    Tariffs will increase costs of finished goods and components used throughout US manufacturing. This will be an immediate and huge hike in inflation. To fight inflation the Fed will have to hike interest rates which will be wonderful for the billionaires but possibly take away the middle class. Inflation is so high that consumers are literally taking debt for basic life necessities. Collapse has indeed begun..

      A collapse has began!!! Rich people know this.... they are hedging... through hedge funds. It costs them about 6% a year to do this. Those that aren't rich are not hedge and are at great risk in the bubble of all bubbles with the debt at all time highs. The increasing prices have impacted my plan to retire at 62, The stock market's volatility, coupled with a reduced income, is making me anxious about having enough for retirement.

The EU have great regulations. Being part of them means an alliance - not losing who we are! It might be the BEST idea. Greenland is part of the EU - they are our neighbor, so it’s not a bad idea. The unity of Canada? Are you talking about the unity that no longer exists because Trudeau and his corrupt government have done everything they can to destroy it? I don’t consider Alberta part of Canada anymore and there’s little to be proud of in being Canadian. Drinking beer, watching hockey, legalization of marijuana while allowing millions to flood into this country so taxpayers can house them, feed them and pay for their medical expenses. Are the many homeless encampments something to be proud of, how about the drug addiction the government encourages with free drugs? Maybe we should be proud of the high cost of living and the most expensive real estate in the world? Can we be proud of our ever increasing tax burden and national debt? I’d would have been disappointed if Smith hadn’t gone to talk to Trump since there’s no one at the federal level that is capable of doing it and no one on the federal level that cares about Alberta. Trudeau would love 25% tariffs on Alberta oil going into the US if it helped shutdown the oil and gas industry in Alberta and keep the oil in the ground. Smith did the right thing by going to talk to Trump on her own instead of letting some incompetent liberal throw Alberta under the bus to gain something for Ontario and Quebec. When Biden shut down the Keystone pipeline project where was Trudeau and what did he do or say to try and get Biden to change his mind? Where was the unity then?

      @judasiscariot7049 13 днів тому

      Bud there's not going to be any 2% export tariff on CDN oil. Dani's sold us out! Even Albertans are pi$$ed; it's only a minority oil and gas lobby that's looking to appease Donald. But yes, all exports of minerals to US should be halted. They can't mine, and even if they do, it'll take them years to get the resource from the ground. The US armed forces need antimony to make night vision goggles and China's stopped supply of it to the US. They'd now need to get it from Canada. If Donald pushes it, we need to punch him in the face and critical minerals are the way to do that, among other things. Have you stopped buying American yet? I'm thinking I'm going to drop Albertan suppliers for any projects that I'd work on. I'm specifically targeting AB because their Premier couldn't care less about the rest of the nation. Well fair enough, stop buying from AB and soon their own people will turn on her! I chose AB suppliers when I could have bought from ON. Dani's really ticked me off by going to Mar-a-Lago and kissing the ring and not showing a united front. AB needs to pay!

The wake up call from 2016-2020 when all of this happened before with steel and aluminum. Wanting sweeping change a week before tariffs are imposed doesn't work either. That's the advantage Trump has under section 232 and he can be as petulant as wants, without oversight under the guise of national security. It will be mutually assured destruction but America holds the nuclear football.

    For Canada I think an export tax on oil, gas and electricity is the way to go. America is not in the position to immediately close the pipelines or power grid to Canadian exports. Gas prices consumers pay at the pump would immediately jump as would heating bills. 1979 energy spike would return to America. There isn't a politician alive who would not feel the heat from industry paying 30% more for electricity or drivers paying a buck or even 2 bucks more per gallon. Than the huge increase in that winter heating bill. WTI oil price has already spiked $10 a barrel recently some I'm sure is due to Trumps ideas. If the cost of Canadian oil goes up $25 a barrel and Canada disperses that revenue to Canadian consumers I think WTI $90 by May. The rub is, I think Canada should not just accept that 25% duty removal as enough, Trump will be on his back heals and Canada will want more and likely get more. America can't shut down 26% of it refining capacity, they can't buy heavy oil from Venezuela, they have a trade embargo there. Lines at every gas station within a fortnight.

    The big reason there is a trade deficit now is oil. Canadian oil is cheap for the US to buy. The US refineries need heavy oil and they don't have much so they get it from Canada. Take out oil and the US has a surplus balance of trade with Canada. Canada needs to build the Gateway oil pipeline to increase oil exports to other countries. The New Shell LNG facility will be completed in 2025. Japan would be a perfect customer for Canadian natural gas.

    All these talking heads are just ignoring the obvious. Trump wants auto manufacturers back in Michigan. Full stop. Why should Canada manufacture cars to USA when their head offices are in USA?

    • @keithosmond5730
      @keithosmond5730 13 днів тому

      Because they sell a *lot* of vehicles here. The agreement has always been that building them here gave them duty-free access to our market, while people building elsewhere were charged an import duty. That's why Toyota and Honda opened plants in Canada, for example.
      But hey, if that's how Trump wants to play, then we freeze out any US-made vehicles... and drop the barriers for, say, vehicles from China.

      Canadian and American auto industries have been integrated since the 1965 Auto Pact. Since then the general rule is that the US imports as many cars from Canada as they sell in Canada. This deal has worked well for both countries for 60 years.

      @geraldbrowne Don the con wants far more than cars manufactured in the US. China quit selling them rare minerals, so the con needs to annex Canada and Panama, so he has access to our rare minerals. He also talks about the water tap in Canada. In Alberta, we’ve been on water rations for watering our lawns for years. Once the glaciers are gone, there is no water, and yet Arizona, Nevada and Californians all have swimming pools. They need to quit wasting water, just like Calgary did last summer. Then I might feel sorry for them, but Americans are gluttons. It’s always America first. They take advantage of everyone!

      Because Canadians are more tech savvy and better educated. If you look at what is manufactured where, you would the the delicate and complicated parts are made in Canada. Simple stuff that needs to be made in bulk is in Mexico, and the other stuff is in the US.

      @@Dstinct Europe may be the answer for canadian auto. Europe is trying to get away from Chinese ev's. Ontario is pouring a huge amount of money into battery production. Ontario is one of the few jurisdictions with the entire supply chain from mining to recycling . They also have the CEDA free trade deal with the EU.

    Has anyone else noticed the media only talks about tariffs but they don't talk about the securing the border which is the reason behind the tariffs.

    • @keithosmond5730
      @keithosmond5730 13 днів тому +7

      That's Trump's *excuse* - not the *reason.* By claiming it has to so with "national security" he can use an executive order and bypass restrictions that might otherwise slow or stop implementation.
      It's what he did last time over aluminum and steel.
      (And BTW, if you bothered paying attention, there actually *has* been a lot of effort made on the border security issue - not that Trump will care.)

    I am canceling 2 subscriptions to financial services on january 21 if tariffs and instead going with Canadian services, cause i'm pissed now. The 2 subscriptions are worth $400 usd $575 Canadian, being that I live in northern BC I use Amazon a lot, tariffs would really encourage Canadian e-commerce in Canada to put a 25 % tariff on Amazon. I have made tools purchases for my business from a company in Ontario called Atlas tools in the past and been very happy with their service and prices and I don't care so much if they are sourcing from America because they are Canadian I am dealing with a Canadian company might have to do, but hopefully they source out Canadian suppliers to supply me.
