Augefühl, great video as usual. Nice restyling of the C4 Cactus. It still has enough character, but looks much more elegant. You could say that Cactus has grown up. I think it will cost a little bit more, but it will probably stay a good value car.
cheeres m8 !
Looks pleasantly grown up yet still oozes personality. Now available with improved noise isolation (window / door rubbers). And a 130 ps version. Yummie!!
I really love Thomas's videos, I hope they never stop
keep supporting us! :)
I really like it. The new suspension is extremely interesting.
I really like the exterior design and the seat colours are very pleasant. The only aspect I don't particulary like is the instrument panel. The suspension sounds promising - especially for UK roads.
Wow! I think it´s a great redesign! I like the new C4 Cactus better than the old one, which was already quite interesting to look at and drive. Of course, for me, as a true Citroen fan, it´s the new suspension system that is the most interesting element of the new car. I can't wait to try it. I have great expectations for the total experience of the comfort, with the hydraulic cushions plus newly designed seats. However, I know I will miss the option to make the car elevate if needed, especially during winter time up here in Norway, as I always use this option in my C5 with hydraulic suspension when the snow is too deep to drive in with regular cars. I click a button twice and my C5 turns into a SUV with great ground clearance. So that will be missed for sure. But for most people, I guess the new system will be just fine. And give an impressive ride. As for the C-pillar design, I think it´s a welcome change as it makes the car look even more beautiful and modern. The new and smaller air bumps makes the cars look more beautiful, more elegant. I also love the idea of the different air bump on the back of the car. As you say, must have been developed due to the Paris traffic. :) The interior also looks great and the whole cockpit looks better than before. A real automatic gear is also a welcome change. All in all, this is really the most exciting car on the market for Q1 2018. I can't wait to test drive it myself. With the upcoming C4 Cactus, Citroen have really made me want one! Nice work Citroen! Growing up in my grand fathers CX, my fathers GSA and BX, and now driving in my own C5, I can say that I am happy to see that the true DNA of Citroen lives on in the form of innovative designs and quirky (you may say crazy) ideas. Love it! Bring on 2018 and the new Citroen generation! :) I´d also like to say that I'm a huge fan of your program and really think it´s the best automobile review show on this planet! Thomas´ attention to details are really impressive, and like many have said before me, Thomas really makes the viewers feel that they've test driven the car just by looking at the program on the computer screen! Keep up the good, no, GREAT work, Thomas & Autogefuhl team! :) Best Regards, Thomas in Norway
tusind tak! We re keeping u updated and hope to drive the new suspension soon!
Even if two year's ago.. Thank's for your interesting feedback or view of the 2 generation of Cactus. Even me i was growing up with GS and some DS. Excellent cars. My myself, I bought newly the top modell of Cactus. And so far, indeed very satisfied with the new comfort standard.
Your reviews are always pumped up to the max !! Awesome friend
thanks pal !
Thomas, this is the perfect inside information in the modern strategy of Citroen. Very interesting ! And thx
appreciated!
27:40 That’s why I love your reviews. They’re very detailed. You addressed a question I’ve been having for a while. In short, I can’t retrofit my older Cactus with the PHC suspension.
What a beautiful stylish car
Thomas, you got the best reviews.
+Joachim Jacobsen 🙏🙏
That is a very handsome car !!
I like the design of this one! The previous one I liked too, because it was rather quirky but I have to admit I would never have bought it for myself..
The interior is wonderful, especially those seats. Nice creative use of cloth material and different design. The highlight of the car for me.
I'm very curious about the new hydraulic dampers, can't wait for the test drive report! :-)
+Gerard van Essen 👍
The white Cactus looks pretty good!
Good job. Love the seats
thx pal !
