same. Last week at Jones I saw 3 bass but there were at least 20 anglers.
I fished there as well and Atlantic to the west lost one small bass nothing in a week report is fake news

I know my area, but a bicycle with waders and plug bag over long distances is one thing. I KNOW there are big girls in the surf here, but locking the bike to the boardwalk in THAT neighborhood is not smart. So I tell people where to drive to. I am usually right. I should lock up a few miles uptown in Whitelandia and walk down. I am notoriously lazy, globally so.
This year has been terrible. The fall run never happened.
So its not just me. Unless u have a boat there are no fish in the surf.

Ive been to montauk fish literally at my feet. Two weeks ago. Shouldnt have to drive two hrs for schoolies. Weird year. Yet i keep seeing these reports of giant fish along south beaches. So yes i agree

I of course missed it by not wanting to be around people, but Jamaica Bay had a crazy bite from the beach near me last Friday and Saturday. Outside is where I will be going after the weather. This is the week or two on the furthest west end usually, should be some big bunker on the beach. I confirmed some big girls in the rip last two nights. Knowing without being able to go sucks. Driving is a luxury nobody who drives ever calculates.
