This is just jaw dropping to witness. Some have taken their gifts and taken to unheard of levels. Monster players, incredible technique and most importantly, GROOVE!
Dennis Chambers.... what a FREAKING MONSTER!!!! It is amazing to me how fast his hands and feet are yet, he plays so cleanly. You go Man!!!! Keep inspiring drummers that appreciate this kind of music such as myself.
How the hell Scofield can think ahead to play those riffs is way beyond my scope of understanding or capability to play like that. I guess that is why I admire players like him. Dennis Chambers is a force on drums too.
I saw these guys play together in the 80s. I can’t remember the exact date but it probably would have been around the time that this was recorded. I was completely blown away as you can imagine 🤯😊
As a guitarist I've been greatly influenced by Scofields playing (even though I barely understand half of it, lols). As a musician perhaps the greatest thing I have to thank him for is introducing me me to my now favorite drummer. Thanks John. ^-^
@@austinmonroe3894 : I can't think of even one really good drummer I know (and I've known a lot of them) that didn't cite Cobham as one of their influences. Also Colaiuta, Gadd, and Weckl. Pretty much all of the good drummers I've known cited Peart, Moon, and Mitchell. But all of the really good ones I've known also cite the previous five fusion drummers too. Also, convos that span 3 years.
Loud Jazz is my fav album and when he was in NL, Canada on July 11th, 2013 I was his driver and I asked how he named his albums. He chuckled that his family names most of them and I asked about Loud Jazz. He said, "My daughter said, 'It's Loud Jazz, Daddy..' so it stuck." Cool story, and it's all mine ;) Thanks to John (and the Uberjamband) for a great show...
After seeing DC with Stern just the other night, I had to check out these videos. I do believe DC has come back from his recent health issues even more possessed than he is on these cuts. What a great band this was!!!
I have yet to see any other drummer with better limb independence (being able to play something in one timing while playing another timing with a completely other set of limbs) than Dennis Chambers
Yes, there's some amazing "zen-like" stuff going on there. It's almost like he puts his feet on "auto-pilot", but can switch it on and off with his mind. He clearly hears what the combination of all the drum hits sound like, because he makes adjustments to them in real-time :-)
So, if we had to break don the "Baddest: drummer, it would have to be him. They always gear toward rock drummers, but this guy does all genres, all styles, plays with the best of the best, so I have to say he's the GOAT, as far as definition of the "Baddest".
Go to 2:10 and you'll see that his hi-hat pedal and left pedal for the double bass pedal, are so close together that he can play both with one foot :-) He is master at displacement, so he can do a left-right-right or right-right-left so evenly...you don't even notice he switched the pattern.

Denis is "a groove machine "! Here ! I love this period ...
I miss 80's fusion...
They make it in Japan.
Nice Sound Drums ... ... ...
1:12 How Chambers seamlessly switches here from an accented double-stroke roll to a single-stroke roll across the toms is just ferocious!

Killin!!!
Dennis Chambers made the twinpedal cool.
Educate me , what is a twin pedal? I know what a double pedal is. This is not that. Great album tho.
Dennis is a god

He did so this past weekend! He played two sets w them @ the appel room in NYC
Those hits in "Make Me" and that minimal groove with Dennis leaving out all the hi hats...
MONSTER MUSICIAN....EVERYONE...😱

Check out Greg Howe he's played with Dennis Chambers and he's a awesome guitarist.
Cobham!
@@MultiRedman30 : I remember Greg Howe from the early Shrapnel days. Great player for sure. I was even teaching others how to "shred" (

Old comments, but there is A LOT of drummers that are able to play with a VERY HIGH level of independence.
Don't forget Chris Colman 😉
Phil Collins with Brand X
GOD DAMN...
Brother doing it! Mellow

Scofield's playing is pure Liquid Fire. Rhythm section amazing.
I only registrated on UA-cam to post that 5:30 is the coolest move I´ve ever seen!
muito bom Dennis Chambers lenda sou fã!
My God😊
Everyone that knows Nothing about drummers says John Bonham, Neil Peart etc… They know nothing about!! As a drummer…. Goat is Dennis Chambers!!!
Agreed my friend!!
Fantastic musicians
Just noticed dennis playing hi hat w his foot.....along with the double bass, what the shit?
I did sound for Chambers many years ago. He didn't use a double pedal, he didn't need one.
@@davenatale850 a drum teacher I use to have got me to learn single footed double bass, because of songs like bernard

Okay I bow down to Chambers!!!
NIce tight number and tight quartet. Love the drummer.
Just Smokin' and skin-tight..

Exactly.
Not Schofield but Scofield. More fans will find this better once his name is changed.
Schoefield sounds german
How did he manage to get the whole band to do a drum video? They must have had some cash.