I don't think it is either inferior or superior to the old design. To begin with, I liked the format of the old lamps on the rear that reminded me of the old ZX (which I loved passionately) and now it looks more like the 3008, still not like it's a bad thing, I actually liked them this way too. The removal of the air lumps from the sides, sure make it more elegant and I don't think they ever were that practical for their purposes, it's good on paper but are they ever used to that purpose unless someone is actually trying to beat your car's sides on purpose?. So I don't really mind having them removed but surely it steals a bit of the old cactus personality. And the rear is just even more flawless and sharper, I love it and overall this pattern that Citroen is taking in regards to the styling of their cars.
Wow, I really like it! I didn't like the air bumps and the rear lights look much nicer.
I just love Citroën. Even when they try to calm down design they are still light years in front of competitors. Hope they will soon introduce C6 for Europe.
Are they? I hate PSA cars. They're ugly.
I love them too
g00dfeeling yes I am a fan 2
Here also big fan and long time Citroen owner.
Cars are people transporters......I like the way Citreon dont waver from this core value with their loyalty to comfort. Kudos Citreon!
Good review i liked the side air bags on the old model .This reminds me of my old BX if its as good that in a new version it will be winner
thanks keep watching us!
I really liked the old one...just not the fact it didn't have split-folding seats, wind-down rear windows or buttons for the climate control. The restyle does work in my opinion but I will admit to the fact that the car does appear to have lost some of its uniqueness. Verdict: A mish-mash, you either love it or you hate it. I love it and will consider it for my next car
Angrier, sportier, more current. I see they made C4 Cactus beautiful as they can!
At first I preferred the old design but by the end of the video I don’t mind the change. Citroen fabric seats look great style wise and they look pretty comfortable too.
And I usually keep the AC on 22 degrees auto so I don’t think the touchscreen would bother me much.
But I think good voice control would be the best alternative to a knob.
Also first PHEV in 2019 and first EV in 2020 is unbelievably weak in my opinion.
+Chris Till good thoughts
Great review with very much informations and an interview with the CEO😱 Now the car not looking so cheap as it looked like in the past.
+Da StormtroopeR 👌
Well, I like it and it should fit exactly my needs later next year. Better looking than the older one, in my opinion.
Great review ! Keep up with the great work !
thanks keep supporting us!
Brave move Citroen to combine the C4 and the C4 Cactus into one car !! . I'm not so sure that its going to work in sales figures especially since its still got fixed rear windows.
Once among the endless lines of cars that moved me to a meeting, I noticed an unusual car, coated on the door. I thought that the unusual and practical. I became interested in this car and eventually bought the 1.2 turbo. New version of Cactus, I would not have noticed, because this is another ordinary car.
Silver-black combination looks the best to me. Although the old design looked much better.
Thanks!
I really like the design, looks very fresh and original but not crazy like a lot of asian ones)
Great review of the C4 Cactus. Nice looking car and likely more appealing to conservative car buyers. Look forward to the driving review to see if it has improved any :-)
+Andrew K, Northern Ireland thanks! Will do :)
It just look great, good job citroen :) only problem, the rear window :/ but you can get a 130 HP petrol engine thats great
I was drawn to the Citroen Cactus by the extraordinary looks of the old Cactus. This update looses a significant percentage of the extraordinary, and so no, I won't be looking at one of these when the time comes to renew.
I wonder what the new lower air bumps are going to protect from? Rogue hedgehogs?
Great rear windows....i wish the facelift of this model take the compas system and put it in the front windows. They can also cut costs on the steering wheel and replace it with resistive touchscreen...
The old Cactus appeared to my eyes to be built from cardboard and pieces of foam. Which probably represented an improvement over past Citroen's. I've never got over the trauma of owning two different Saxos; I still suffer the flashbacks about faulty ECUs, juddering clutches, seized calipers, stalling and backfiring (on a car one year old!), Leaky washer reservoir, rusting exhausts, faulty column stalks...some sins are not forgiven
Big improvement on how it looks over the outgoing original, but a big mistake not to give the rear passenger doors retractable windows like everything else in its class. Pop-out windows are fine on something like a C1 or VW Up!, but not here.
14:52 I had this in my Volkswagen year 2001
This car became cool and more futuristic I think!
