36:37 - Regarding the Squire (Mixed Card) According to the rulebook on page 1: "Mixed cards have both an immediate and a delayed effect. During the first activation, you place cubes on the card. On a subsequent activation, you can use the cubes to benefit from the card’s effect. It is impossible to place cubes and to use them during the same action."
Hey! Just wanted to say that I’m relatively new to the hobby and I’ve had my eye on this game for a bit now. I’m still learning a lot about board game mechanics and at first I couldn’t quite wrap my head around this one from the rule book. But your playthrough helped tremendously and finally made things click. Thanks a billion for this!
Great playthrough! If anyone is interested, the Medieval French pronunciation of the city of Troyes was very different from the modern Parisian bourgeois way that people are used to now. Before the modern period, Troyes was pronounced not like twah but trway.
This was great, thank you! I was having trouble wrapping my mind around how this game actually flows. It's not really intuitive if you only read the rules.
And I thought Welsh had some weird pronunciations. Thanks for this video... you're very good at putting everything into context, like how you are essentially bribing the other dice to work for you, which helps to understand things better. The rulebook alone was a bit too much for my tiny brain to cope with 😂
@@slickerdrips I'm glad I'm not the only one who names their fake other player, too 😂 although I usually go for Mark (as in, {me} Mk. 2). I was worried it was a sign of insanity.
wow great playthrough. I really like this game, never played it with more then 2. But i wanna try it with more to see how that plays. You did a great job and you even lost to marty! :)
Thanks Peter! Black Angel is supposed to come out this year, from the same designers and using a similar dice mechanism but now in space - worth looking out for :)
@@slickerdrips I know. I do love space, and it looks so pretty. So maybe I should just wait for that. If they are to similar I won't have room for both in my collection anyway :)
At 23:03, you say that the Monks event makes it so only one person can go to that activity card. Is that a special rule for that particular event? The rules say "If all the spaces [on an activity card] are occupied, a player can still place a tradesman on the card’s illustration, but it won’t earn any VPs at the end of the game."
@slickerdrips How did you get your playermats printed so nicely? Did you get this done at a print shop? They look to be too good quality that I could imagine this has been possible with a normal ink printer at home even with picture quality paper. Thank you very much! Btw such a pleasant play through!
Alright, that’s encouraging! :-) Your video has convinced me to buy the game, so once my copy arrives, I will also give the mats a try! Thanks for you fast response, have a great sunday afternoon - greetings from Vienna!
I love Troyes, definitely need to get it to the table again soon! Super playthrough Tom, thanks for doing the video. I'm digging your dice tray, where did you get it from?
26:56 "He's put the work in, he deserves it " That's very magnanimous of you, complimenting...yourself 😂 P.S are event VPs scored immediately or at the end of the game?
There is official solo support for Troyes now, if you download newest rules pdf from pearlgames.be/boardgame/troyes/, roll down to the bottom of the rules book, and you will find: The King’s Challenge Solo variant rules, by Shadi Torbey. Could you please make solo runtrough on your channel. Thanks for great videos.
I'd like to! If you add it to my request list here: boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/243109/all-new-slickerdrips-request-list and say you'd like a solo playthrough it'll go into my monthly votes and if it wins it gets filmed (that's why I did multiplayer Troyes too!)
The best playthrough of Troyes I've watched so far! Thanks!
Wonderful playthrough! I've been wishing to see Troyes played for some time. Thanks!
Instant thumbs up for playing through such a classic. Thanks Tom.
Great playthrough Tom! Really enjoyed it.
Great playthrough!!! Thanks for sharing Tom and Marty

Yes, I was shocked at 37:03 when active "squire" card by 3 cubes and then remove them.

Thank you, I’m glad I could help :)
Amazing playthrough, saw this in your top 50 videos and I can see why. The way the npc is used is quite clever. Thanks as always!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Very helpful to see this game in action! Looks fascinating. I have it on order and am really looking forward to playing
I echo other people's comments, the best playthrough of Troyes out there. Good job!
Thank you so much for this great playthrough - it will definitely make our first game much easier!
Thanks! Hope you enjoy the game too :D

Thank you for this video. So helpful.
I love to learn the rules while watching game played.
This is excelllent. Really helps in understanding the game.

I should have continued that only one more person can go there and earn points - it's clarified in the subtitles though :)
@slickerdrips Oops, sorry! Could have sworn I had the subtitles on. Great runthrough as always though!
Really useful, thanks.
52:25 'now he has got 4 [in the city hall]' quick count and I see only 3
I was confused by that also, but Marty's secret card is counting workers on city hall AND on yellow cards
Awesome!!!
Very good explanation how to play the game.
Thanks Peter!

Thanks 😊 it really is just on a cheap epson inkjet printer, I think I probably put the quality setting as high as it would go

Super playthrough Tom, thanks for doing the video.
I'm digging your dice tray, where did you get it from?
Thanks Iain! The dice trays are from NiceThat on Etsy, I love them www.etsy.com/uk/shop/NiceThat
Could you post a link to those player mats?
Can't seem to find them on BGG
Nevermind. Found them
In a two player game you start with all 6 citizens in your personal supply. So you never have to pay influence to use them.
Oh, no. I misunderstood the setup rules. You were right.
love love LOVE your dice tray! May I ask where did you get it?
Thanks, me too 😀 I buy them from NiceThat on Etsy, dicebags.co.uk
You made me go and buy this one. :)
Great playtrough for a great game.
Question tough, what have you used to print those playmats?
It would have just been a cheap inkjet printer on some card :)
Best modern euro.

😀 you get them when the cards filled up I think
Can you play this Solo?
Yes, there is an official solo variant
Old School
2:39 you suck at counting :)
EDIT: Ahh now I know why. The audio is out of sync.
at 48 minutes marty shouldve paid 6 coins to you because the action used 3 red dice
Good catch! Note added. Thanks!
@@theercs But didn't he use one of his cubes from the Chief Templar card to buy a red dice for only 2 coins?
