Agreed, and I’m very hard to please, especially when it comes to horror film. The only horror films that I really enjoy are those in which I feel both terrified of, yet profoundly curious about and drawn to, the subject matter. That is how I feel toward the things that terrify me in real life-the terror and the attraction feed off one another.
I'm proud to say I've seen every movie on the list and they're all quite good, especially Deborah Logan, Hell House, and As Above, So Below. I also love the V/H/S series, but those are pretty well known. Also, congrats on 1 million subs! Here's to a million more
Lake Mongo, you mean the animated feature where in 2007, a Far Far Away citizen documents his exploration of a nearby lake in which a giant gingerbread man supposedly drowned in during a giant raid on the royal's castle that happened 3 years prior? 😉
The first 30 minutes of Hell House LLC is on the best found footage films ever in my opinion. Very suspenseful, the acting of the experts/witnesses is solid and convincing.
The very first time I've watched grave encounters I got halfway through the movie i couldnt even finish because how scary it was and this was when I was about 8 years old it's an good movie but I can't finish it
For the Butterfly Kisses one it should be noted that the main character Gavin is above and beyond obnoxious. But its definitely worth a watch. To me it breaks the found foot rules to have such a extremely unlikeable main character. I also dont understand how grave encounters gets so much love. Another horrible main character lol
I'll have to look for a list about every FFM, there are some I haven't watched that I forgott the names of & some even were not released here in Germany. There's 1 specific movie about Aliens invading & the military fights them off in secret, but it's not an action-movie, and I think it's produced by Ridley Scott. That one was never released here if I remember right...
There is a found footage movie whose name I can't remember, I only remember the last scene where the female lead paranormal investigator finds herself dead and crying in a haunted house, but the spirit of a little girl killed there tells her stop crying, you can stay with me in my room. That last scene is the only thing I remember.
3 standouts from the VHS series (might be off on exactly which VHS these 3 segments are from, but if so, in literally only off by 1 installment, i.e. if I said "the 1st one," and I'm wrong, then it's part 2)...here goes: VHS 1: --1st person zombie/go pro.... self explanatory. VHS 2 (this 1 I know is on 2, cuz its my #1 fav): --the documentary on that weird Asian cult; to sat anymore would allow it be ok to have someone beat the crap out of me, in case, in ANY way, I spoil ANYTHING.... to say that this segment of this great series is unpredictable, scary, and pretty friggin cuckoobananas crazy, might be the understatement of the decade "Whatever the most recent" VHS is: ---possession & hell: Unique, scary as hell, but somehow still FUN is really only way to describe it lol....the got balls to do what they did in this segment, cuz u ain't really seen this many movies or something go where they go, literally and physically... (coulda done without the VERY crowbarred in "u always boss me around, I do whatever U say, NO MORE BRO! I DONT CARE THAT IM YELLING AND GIVING UP OUR POSITION!!," cuz it juzt WOULDNT HAPPEN like that if by God somehow u were cursed to go thru what they did..... other than that, even the over the top acting of the helper chick is cool and juzt works!! I highly, HIGHLY recommend them!
I never get Willow Creek, you hear a few growls towards the end and that's it. Not sure how it builds any tension, was zero tension for me. Just a predictable, boring FF movie.
These are actually some of the most common and well-known found footage movies....you want OBSCURE???? I will give you obdcure lol. Hit me up and Id be more than happy to give you some REAL gems.
Exactly, my first thought was this is a list of the most well known found footage movies. I’m assuming their definition of obscure is basically “anything that isn’t Blair Witch or Paranormal Activity” lol.
Grave Encounters Creep Noroi: The Curse The Taking of Deborah Logan Hell House LLC As Above, So Below Lake Mungo Ghostwatch The Houses October Built Butterfly Kisses Afflicted Area 51 Willow Creek
It's not a horror film, but a found footage movie I highly recommend is Killing Gunther. It's one of the funniest movies I've seen in years, and I know everyone here will love it.
🙄creep is not found footage. Found footage would imply that the film is shown by those not involved in the film. Creep is “found” by the creep character Who killed the idiot who filmed him. The idiot tries to report creepy to the cops but can’t finger out how to. Dude you have hours of video. This stupid movie deserves no praise
Thank you for drawing attention to Butterfly Kisses! It deserves a wider audience.
I love as above so below
same... never found any other film identical to it

you have seen all of them and don't consider Noroi as a top one? :s
This is such a good list!!! ive seen a bunch of them and recommend all of them! found footage is one of my fav horror sub-genres
The VHS series is good. They get worse as you go on but each has 1-2 decent stories.
Lake Mungo might be the best found footage from ever. Don't sleep on that one, and feel free to watch my review of it on my channel 🙂
Says "obscure found footage movies" literally names THE MOST POPULAT ONES. Who the f*ck are these guys trying to kid? 😅
I remember grave encounters it was a very interesting found footage horror movie.
Lake Mongo really got to me. When I was watching it, it felt boring. But when I was trying to sleep it really stayed with me.

Loved Grave Encounters.

@mistagg - Another great page with great content and recommendations too!
Grizly Man, the most frightning real found footage horror movie
The very first time I've watched grave encounters I got halfway through the movie i couldnt even finish because how scary it was and this was when I was about 8 years old it's an good movie but I can't finish it
You was 8 when that movie drop? I'm just going to stop reading comments because they make me feel old....😂
I know this is a more recent film, but you should check out "Late night with the devil" quite entertaining. And it shares the found footage trope.
The Scooby Doo project
"Exists" is a much better effort at telling a Bigfoot story in FF style than "Willow Creek".

You forgot Red Sonjia, Naked Warriors, Hercules, Yor...
so happy to see afflicted on here. such a hidden gem

Chronicles should’ve been on here
Hell house is a fantastic series of movies
I watch them alone in the dark 😅

I highly, HIGHLY recommend them!
Great list but inaccurate title. Almost not at all obscure. I would say these are ones ALL found footage fans have seen and can find easily.
I'm waiting for obscure ff movies
WHaaat?!?!? you guys didn't mention Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum.
All timers
I never get Willow Creek, you hear a few growls towards the end and that's it. Not sure how it builds any tension, was zero tension for me. Just a predictable, boring FF movie.
No "Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon"?
I love that movie too. Perhaps it's a bit more mockumentary than found footage. :)
Butterfly Kisses was boring imo.
What lol ... All of these except Hellhouse LLC, Afflicted and Butterfly Kisses are extremely well known, not just to people who enjoy the genre.
These are actually some of the most common and well-known found footage movies....you want OBSCURE???? I will give you obdcure lol. Hit me up and Id be more than happy to give you some REAL gems.

Creep
Noroi: The Curse
The Taking of Deborah Logan
Hell House LLC
As Above, So Below
Lake Mungo
Ghostwatch
The Houses October Built
Butterfly Kisses
Afflicted
Area 51
Willow Creek
It's not a horror film, but a found footage movie I highly recommend is Killing Gunther. It's one of the funniest movies I've seen in years, and I know everyone here will love it.
Obscure?? Some of them where released worldwide in theatres…. Pathetic
Hell house and the house october built were just annoying
As above so below took forever to get into

found footage is the worst thing to happen to horror genre
Hell house is better
Both "Grave Encounters" and "The Houses October Built" were really good yet they both had bad unnecessary sequels.
Most of these aren't remotely "obscure."
