Costochondritis Pain Relief | My Experience
Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 лют 2022
- Costochondritis is a condition in which this cartilage that attaches your ribs to your breastbone becomes irritated and inflamed. Costochondritis can be very painful and sometimes debilitating. I have had a few experiences where I went to the hospital because I was in so much pain from this condition. I had issues with costo for many years they figured out what was causing my symptoms and pain. Once I found the BackPod, my life changed. I am in no way promoting the BackPod but I do believe it works if it is costochondritis you are dealing with. As always, please consult a doctor before trying anything new.

This channel was formerly known as Live Hope Lupus and was created in order to start a community for those living with chronic illnesses. In September 2019, I transitioned to a plant-based diet and I have found my body is responding well to it. Along with my lifestyle change, I am learning to alter my focus more on the positive. My current content will focus on my healing journey, what food I am eating, and everyday life. I will still be posting an occasional update about my health. Literally the worst persistent pain I have ever experienced, I’ve had plenty of injuries but always felt able to do something, this is completely debilitating, never felt so depressed
Try massaging the painful area with coconut oil…has really taken the edge of the pain! coconut oil is a natural anti inflammatory and massaging encourages blood circulation in the area which speeds up healing , goodluck ❤️🩹
@@Imanne87pure coconut oil or ayurveda oil?
@@trendycollections127pure solid coconut oil in the jar , just scoop some out and use. It’s even great for sore throat …but it does cause some

buy an ice pack and a hot water bottle. ice the area for 20mins then apply heat for 20mins. repeat over and over. basically the only thing thats helped me and ive suffered from this chronically since i was around 20 after a car accident and im now 35. to the point ive had to take days off work due to it. very scary yes but once u can accept its not going to kill you its far easier to manage. sharp stabbing pain, sometimes for me happens after large meals and taking deep breaths ocassionally after yawning if its a big yawn also. Happens out of the blue in the strangest of situations at times. ibuprofen tablets or ibuprofen cream for the area is always handy to have in the house or for on the go.

