This is a great topic. Early in my shearing learning experience, I tried to copy the originator - Godfrey Bowen. For me it became frustrating. He had great control of the sheep with his strong thick legs. I have chicken legs and am taller than Godfrey was, so leg control became non functional at times depending on the sheep. Twenty years in now with shearing I have finally developed an individual method that fits my body build and control of sheep (the basis of speed) has become vastly improved.
You are right, copying the efficient shearers does yield faster times but if the copying isn't producing any significant gains or is uncomfortable, don't be afraid to experiment to develop an individual method - for the "Bowen" method has been modified by many of the speed shearers.