Old one is much uniquer(I miss those big air bumps btw...) but I think this one isn’t bad.
Yeah I’m also interested in hydraulic suspension of this car so I’d like to drive this car someday :)
I think it is better looking than the existing C4 cactus. Interior is also very clean. Not everyone wants a technology show in the interior. Also comfort comes b4 sporty drive so if the drive is as comfortable as they claim, i would consider one.
innovative handbrake ever
I'm looking forward to a full and in depth review of this car :-)
I noticed just lately , 22 in this auto setting in Pre-winter goes onto your feet and gets too hot. so i change to manuall on 20 to my face and point vents up ! This works for me
I really like it, it might even be my next car. The design is all very good maybe I liked the former back lights better though.
I preferred the big side air bumps which protected the side in car parks, But in the latest of the older model which I have they abandoned the Stop /Start system. yet they gave it back intros new car! The new suspension idea seems good and the look of the new car should sell better but losing the air bumps is a pity!
Exterior looks much better now. I liked it before, but this is more upmarket looking imo and I reckon it'll age better now. Still, I think it's too small for a crossover.
This design is better. I drove Citroën in the past (the hydropneumatic ones) and that attracted me. I took the quality issues in my stride. That was worth it. Since there is no hydropneumatism anymore, I do not drive Citroën anymore. Also I do not need a big car anymore. Life goes on :-) But I am extremely curious about this new suspension. Maybe I will even try it our myself. Because after enjoying hydropneumatism, all next cars felt a bit primitive in the suspension.
The last version was much better in my opinion.
The looks of the back of the car is really better looking for me
Because of the mic i thought he was going to sing... great review though. (A bit long) 😉👍🏼 The car looks great and maybe better imo but i liked how the previous looked more unique and a litte strange.
Thanks for this in depth view of the new Cactus. It's a huge mistake of Citroen to remove the Air Bumbs,i also miss the push button Controls for the autotranny as well as the "bench" style front seat.Vielen Dank !!
cheers!
I like this car especially in the presented blue color. The evolution succeded. What I'd change is the antena - I suggest to redesign it into fin or make it smaller. Now it looks old fashioned instead of vintage. The second think is I'd cover side stills with doors - the plastic bumper could be moved a little bit lover. That would protect passengers from getting dirty. It's a modern design trend today. Then again, I like this version of Cactus. Good move Citroen! :-)
Love the new Citroen design! Hope they stick to it :)
like the new design same as previous
I don't mind the small changes on the front and back, but the new placement for the airbumps turn them completely useless.
Thumbs up for the improvements on the suspensions and seats (my 17" inch alloys can be rough on some surfaces). The new TFT seems easier to use the climate controls and the map.
best review
notification squad ...its fucking 200k subscribers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AMAZING ..well deserved :D
Top review
Would like to have the choice to change it back: the airbumps. Also where is the electric version?
now much better looking
I think Citroen the best car at present time ! I mean innovation, techologies...
finally a video on English,a huge releasing like this, and the PSA didn't care about communication.. the world speaks English, not French!
I have the first generation cactus in hello yellow. This generation has lost a lot of its character. Hopefully the reliability will be better than the previous version. It looks like they forgot to give the car some roof rails. Good video with a good explanation of the new features!
+Robin BE cheers!
Thomas very good video and I would highlight the fact that during the interviews you asked at least twice about the main lamps! You were expecting an answer saying ... yes we can offer led as optional! This is a pain point for citroen and honestly I am curious why they don’t offer it. I have the new c3 - an amazing car to live with - and I was expecting to offer led headlights with this new C4 cactus but it’s not there! Many thanks for the video. Vasilis
hehe yes. But as you maybe seen it, he answered that Halogen only at the very end =)
Autogefühl I saw that. It’s a pity as we are talking for a 2018 model. I was wondering why is that and what is behind this decision. Note that in PSA - 308 - we have led since they introduced it on 2014. Let’s see what the future will bring. Thanks a lot for your answer! Vasilis
Citroen in 2014 named the car ‘Cactus’: just like the plant, this car can repel anything out to harm it...