It's cause pressure suddenly like heat attack man make you panic and anxiety kicks off
I hap hip surgery in 2016 and had all sorts of back/hip/shoulder pain and joint pain. I just found out I've had costochondritis causing debilitating pain. So amazing to find treatments for this and amazing that the 50 doctors and 15 physical therapist couldn't diagnose this for me. Thanks for sharing your story
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I get the same pain middle left of the chest, where breathing in all the way, is when the pain would happen. I lift my arm over my head and stretch that side of my chest, leaning back. It works.
Had the paramedics round as they always check you for heart attack, luckily for me one of the lovely ladies had suffered with costo and rang a doctor to prescribe a strong antiinflammatory and had it sent to my local pharmacy
The pain was soon under control, its a pain you'll never forget
This is something I need to talk to my doctor about. I have been having the pain you just described. I did set up an appointment, so hopefully they can pin point what exactly is causing the pain.
I hope you are able to get some answers!
@@HealWithSamantha hi, do you feel any chest fullness all time?
Thanks for sharing this, just wanted to share something that’s helped me is massaging the painful area with coconut oil ❤
I ordered the backpod and can't wait to try it out! So done with the chest pain...thank you for your recommendation
2 months in. How did it work out for you? Can you please share your experience`?
@@Rollmops It really works!!! I lie on it every morning for 5 - 10 minutes, moving every 30s or so, so it massages all around my upper back, especially in between my left shoulder blades and ribs. The first time I did it, it was SO PAINFUL, but afterwards, I honestly was amazed by how much I could expand my chest and breathe deeply. The pain went away basically in 2 days. I used to do this every morning, but now I do it maybe once every 2-3 days. It's such a simple tool, but it's made such a difference. I highly recommend if you have costochondritis!
Thanks for sharing your experience
Thank you. I will try it and let you know if it will make the pain disappear
How often would it bother you? For me it’s daily but more uncomfortable than anything. Maybe once a day I would get a small pain that won’t last long. But it’s been two months now and my cardio has rules out my heart. And what worked for you to treat it?
i have chronic costochondritis and knowing I have to live with this pain for my whole life is so upsetting
How do they label it as chronic?? I have had it for 4 months and doesn't go away smh I thought it went away but it just came back. I have a lump in my chest, it's not heart issues, I'm not sure if it's inflamed cartilage or a popped rib, I can't do anything not even work correctly..
I’m having it since I recovered from pneumothorax like 4 months ago. Bad posture during the recovery and bad posture while sleeping led me to costochondritis. I hear a pop whenever I lay up from the bed and cannot sleep on either sides. Incline pillow helps it a bit better. Try it guys. Wish you lot a speedy recovery.
Try backpod if you have not. You ahebto loosen the ribs and back ribs.
I just got diagnosed with Costo along with Pleurisy. I vaped for 3-4 years and stopped about 3 weeks ago. About 3 days after quitting vaping, the left side of my chest started hurting subtlety and then got worse over the course of a week. Finally, I went to the ER and they did an EKG along with blood work and a chest XRAY. To rule out any serious heart/lung related issues. Doc diagnosed it as Pleurisy and Costo....yaaaay! Its very painful. My pain is more under my armpit and spreads to my back. Ive had it for about 2 weeks now. We are on steroids and Nsaids but i dont think those are working. Im also a Plumber who does alot of physical labor and stuff. Age 34. It can be debilitating. But, we are alive my friends. And we will get through this. It could be worse.
Weird reading this because I’m the same age and was in hospital last week getting the same tests. Vaped for 4 years and gave up as soon as I felt the pain. Pain was a jolt at first and felt like a rubber band stretching on left side and under arm but now it’s in the centre. Off to docs tomorrow to see what they think. Are you finding it’s constant or does it ease off from time to time? I seem to get very sore in the evening unfortunately
@@m.y.4479 Any update?
Thank you much!
Thanks for the advice. I’m gonna give the back pod a try!😎👉👉
On this journey right now to figure out how to heal my costo which became onset out of nowhere this past summer of 2022. It can be quite debilitating and worrisome when it onsets. I get it on and off... when I am on my menstrual period, it just goes away. Have you ever heard of this, Samantha?
Today I got a massage from an RMT which helped a lot, as well as some yoga stretches. But overall im so bummed out because of the pain and worry :(
I am hoping i can heal this problem :( and really hoping i dont have an autoimmune disease. I have never had issues like this in my life... I take care of myself really well and going down this journey of trying to navigate the medical industry is daunting.
Me too! Honestly I’ve been dealing with it since November of 2022. I got it after accidentally popping my sternum while driving home and also hunching over that caused my ribs to flare up. Before this happened, my upper back was really stiff and it felt like I could not sit up straight anymore. I did not know what was going on and I just remembered popping my sternum while driving home and it was the most horrifying thing that happened because right after this happened, I suddenly started feeling pain all over my chest and I thought I was having a heart attack. I went to the hospital and it turned out I was diagnosed with costo. It went away for a few weeks but then suddenly creeped up again and was in pain and it was so hard for me to sleep because I was so anxious and scared about this. 3 weeks ago, My ribs felt like they were giving up on me because they felt so stiff, tender, and my upper back was just not having it. Then I did some research and found this back pod and honestly it really helped during the first week of trying it. I felt instant relief and felt my chest opening up and my ribs just loosening up a little bit. Now, it came back again after my ribs started to flare up from the muscle strain in between and it hurts. I’m so glad I found people like you who is dealing with this at the moment, because I just felt so alone. Don’t give up, we got this!
Hi
I dunno if you wanna try this but I had pretty much the same thing and I went to get it checked out because I freaked out a bit (chest pain is scary) but was only prescribed anti inflammatories as my heart was fine
But since I used them up I started using powdered turmeric/cinnamon or both in boiling water and used that as my anti inflammatory
And it does help
Anyway just an idea
Try not to worry ❤️
I know it can be scary
Thankyou for his video
Did you go to a chiro at all? How often did you use it everyday?
Thank you for sharing! It helps a lot...For me, all happened last september. I really thought it was a panic attack..., or something wrong with my heart. Went to all the doctors: heart, lung CT, Ekg, pulmonary function test, blood test, etc... could not find really nothing. They started telling me that it is all because of the stress in my life. then i started searching and that is how i found costo...finally :) i went to see a physical therapist and she sad costo after 2 minutes checking my chest, ribs...the hardest part for me is the problem with breathing...sometimes i have to yawn in order to get enougn . it feels like something is stoping my breathing...very bad experience...just trying to order the back pod. Thank you again...it is good ( i know it sounds odd :) ) to read these stories, not to feel alone....the doctors just didnt do anything with it....

