I liked this Video comparing the solid & flex. Were I shear I run into low ceiling barns. So lots of times neither work. Many years ago I had lister make me a combination shaft solid bottom & short flex to the motor. The elbow is all screw together no hook & eyes. In 20+ years I have only broke two inner cores on the flex. This has been very cost beneficial. Ralph has made some up & has spare should I need.
I see Ralph there. On the flex solid dispute you drag the flex while the solid helps push the hand piece. You handle the solid well and my advise is stay solid but don’t be afraid to use the flex. Have watched all your videos and like your attitude and style. You really only lack the numbers of sheep. Nowadays that’s the hard part. Get my info from Ralph and contact me sometime. Would love to visit.
Hi shamus good video thank you for shearing it do you use worm or pin drive with flexi and if u use worm does it cause u trouble like the hand piece coming off
I use a worm drive. It's a safety feature with the heiniger machines. When it hits metal ear tags, the machine goes into reverse and kicks the handpiece out. I dont struggle too much getting the handpiece off
Is it reasonable or would you still recommend solid shafts when shearing larger sheep? because they are harder to handle? The sheer I have are very large and not a docile breed tbh?? Curious what you think
It depends on where you are shearing, in Montana most ranches provide food. In other areas the shearers bring their own. In other countries like Australia food is often provided.

Respect and honor is what makes a friendship. And a funny nickname helps.
You're a good friend, Shamus.

First. Do you have to pack a lunch, or is food provided by the rancher or shearing company?
