  • Water softener full of water? Need a water softener fix for a brine tank that won’t drain? water softener not draining? The problem might be the Venturi valve!
    If your water softener brine tank is full of water all of the time, you could have a malfunctioning venturi valve. The most common issue with water softener venturi valves is that they get dirty and need to be cleaned. If your water softener venturi valve is clean then its likely to have a worn out gasket. water softener venturi valve gaskets need to be replaced every couple of years. in the video you can see how much wear my gasket has on it. My water softener is a whirlpool WHES33 LE33.

    If that doesn’t solve your water in the tank problems there’s also a plunger in the head valve unit that has a oring/spring that wears out over time causing the brine wash cycle not to function properly letting water back into the brine tank instead of washing the resin tank. Took me awhile to figure it out but once I replaced that my softener worked properly. Hope this helps someone.

      @@theboywholovesfreedomthe part that cycles the water softener is the unit that sits on top of the tank it’s directly under the black motor that turns the valve, you’ll have to remove that and there will be a few screws you’ll have access to after you remove the motor, after you remove those screws lift it up and the plunger and spring as well as the other o rings will be inside , make sure the water is shut off to the water softener before hand , take pictures along the way so you can just reverse the process after your done,look up your model they should have the replacement parts for your unit there is also a few orings in the head as well, it’s better to just replace them all at once. Just be carefuI when torquing down the screws as to not strip the head but make sure it’s tight enough as not to leak ,hope this helps

      Our problem is that salty water is getting in the house water and the water is salty everywhere in the house now. What could cause the problem?? We also have a lot of water in the brine tank. 😵‍💫

    • @MMountain82
      @MMountain82 7 місяців тому +1

      @@eileenjared I imagine it has to do with one of the o rings or seals in the valve head unit as that controls all the cycles of the unit, if those seals and rings are faulty that could let the brine water into the water that goes into the house. Your model should have replacement parts for the valve unit , hope this helps .

      These Venturi valves collect small pieces of debris as well as wearing out the gaskets. I clean mine out spring and fall now (6months), change the gasket and run a bottle of water softener cleaner as part of my maintenance schedule.

    Alright!! A very useful video for my similar Whirlpool water softener, Fred! Thank you so much! Being the cautious DYI-er, while awaiting the replacement gasket to be delivered, I performed a "dry run", just to make sure I wasn't caught by surprise by anything when the actual replacement sequence were to take place. It really adds confidence to the actual process.
    One suggestion: Since mine wasn't dried out or frayed, I didn't know what defined a "worn out" gasket until I saw a side-by-side photo online. Those imprinted "channels" made from the plastic venturi is another tell-tale sign of a worn-out gasket. The whole swap took me just 10 minutes.

    I have the same symptoms as you, a full brine tank, but I think I may have a different problem.
    Before you replaced the gasket, did you first TEST to see if the water emptied in the brine tank when you forced recharge cycle?? If the water emptied, it's my guess that your gasket was fine. (If it is still able to empty the water on recharge, then the problem isn't the gasket) If it's like my case, the water is accumulating over days. The problem comes from a "slow/leak filling" from somewhere, NOT from water being left behind because of faulty gasket and inability to syphon water out of brine tank.

      @tjam4229 2 роки тому +2

      @@96CapriceSS , I ended up finding a crack in the upper part of the plastic valve assembly cover that was very hard to see while in the garage cabinet. After looking closely, I can see drips of water leaking from the cracked housing.
      So I ordered a replacement along with rubber gaskets. Then…while waiting for those parts, the buttons on the digital display seemed to stop working. So I think I’m just going to return the parts and buy a new water softener. It would be about $350 to fix…and that’s only if something else isn’t discovered to be faulty while doing the repair.

      @MrFredsDIY  8 місяців тому +1

      A sticky float valve could certainly cause a similar issue. Many times the inside of the Venturi valve gets small pieces of debris stuck in the channels, that along with a worn out gasket is more often the cause of water not leaving the brine tank on recharge cycle. A toothbrush with Dawn soap and a new gasket seems to fix the issue most of the time. I picked up my gaskets on Amazon. There are links in the video description. Thanks for watching!

    I did this repair about 13 month back and again the water is filling back up again. I took the Venturi back apart and inspected the gasket. What is it that goes bad with the gasket? All I see is the imprint of the corresponding component, but nothing ripped or deformed. Is it just the compression on the gasket material that is the problem?

    • @MrFredsDIY
      @MrFredsDIY  5 місяців тому +1

      There is pretty high-pressure that goes through this valve and the water creates a ware pattern on the gasket. Also, the opening through the channels is pretty small which along with the shape, creates the draw effect to pull the water out of the tank. Every time I change this gasket, I do notice small debris that I clean with Dawn dish soap and a brush. I think it’s a combination of these factors that creates this maintenance issue.

      The first thing I would check is the bypass valve attached to the manifold to be sure the plunger has not been pushed. I would force a recharge cycle, and witness what happens. Listen to hear if the motorized control valve is operating. Remove the lid from the float valve assembly tube and look for water filling the brine tank through that float valve. If no water is entering the brine tank then that is the problem and now you need to find the cause cause.
      I would manipulate the float valve during the recharge cycle to see if the valve is “stuck”. This valve is similar to the float valve inside the tank of your toilet. If water is not filling the tank from the float valve, that means it’s not receiving water or it could have debris in the float valve or Venturi valve.
      There should be instructions on the lid, online or in your owners manual for cleaning the Venturi valve and changing the gasket. I use dawn dish soap and small brushes or an old toothbrush.
      If you are not cleaning the Venturi valve once a year I am fairly certain it has debris inside and your gasket is probably worn out.
      Good luck!

    Imagine the people that had the water softeners installed in the closet for the closet. I am currently dealing with my water softener, leaking out all over my garage, flooding it with particles of suit and sand everywhere.

    So you're saying it can drain itself? I don't have to take a vacuum to suck the water and salt out?

      After I corrected the problem with the Venturi valve I ran a recharge cycle and it drained at the end. The float in the float assembly tube had the valve closed because the tank was full so that part of the charge cycle (the filling of water) didn’t occur. Once the Venturi valve started working properly my unit was able to use the brine water to recharge and flush the water from the tank.

    How can you tell the gasket worn out?

      If it’s over a year old and shows a pattern on it like mine chances are it needs replaced. These gaskets are a consumable product like brake pads and need to beverage. Thanks for watching!

    Don’t some water softeners have the water always in it until it draws it in? I think mine does.

      Great question! There are two main types of water softeners, post-fill & pre-fill. Post-fill systems have visible water in the brine tank most of the time because they “soak” the salt for the regeneration cycle.
      Pre-fill systems are the most common and fill the brine tank prior to regeneration. Regeneration uses the brine water from the tank until the next scheduled regeneration. With this type of system water should not be visible unless the tank is empty or during a fill cycle.

      Perhaps you could try a “factory reset” to see if that solves the problem. This website has some simple instructions whirlpoolwatersolutions.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/4418215950359-How-to-Perform-a-Factory-Reset

    After you bypass it, you better depressurize the tank or you’ll get a big surprise

      @@karlwilliams1271 you have system under pressure, anywhere from 40 to 60 psi. Unless you want it to blow off in your face, I’d relieve the pressure
