  • Page Field in Fort Myers, FL is a great general aviation airport with a popular FBO, Base Ops. I hadn't been to Page Field in five years, so I was excited when flight training needs recently presented a reason to fly back to Fort Myers - from our temporary home this winter in Melbourne. The flight was operated under IFR, but it was a clear day with great flying conditions.

    I really liked the controller at Melbourne. He spoke very clearly and absolutely on point. I had a good mental picture what was going on just sitting here listening to him. Great flight Martin! Florida is always busy but fun. As always thanks for bringing us along with you.

    Really enjoying your videos, Martin. I'm coming to the USA soon to fly around the country and it's been invaluable watching you fly in U.S. airspace in such a professional way. Very helpful to build a picture of what to expect in terms of airspace, RTF, instrument procedures, etc. Thank you!

      If your trip is such that it can include an overnight stay in Mason City, IA (KMCW) on the third Thursday of any month, you should plan to stop there for the monthly airport BBQ. Thank me later!

    Hi Martin. It's always good to get some time in the air with you. It helps me do some armchair flying to keep my brain in shape for flying my A36 out of KDYL. I noticed those nasty red "expired" tags on the taxi diagram on your iPad. Was there a download update missing on your EFB?

    Hi Martin, I subscribed just today, I like your professional flying, something for me to aim for!
    I have just purchased a 1978 A36, I was wondering what year yours is, the old panel layout seemed almost identical to mine.
    Very interesting video’s particularly interested in anything A36 currently of course, mine has a 520 almost running out of hours not sure about 550 upgrade though, looking forward to watching the video on your upgrade. My century 3 autopilot is in-operative as well so there’s another problem. Thanks for all your content enjoyed the one with Doug regarding engine failures after take off, great information!

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  5 місяців тому +1

      My A36 is a 1978 model, too - so the similarity is no coincidence. The IO-550 is a great engine for this airframe, eliminating most concerns about take-off and climb performance, flying in the summer, and flying in the mountains. I've never met an A36 owner who did the upgrade and then later wished they hadn't.
      Regards,
      Martin

  • @dnoslen6124
    @dnoslen6124 7 місяців тому +1

    Hi Martin. Great video. On your departure brief I would suggest adding lower nose to maintain best glide speed. IMO If you have a total engine failure your airspeed is going to decrease rapidly if you don’t lower your nose. Just a reminder to self to watch your airspeed because there is going to be a startle factor if that would happen. Blue Skies!

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  7 місяців тому +1

      Agreed - lowering the nose is important. I would add that this is a gerat argument against Vx/Vy climbs - keep the pitch attitude shallow if runway length, terrain and obstacles allow, and build some airspeed. That why you'll see me accelerate to 120 KIAS so soon right after take-off.

  • @jacobkiehl5302

    Quick question: When on a visual approach, how do you know what altitude to set for your missed approach? You put 2000 in the FD in case of missed in this video. Thanks!

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  7 місяців тому +1

      There is no published missed approach for a visual approach; thus there isn't a published missed approach altitude. If a real missed approach was necessary, Tower would issue instructions for heading and altitude. The published missed approach altitude is a good default value to have, though, in case of a lost-comm situation - it's a safe altitude to climb to if all else fails.