Meanwhile, trying to use a tennis ball with my back and correct my posture all the time when it crosses my mind :) for me the breathing part is the worst...i can get scared because of it....the pain in my chest not that bad, and not the whole chest hurts, just a few spot next to my sternum and the get worst when i push them...my sister had it few years ago with the same symphtoms ( breathing problem, pain...) but it went away after a few months...Hope you get well really soon :)
@@hh-vb9gm thank you. Your sister's went away with no medication? Are you able to use your voice to communicate? Im having problem using my voice to communicate due to my breathing.

@@FreeAsAButterfly yes, my sister's went away with no medication. she went to see a chiropractor who is a doctor as well. she got treatment maybe 3 times...i just asked her about it yesterday, and she sad it was like somebody was sitting on her chest, difficulty with breathing...she blames the home office and the bad posture...
I have been struggling with it for 3 and a half years non stop. It was caused as a result from gymnastics and contortion. I currently use opioids to manage the pain (it’s the only medication I have found to work with pain relief) I use heat to ease the pain but find that cold makes it worse. I definitely think seeing a chiropractor and Phisio is very beneficial and doing exercise for costo can help but be careful not to overdo it as it can make it worse.

Something that’s helped me is massaging the painful area with coconut oil..works wonders
I had chest pain come out of nowhere. I did quite a bit of research and found that in my case it was deferred pain from my gallbladder. You can feel this pain across your chest, back, shoulder and up into your neck. I felt it mostly in my breastbone and around my heart. As soon as I started supporting my gallbladder, no more chest pain, back pain, shoulder pain... Hope this helps someone in pain! I read a lot of medical books, scientific studies and used Dr. Berg as a resource as well as consulting my own GP.
This sounds like my pain. What did you do to support your gallbladder? Did you take bile salts?
@@suemiller9506 I recommend watching some Dr. Berg here on UA-cam, he has quite a few suggestions. For immediate pain: castor oil packs with a hot pad, hot showers and lightly massaging. I played around with taking tudca and/or bile salts and making sure I'm hydrated. Also, gallbladder stagnation usually means supporting the liver, so a lot of the treatments or supplements go hand in hand. However in order to heal (cause I still don't know the root cause of why my gallbladder suddenly just started acting up) I've majorly adjusted my diet and am keeping a food diary: absolutely no processed food, nothing from a can or bag. Literally fruit, veggies, some nuts, rice and some occasional meat/fish. No sweets, no heavy meat meals, no dairy, no eggs, no baked goods and no teas, herbs or extra supplements... Stepping way back so my body can rest and heal. Lots of fasting. I'm also gluten free. It's boring AF to eat salad and apples every day but it's helping. Three big things I've heard can make the gallbladder sluggish: too much insulin, cortisol and estrogen. So reducing stress and figuring out what's going on in your body unique to you.
Yea, what exactly did you do to support your gallbladder? I can relate with that whole vaping thing....
I need to know it... Plz
@@MeoTys hi, I have a comment right above yours in this thread detailing all the things I tried. I hope you find healing soon!
How long do you lie on the backpod per session? Im doing a minute in first position, starting on the middle/upper spine, then move to the left, do upper and lower, then upper and lower on the right side too. So 5 positions, roughly 5 mins total. I’m on day 2 and it seems to be helping, but my back is sore from it… I don’t wanna overdo it, but also want it to be enough. So grateful for these videos, thank you and all the best to you :)
30-60 seconds in each spot. Remember if feels too hard on your bony spine, just put a towel over it to add some padding.
Also use enough pillows/cushions under your head to reduce the loading until you get used to it.
Do the exercises recommended by Steve August in the PDF. You need these to keep the spine mobile otherwise it'll seize up again.
And get a proper sports massage targeted on the tight areas
For me using the BackPod horizontally across my spine really helps - and holding that position for 1-3 minutes.
Good luck!
Have you been diagnosed with Pleurisy? My doc said I may have that as well as costochondritis. Lately I’ve been having pain in my left lung area (a feeling that you get when you have a cold/bronchitis). I’m not sick though. On top of that on and off pain I’m having the pains from the costochondritis. I don’t know anyone who has pleurisy so thought I’d ask here.
I have Pleurisy and I had it before COVID but it went away for about 2 years. Then I got covid and it came back along with Costo. Having these two things is really unfortunate. Nothing seems to help the pain.
I don't have any pain when breathing with mine it just flairs up when I wake up and when I move my left arm in certain way
Have costco after aspiration pneumonia. Thought I had a collapsed lung and ended up in A&E..It's been 4 months and it's just easing off a bit but still hurts. Have fibromyalgia and other autumn immune conditions so think I'm in it for the long haul!
I'm dealing with it right now on my right side. The first time was earlier this year on my left side... I thought the muscles were peeling off my chest wall😢. @Samantha, would a more supportive bra help? Kinesiology tape?
Mines was on my left for some years and now it is on the right side

