    Martin, I just told my Wife to get her passport renewed and I’ll take her to Bimini in a C182. We had plans to go to Asheville, NC KAVL in November, but the flooding up there has us looking to go elsewhere. Thanks for your videos. Were inspired to take our first trip to the Bahamas!

      Awesome! I hope you and your wife enjoy your trip to Bimini. Maybe add a little island hopping once you are in the Bahamas; we didn’t and later thought it would have been a good add-on.

      It really was quite simple, easier than I had imagined prior to this first flight we made to the Bahamas. In reality, the hardest part of this trip was navigating our way through the airport in Bimini to get to the ramp and our airplane.

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  9 днів тому

      @@robertsummers5264 Good question... I think that's a toss. I do like the Aspen setup which gives e the ability to see things like a dedicated traffic display and timers at a glance. At the same time, all-Garmin would have slightly better integration, e.g. display of autopilot modes on the PFD instead of the dedicated mode annunciator panel I have now. I could be perfectly content with either one, as both companies know how to get the job done well.

  • @johnfitzpatrick2469

    That was a fast "three mile final" from the Embraer jet, and cleared quite quickly.
    Makes me think about non-towered. Is there a rule once a plane broadcasts their "on final" what about if your holding in a L39 jet and some smuck in a "buck fifty" radio's
    'on a straight in five mile final.' 🤪
    Beautiful blue water around the island.

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  Місяць тому

      Thanks, John - I agree, the whole area (and the water in particular) are stunningly beautiful.
      As for a clear rule which says when to hold short and when to go: no, there isn't one for non-controlled airports. Back in the old days, even the distance from touchdown was at best a rough estimate. So it's at our discretion, and of course we try to be careful and not take chances, while also being reasonably efficient.

    Great flight. With all the mods, why no turbo normalizer yet?

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  Місяць тому +2

      Good question. Turbo-normalization would indeed be very nice to have (who wouldn't like the extra speed and altitude capability!), but it's not something that I think of as required, based on where I live. If I lived in the western half of the country, I'd probably think differently.
      And who knows, maybe one day I'll get a TAT system added.

    Hi Martin. Is the GDL 52 used to provide ADSB to the iPad for Foreflight/Garmin Pilot? Can the 750s not do that? Thanks!

    • @martinpauly
      @martinpauly  Місяць тому +4

      The GDL52 can do that, but as you correctly pointed out, my iPad already gets ADS-B data (traffic and FIS-B weather) from the GTN 750Xi. The additional function which the GDL52 performs in my setup is it receives SiriusXM weather and feeds it to the iPad and Garmin Pilot. I highlighted a few of the reasons why I prefer SXM over FIS-B weather in a previous video: ua-cam.com/video/EoVtAgW5vsA/v-deo.html
