I can see this was published in 2014... but I still see comments about the fixing bolts and lock washers.
If you haven't noticed, the current bolts have 'teeth' underneath the bolt head.
These work with the upturned fingers on the 3 lock washers.
Those fingers and the teeth on the bolts help to keep the bolt from unscrewing.
So... while you may get away with not using the lock washers... it's not spec and won't be under warranty if you don't use them.
    .
Just thought I'd pass that along... :)

@@LoveMTB It had a Hope 160 mm on the rear previously but my local bike shop said the warp in it couldn't be fixed, so I've switched it out for this. Doing some maintainance at the moment for the first time as I'm still learning and off the bike for a few more weeks following a greater tuberosity fracture. The videos are much appreciated, cheers!

You can get away using metal pads in the city and for slow rides. Deore and lower has resin calipers which can melt if the pads become too hot.

Don't know if important but Shimano say to put gloves on and when tightening then to put rotational pressure.
Guess readies for the coming forces?

    • @Digga_10

@@LoveMTB Thought gloves might be to keep my greasy hands off the rotors ;-) , yeah next time I might preload and rotate, too late this time, I sure with 6 bolts will not move much @ 4nm. Great Video as so Helpful when doing something different the first time.

New bolts have teeth which lock with the washers. And as for the "Loctite": You're supposed to remove it when you recycle a bolt (use a nylon or brass brush or the like), and apply a fresh coat.

I feel really stupid to ask this question... I also have the Avid g2 clean sweep rotor and my brake is a Avid BB7 mtn. Would this rotor work with my brake? If that's the case... Is the new rotor more stiff/rigid that the clean sweep?

    • @unogazzy84

  • @ianwolf4789

They work on recent Shimano M8000, not on older makes and model -- the inner spider is too large. You lose 3/8" to 1/4" of brake surface when adjusting the calipers on traditional Avid and Hayes brakes, making the brake useless. Your video did not put the wheel on the bike!

@@Assimilator702 I take off the rotors when wash the bike, when lube the bike, when inspect and grease the hubs, etc. If you have 6 bolts is a PITA, and when you have damaged the bolt head it is more pita then. Since using center lock I have never had a problem with it. Everything is faster, easier and simpler.