Hello I’ve had costo for 3 months and I’ve been using the backpod for 3 days. I haven’t seen improvement but I was wondering if you ever used a tennis ball because I was using that for 3 weeks and it didn’t help at all. I was also wondering what is the last resort incase the backpod doesn’t work e.g. is there some sort of surgery.
Research boswellia
There no surgery for it
If it's caused by a tight mid/upper spine you'll need to free that off. And keep it free with exercises and a sports massage.
The inflammation is the result of muscles and ligaments tightening up and all working overtime so they get sore.
Ugh! Yes I have it too!
Have had costochondritis for a year plus - i have been to the ER way too many times because thinking this is a heart issue - doctors could not figure out what was going on and why i was in such pain. Finally, a chiropractor officially diagnosed me with costo late last year - had a ton of adjustments done and those did not do much for my pain unfortunately - i do stretching every morning and yoga - and that helps - but i continue to have chronic pain with this condition - who knows how long i will have it - would not wish the pain on my worst enemy. The back pod actually made my pain worse (yes - was using it correctly - even talked to the maker of it several times). So yeah, don't know where to go from here.

भवतः संस्कृतनाम किमर्थम्।
Hi. I bought the backpod about a month ago. THANKS for your videos.
I’m wondering if I even have costochondritis though because my story sounds different than anybody else’s
so I have costochondritis they say. My pain originated at my lovely dowagers hump back in October. By December anytime I laid down on my bed for longer than a half of an hour that dowagers hump area and my traps would start burning and tingling until I sat back up! The tingling has since stopped I’m not sure what made it stop but it’s no longer there. Occasionally my upper traps will feel tingly though.
The pain/stiffness then went on to my ribs the following weeks and my chest.
My scalene‘s are also jacked up and super tight especially on the right side not to mention my upper traps feel like they are constantly engaged!
My physical therapist has helped bring down my intense tight traps but my sternum still feels like it locks up and when I get down on the back part of it releases the locked feeling in my sternum. Poor if I push on my sternum I feel a pop in my upper back and then the tension is released.
Contemplating going to the chiropractor.
How is your Costcondritis doing so far now?
@@stephaniehamlet2474
Much better. I go to physical therapy and a chiropractor. I drink tons of water and eat less inflammatory foods. A couple of chiropractors argue that it’s probably not costochondritis that I’m dealing with but then others say that it probably is so I’m very confused. I still use the back pod and a regular basis. I can tell you I don’t have the squeezing pain anymore either and for that I am very thankful. I would suggest that anybody who is dealing with this get a back pod and also talk to multiple chiropractors and physical therapists to get their opinions.
@@stephaniegutierrez6222 that's real good glad you feeling better. Is your ribs still attached to your breastbone on the front ? The only part I have to work on now is my front and pectoralis muscle
@@stephaniehamlet2474
I still get random aches on the left side of my sternum where the left upper ribs attach a little above the breast but that may be due to tightness In my upper back. Also it’s a very good idea to correct posture. I didn’t know that my posture was getting bad but after many years of holding babies plus staring down at iPhones my posture has not been very good. My shoulders roll forward and I’m starting to get that little bump on the back of the neck. My chiropractor prescribed me some exercises to do and sent me home with a few stretching devices to fix that as well

