  • What's up CNC woodworkers?!! This is my french bulldog bowl with copper epoxy drips on the top of it. My goal with this video (and my channel) is to inspire, educate and entertain. I previously did a detailed tutorial on the step-by-step process of how I design these bowls and make them; check out the link below if you want to know the complete steps on what I'm doing.
I made this bowl back in May of 2020. My friend John ordered one of my heart bowls from my website, and I offered to make him something custom for his wedding anniversary with Jacquie. I knew that they really liked bull dogs, so I decided to do a bowl based on that concept. The basic shape was designed in Fusion 360 using lofting. The epoxy drip design is the same process that I outline in my "CNC Woodworking Bowl" tutorial below. The piece was made out of hard maple with copper mica powder tinted deep pour epoxy epoxy. The bowl is finished with Osmo Top Oil, which is food safe and provides a slight sheen to the project.

A lot of my process has developed over time. Some of it started from basic woodworking techniques and then expanded into CNC woodworking and epoxy river table style projects. This eventually led me to experimenting with custom shaped bowls that would otherwise be difficult to create by hand using a bandsaw, jigsaw or scroll saw. I use two sided machining techniques; it is key to have some way to properly align the machine for the 2nd operation on the backside; I do an inset cut to do this and document it in my series mentioned above.
Note: I used KSResin's Deep Pour Epoxy in this project, but I generally prefer WiseBond. WiseBond cures harder than KSResin; I have found that my pieces with KSResin will tend to be more flexible after it has fully cured (30+ days). KSResin also has a tendency to to shrink, which isn't a big deal for a project like this but has to be taken into consideration. KSResin's advantage is that it sets up a lot quicker, allowing me create swirls in the epoxy with mica powder. However, both epoxies require about 3 days before de-molding or machining, so it doesn't really save me any time.
    Thanks everyone!

I originally made two of these bowls out of maple. One was copper tinted and the other was blue. Unfortunately, the blue one got sucked up into the CNC machine and tossed out the side...destroying it. So, there is only one in existence (for now!)
