Idk florida as a whole has got some hefty competition lol. But yeah DC traffic is freaking nuts. I guess when you deal with that traffic every day, you end up losing it a bit 😂
The Catoctin Creek Ragnarök Rye was a special collaboration with the legendary Richmond, VA band GWAR. The original version was the same bottle but the toppers were the masks of each of the current members. The bottle they showed was the special Oderus Edition honoring the 10 year anniversary of the passing of GWAR singer Oderus Urungus/Dave Brockie. That version was their regular rye finished in rum casks
that kentucky owl price wasn't a mistake. al liquor store near me (NY) was selling batch 12 for $115 . Owner said the distributor was trying to liquidate their stock and gave him a good deal.
I just moved not even a mile from the Allview Liquor store. Love what Justin does for the community and I have definitely been a regular down here since moving.
Was fun meeting up with everyone at Drug City. Wish I could have made the earlier stops! Also, I may have been talking out my ass about the Calumet. I blame whoever told me that rumor!
Catoctin Creek is one of the best bang for your buck ryes out there. Maryland has a deep history with rye. Baltimore area was the top producer of rye whiskey back in the day
Rye is the original American grain used for distilling. Long history of it dating back to colonial times. Ryes used to be distilled in people’s homes, so there were literally thousands of home distillers in colonial times.
Glad you enjoyed bmore! Good whiskey scene here. Disappointed you didn't pick up the Sagamore BIB, it's a gingerbread bomb and all their own distillate. Purple rising is 100% their juice too, glad to see it coming out so good.
Can't believe you came through my town in Howard County! Hope you enjoyed your stay. Also, very good of you to get a crabcake. Gambril is pretty close to the bay. Glad you liked it 😊
I hope you checked the stores even if they didn’t let you film. We would be happy if you showed a purchase of something interesting in the parking lot.
Maryland is different because each county has different rules concerning how alcohol can be sold. Montgomery County operates their own liquor stores while another county only allowed alcohol to be sold in dedicated liquor stores. I remember staying in Baltimore and a drug store near the red light district had at least an aisle of liquor.
@@biggrocc19 Yeah. In most MD counties, alcohol cannot be sold in grocery stores but one county does allow that. Some MD supermarkets are grandfathered in so they can sell alcohol. I'm in VA and we can buy beer/wine in most stores between 6AM and midnight. I was denied once when I tried to buy beer at 5am at a 24hr Walmart.
@@JPNess495 Pikesville is great but since it’s not local anymore, it makes sense for TJ to pick up a local bottle. Would have been a good discussion point for sure though.

Maryland actually has a really good whiskey scene. I’ve found lots of stuff available that I’d have a hard time finding elsewhere. Allview, Drug City, and Wine Source are my go to stops in and around Baltimore. Guess it was a good place for a whiskey crazy Indiana native to move to after graduating 😅

TJ - I'm just Mike. It was great hunting with you. I've been practicing my intro for next time but wanted to make sure you had some good content for the video.
Check out Average Joe's Whiskey. He films in VA ABC all the time. And with an employee too so whoever told you that you couldn't film was wrong. Allview is a great store. Got that same Tumblin' Dice from there. The regular Tobacco Barn is 4 yr, 90 proof, and 20%rye and is good. Color on mine is same as Green River FP. I'll have to check out a couple of the stores next time I'm in MD. You need to give VA another chance and hit some of the distilleries if you want locally made products.
I just left Drug City looking for the Wild Turkey 70 year anniversary bottle. They have them but haven't released them for sale yet (its on pours at the bar however)
Knowledgeable viewers - I'm watching from England and I've been enchanted by the adventures of our host. I haven't drunk bourbon for over twenty years and that was bog standard Jack Daniel's. My local off licence stocks Bulleit, Knob Creek, Maker's Mark, Buffalo Trace and Woodford Reserve. I know these aren't the treasures that people watch these videos for - but if I was to take a punt on one of those bottles, which one would be best place to start? I've seen Dettling available here, but I would have to travel and it's a lot more expensive than these ones.
You can't go wrong with any of them, but I find Woodford Reserve is an easy drinking crowd pleasing bourbon that also has a fair price. Regarding Jack Daniels, sure the old number 7 is the baseline, but it's still decent juice. Others such as Jack Daniels Single Barrel Select or a nice Jack Daniels Coy Hill are fantastic if you can find one.
You don't need to see how many years it has been aged because if you have knowledge of what the mash law is it usually varies between a minimum of being aged 36 months to 48... Add that up for the answer to how long it has been aged for... Now when it says double-edged or extra-aged means the same thing just twice as long... A good example would be like Jim beam black label... First Jim beam's Black label was aged for a minimum of 8 years then they changed the label again to extra aged without leaving a number on it... Then they change the label to its final bottle that we have now present to Jim beam black 7 years...
Check out Rude Burger in Easton Maryland. They have a great bourbon selection to try by the oz and make Bourbon Slushies. Cherry Old Fashion and Cinnamon Apple are the flavors right now.