My costo started on the 5th or 6th day after I tested positive for covid. It was excruciating and I really wasn't sure if I had pneumonia or something else. I perhaps started back to activities too quickly after covid-- not sure. But I was wondering why no one else described this as a symptom after covid. I never suffereed from the condition before covid, so I'm positive that is what precipitated it-- whether the coughing or the virus itself, I do not know.
Me too. But still, you need to focus on many of the things Samantha is suggesting. I just bought the Back Pod and am hoping that works.
I didn't really cough much during my 2nd infection, but I started cardio about a month after COVID and then this happened. Nothing else changed other than that pesky virus. It's mostly my right side but it spreads all across my chest. Going to try this device and hope for the best. It's like the right side of my chest is on fire. Very difficult to sleep. Made worse when laying down.

@@gjk3544 For me, not a chance. I had my first vaccine in 2021. Had Covid before that when vaccines weren't available. But Costo didn't start until after my 2nd covid infection in January of this year. I haven't had a booster in well over a year.

I received letter from medical consultant confirming my diagnosis of chronic Costochondritis 😊 After years and endless rounds of hospital visits - I’ve had 8 surgeries related to breast cancer and several serious complications with chronic left chest pains - other causes ruled out - I was able to diagnose myself as soon as i saw an illustration of Costochondritis! 😅 And then i see you all here : this is my pain, my condition and my people. 🫶 I’m enjoying something of a quiet period at the moment. One or two of my other chronic conditions prone to flaring are less responsive. I made one main change : a drink of lemon, honey and cider vinegar in warm water as first drink of the day for 30 days. 💛
I had a terrible injury that never healed.
The ONLY thing that helps is a hot pack and laying on a baseball.
It just hurts, not necessarily because I’m breathing.
That’s what I’m wondering. Because it just comes and goes for me. Like at night when sleeping I wake up in pain. Or just simply sitting and reading a book. Does this happen to you as well?
@@user-uo8ey6ce8p it hurts also when I eat certain things. I’m guessing there’s foods that trigger inflammation and foods that heal it. My pain comes and goes as well.

If there's lots of acid reflux it could be a hiatus hernia, and then you'd need to see a doctor.

DOES ANYONE HAVE LONG COVID?
I had long covid from March 2020, but I caught covid again Jan 2023 and developed Costo Feb-March 2023.
I just wanted to say that I’ve been having these issues too and I’m only 15 however my relationship with Jesus has made it better. Jesus a man who God the Father sent, died on the cross for all of our sins. He sacrificed His life for us so that we wouldn’t have to go to hell and sacrifice it ourselves. We all deserve hell bc a man and women, the first humans disobeyed God and God cursed the earth. No one is righteous not even one so we all deserve hell. But Jesus changed that. Repent turn to God and seek Him.
Prayer: Father God, I’m sorry for my sins. I’m a sinner and I need you. I confess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe it in my heart that You raised Him from the dead. Come into my life Lord and save me. Reveal to me Your love. Make me anew and change my life God. Thank You. In Jesus’ Name Amen
