Celtic Thunder MYTHOLOGY is the latest show from Celtic Thunder. Filmed on location at the Helix Theater in Dublin, it's fitting that Celtic Thunder have chosen to return to their roots in order to film this musical odyssey.
The core theme of Mythology is found in the original opening number "Voices", "Voices call from the old days, Voices tell from the past, Ancient laws and ancient old ways to recast." It's the story of the Celtic People, their legends, their culture and their stories. It's the lifeblood of modern day Celtic people everywhere and the influences from our Celtic past, which are still carried in each one of us as part of whom we are and where we come from. Voices, quoted above, is a collaboration between Celtic Thunder Musical Director/Composer David Munro and world-renowned song writer Brendan Graham, who also wrote the international hit "You Raise Me Up".
The set of Mythology is big; it's dramatic and imposing. The new and the old combine. Modern catalyst images are projected onto ancient monolithic standing stones, a giant Celtic cross takes center stage and the tempo of the music is strongly echoed in the theatrical and moody lighting.
Celtic Thunder Mythology - 'The Rocky Road To Dublin'
Chorus
Hunt the Hare and turn her down the rocky road
all the way to Dublin, Whack follol de rah!
Twas in the merry month of May, from me home I started,
Left the girls in Tuam, nearly broken hearted,
Saluted father dear, kissed me darling mother,
Drank a pint of beer, me grief and tears to smother,
Then off to reap the corn, leave where I was born
Cut a stout black thorn to banish ghosts and goblin;
Bought a pair of brogues, rattling o'er the bogs
And fright'ning all the dogs on the rocky road to Dublin.
One, two, three four, five
Chorus
Hunt the Hare and turn her down the rocky road
all the way to Dublin, Whack follol de rah!
In Mullingar that night I rested limbs so weary,
Started by daylight next morning blithe and early,
Took a drop of pure to keep me heart from sinking;
Thats a Paddy's cure whenever he's on drinking.
See the lassies smile, laughing all the while
At me curious style, 'twould set your heart a bubblin'
Asked me was I hired, wages I required,
I was almost tired of the rocky road to Dublin.
One, two, three four, five
Chorus
Hunt the Hare and turn her down the rocky road
all the way to Dublin, Whack follol de rah!
In Dublin next arrived, I thought it such a pity
To be soon deprived a view of that fine city.
So then I took a stroll, all among the quality;
Me bundle it was stole, all in a neat locality.
Something crossed me mind, when I looked behind,
No bundle could I find upon me stick a wobblin'
Enquiring for the rogue, they said me Connaught brogue
Wasn't much in vogue on the rocky road to Dublin.
One, two, three four, five
Chorus
Hunt the Hare and turn her down the rocky road
all the way to Dublin, Whack follol de rah!
From there I got away, me spirits never falling,
Landed on the quay, just as the ship was sailing.
The Captain at me roared, said that no room had he;
When I jumped aboard, a cabin found for Paddy.
Down among the pigs, played some hearty rigs,
Danced some hearty jigs, the water round me bubbling;
When off Holyhead I wished meself was dead,
Or better for instead on the rocky road to Dublin.
One, two, three four, five
Chorus
Hunt the Hare and turn her down the rocky road
all the way to Dublin, Whack follol de rah!
The boys of Liverpool, when we safely landed,
Called meself a fool, I could no longer stand it.
Blood began to boil, temper I was losing;
Poor old Erin's Isle they began abusing.
"Hurrah me soul" says I, me Shillelagh I let fly.
Some Galway boys were by, saw I was a hobble in,
With a load "Hurray !" joined in the affray.
We quickly cleared the way for the rocky road to Dublin.
One, two, three four, five
Chorus (x 2)
Hunt the Hare and turn her down the rocky road
all the way to Dublin, Whack follol de rah!
My four year old grandson and two year old granddaughter both LOVE this song. As soon as we get in the car, they start asking for the "Pirate Song." The two year old also adds, "1-2-3-4-5" so I'll be sure to know which pirate song she's talking about. Thank you for helping me increase their musical knowledge.
I love them. Beautiful voices.
I could listen to Celtic Thunder all day. Just plain" Awesome" .

This is one of me and my two younger siblings' favorites! My little sis (she's 11) always loves "The one that sounds like Pippin's part" (At least that's who she thinks Neil sounds like).
Love this and the lads. Can't wait to see live on the cruise...
can I just marry all of them?
George is still my favorite :-)
Does anybody know what Neil's necklace symbolizes? What is that sign called?
Wish I could like this!!
oh,my! :)
Reply to Irene van S: I also noticed that. I think it happened when they put the video together, taking parts of the song that were done at different performances. But your comment made me laugh !
love em! lets see if I can name em' all :Ryan , Neil, gorge, colm, emmet
*trinity knot! symbol of maiden/mother/crone or father/son/Holy Ghost (spirit)
Obviously this is a fighting song. and what Irishman doesn't like a good fight ? No wonder they sing it with such energy ! Look at the expression on Ryan and Emmet's faces.
it is a trinity knot i think
EMMET!!!! :D
i
It's called "triquetra" or trinity knot. It's commonly a symbol to represent the Holy Trinity (Father/Son/Holy Spirit). I first saw it on Charmed, to symbolize the "Power of Three."
I LOVE RYAN KELLY!!!!
LOVE it :-)
as my 5 year old neice says " it has her fav sexy george "
hahahaha
First time i've seen the new boys. Love this always have liked this song