And one more comment about the rear of the car. Why did they not placed airbumps there???? With two of them on each side of the rear bumper it might be practical.
Interesting car, but I found (for me) a little mistake. For a compact car, it is too small. It should be longer.
Also the rear space and the space under the hatch should be bigger.
In this size, I personly think its main compedditor is the citroen C3 Aircross. Or what do you think?
It is just a matter of commerce, so Citroen decided to redesign its C4 Cactus simply in order to raise sales playing in this compact cars' niche
RIP Citroen
Older Cactus was more funky and unique. I love that car.
For this one it is fine for me, I liked the gray color. But I didn't like that black covering on A pillar... It looks like an aftermarket job.
looks like a Mini Cooper in a Mitsubishi had a baby I like it
Citroen should put out a hot hatch, their cars are seriously underpowered.
Love the update and great review.
Really looking forward to tests of the new suspension and seats, it really sets this car apart. But the long term quality is probably still much worse than that of a Toyota, Honda, Suzuki, Mitsubishi, Subaru.
Sadly the german magazines are tearing the new Cactus apart already, writing the car is uncool, has no equipment and bad engines (even though it won engine comparisons against all including VW in the exact same magazine).
How is this even legal? VW seems to be getting depserate, influencing the press to slander the competiotion more than ever, it's getting out of control :(
Don't like the new rear end. Taillights look nasty. And I don't like the fact that they turned the Airbumps into a stupid decoration. Also, since it's not "the cheap one" Rear windows should open like in a regular car. But the front looks better imo.
No Led or Xenon option? Are they insane? Halogen as the top option in 2018?
Great insight into the way Citroen are taking the c4 .When are you heading out on the road c4 cactus would like to hear your take on the seats and suspension.
cheers! we ll do in a couple of weeks
The previous model looks sooooooooo much better......this is like a c3
This is soo much better than the old design. The old one has pretty awful taillights, these ones are much more elegant.
I really appreciate the fancy design of Citroen and all other french cars. Technically they aren't as advanced as german cars and that's a pity. But, I wouldn't buy a "boring" car.
Anyway, thanks for keeping up the level! Another great review!
+Te Za 🙏🙏
You do realize Bugatti is a French company, right?
Actually, no because Bugatti is not in my range of interest and the name sounds italian :) but thanks for information.
Te Za
Citroen!! thought you where the only Marque that did not do "Normal" ?
I think at Citroen they should change the team working on door design, I have a c4 and when I get in it the opening is too low so I can hit my head on the roof and for the cactus the rear window not opening is a bad idea
And I have the same problem you had to access the seat adjustments, it's IMPOSSIBLE when the door is closed and tricky even with the door open
Removing the airbump door protection is a huge mistake, it now just looks like a bland "also ran" in the class. Whoever came up with this has failed Citroen.
Except that the airbumps were evidently discouraging buyers. Citroën need to sell cars as well as make them distinctive; they've been through the whole process of massively different, low volume cars and have decided to just knock a few rough edges off and sell more. Who can blame them? Perhaps you mean whoever came up with this has failed you. Don't take it personally, I'm sure they didn't mean to offend you.
greetings "anti leather warrior" :).... nice video as always! I loved how you manage to baffle mr. Xavier Peugeot :D! and I'm sorry you didn't ask even more "unpleasant" questions, like.... what kind of product strategy is to "half-turn" B segment MPV in to B segment crossover and "forcefully" redesign B segment crossover (made on identical mechanics and practically of the same size) in to "C segment" hatch?! ...or... do they really think we would believe it is C segment hatch despite its mechanics, its dimensions and its new "B segment" front design says otherwise?! so, as far as I am concerned, this redesign is a mistake! or, in other words, I believe it would look much better, with all these new styling features, if they left its roof bars in place and increased it ground clearance instead of lowering it.... the way it is, they just managed to ruin almost all of its original cheerful and unique character and personality! original Cactus was a great design and a good idea.... which sadly was extremely badly executed! most likely because of the tough situation they were in while developing and launching it... though, calling it C4 was supreme idiocy from the beginning! and still is....
the only problem for me is the rear windows, that thing doesnt open up.
Tadeu Ferreira The same on the DS4 but you can live with that. And all cars today have a climate control.
Can’t believe rear windows don’t roll down fully in a car of this class.
Looks like a copy of the C3?
Hux Funny, C3 is a copy of the first Cactus, this one is a copy of C3....next C3 would be a copy of this one, less innovative design at every step I guess, sadly
For me the Cactus needed a good transmission, better infotainment, some quality improvements...maybe they focused on the wrong things?
Is Citroen trying to make the back end/tail light treatment look like a Volkswagen?.. it seems to be the weakest design point as compared with the rest of the exterior.
Those chairs must be super comfy. Fantastic interior.
Point for You Thomas! I would have also asked if for example my Citroen C4 can be equiped with the new cusions. After the car ( and the spare parts) will be released to the market I will have to ask my Citroen local dealer if it is possible or not. It might be great to improve the quality of driving experience just adding the new hydraulic cusions not to sell and buy the new car. Again thanks for the review! Hope to see the new C4 Cactus im Testbericht :-)
thanks! We ll try to test drive it :)
und jetzt die Frauge lautet.... wann? :-)
In my point of view the best = DS>Citroën>Peugeot>Opel
I hate plastic trim. I don't know whether it offers any real protection or advantages but the trouble is that it is difficult to keep clean and its looks will deteriorate over time and look shabby and bleached.
It would be good to have separate buttons for the climate control. The women in the family turn usually every knob, me on the other hand usually leave it in auto-mode :) Of course this depends on the functionality of the system but I've noticed that the Germans do it quite well so that the draft is mild kind of when it's in the auto-mode. Thanks Thomas for the review!
cheers! Feel free to recommend us :)
comparing to the concurrence the c4 cactus is far away in another world
When will we be getting a full review of the new 🌵?
Today! 🌵 🌵
They killed all spirit of real cactus car.
The new design is better than the original Cactus which I find hideous. However it's ridiculous of Citroen to expect this low cost offering (no rear windows, no right air outlet for the A/C) to be a serious contender in the compact hatchback segment. With its supermini-like dimensions (only 1.71m wide, 10cm less than an average compact) it's really more like a station wagon version of the C3 and not a true compact. It's also weird that they tried to convince us a 1.48m tall car was an SUV before but now it's a hatchback because we they off the roof rails. In short this car started its life as a marketing gimmick and continues to do so with this restyle. Mostly shows PSA lack resources for developing serious (non-SUV) contenders in the compact and large segments.
Lets be honest here. Airbumps were fine, roof rails weren't a problem either but everything else was, starting from the drum brakes at the back, shity manuel transmision, bad sound isolation etc etc and all or pretty much high price compared to competition. The only thing that was good was the design.
Johnny_MacArthur shitty manual transmission??? The auto was crap not the manual. High price? Difficult to say as it never had any direct competitors. The feeling of cheapness was one of the things that made the car unique but also pushed away potential customers (like myself), I think they have gone the right way making the car a more refined product
Fuel efficiency was good too.
Johnny_MacArthur they put a New 6speed manual gearbox and a better isolation...
I see u have a lot of experience with cars. Good for you if that manual on pre-designed cactus was good. For me it was shity.
High Price? Shameless liar. Who pays you to write that crap? I think i know, VW is getting desperate lately...
Are rear lamps activated with front led lights like in new Peugeot 308?
I much prefer the looks of the original C4 Cactus. This looks bland, the front is too busy, ... I would have loved to buy that car, but it felt a bit too cheap, the gauge cluster is terrible (no ref meter?), and it lacked all the assistance systems I wanted. Bought a Golf instead.
The things you sit on are not Kuh-shuns. But I do enjoy your school English.
Well done Citroen, you've made one of the most interesting cars this century look boring.
