About Luang Por Sumedho (Phra Raja Sumedhajahn):
After ordaining at the age of 30, Ajahn Sumedho was to be the first western disciple of Luang Por Chah in Wat Nong Pah Pong, Ubon, in North Eastern Thailand. In 1975 Luang Por Chah sent him to a nearby village, Bahn Bung Wai, to establish Wat Pah Nanachat, a monastery that english speaking people could go to in order to study Buddhism and ordain. Two years later, upon the invitation of George Sharp and the English Sangha Trust, Luang Por Chah asked Ajahn Sumedho to go to London. A small but growing community was to spend two years in the Hampstead Vihāra, before moving to West Sussex, to found Chithurst Monastery. Under Ajahn Sumedho's guidance, the community grew steadily. Ajahn Sumedho helped found a number of branch monasteries over the years, both in England and abroad, in countries such as Italy, Switzerland, New-Zealand, U.S.A, Canada,... A few years after living in Chithurst Monastery, he himself moved to establish Amaravati Buddhist Monastery, in Hertfordshire. He lived altogether 34 years in England, travelling regularly back to Thailand to keep in touch with the Sangha there, and all over the world, spreading the Buddha's Teaching.
Having retired from his position as the abbot of Amaravati Buddhist Monastery, Luang Por Sumedho has been living for the last eight years in Wat Pah Ratanawan, in Central Thailand. He is now 84 years old, and still makes himself available according to his ability for teaching and encouraging people's interest in the Dhamma.

How does someone of his age, who has had recent health problems, manage to give such an elegant, fresh talk that is so poignant and heartfelt? I have listened to a lot of his talks and this one seems to have very little repetition. His eyes are beaming. A beautiful human being who exemplifies the the results of practicing the Buddha's teachings. Sadhu sadhu sadhu.
He is a beautiful 1,000 petalled Lotus blooming. I am blessed to hear him 🙏
Sadhu sadhu sadhu
I lived with him in 2004 at Amaravati and I have precious memories of our one on one conversations.
.... a great blessing - to have spoken with him personally.
Happy birthday, dear Ajahn Sumedho, today, 2019-July-27.
I enjoy and learn so much from your talks on UA-cam. Thank you for your compassion.

Luang Por , you are our Mother, Father and the very best Teacher, your way of teaching this Dhamma is simple for anyone who is fortunate to realise in this lifetime.
Wishing you wellbeing,
With the highest gratitude Luang Por👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Luong Por, Underscoring the comment by Shanthi De Fonseka, you have been such a blessing to me in your teaching style. When you “point at the moon”, most of the time I see the “moon” where I used to stare at the finger. It was like me try to point to a treat for my dog that’s fallen to the ground. She just follows my hand around until I pick up the treat. Only then does she see it. I’ve probably made many a teacher shake their head because they’d point at some truth only for me to watch for a magic treat from their finger. But when I hear you describe that at which you point it comes together and I look beyond the “finger” and behold the “moon”. Thus I (conventional use) have grown in the Dhamma because of your patience and perseverance in teaching me and all my brothers and sisters.
Of course, you don’t seem to mind that on UA-cam, we can have you repeat a lesson dozens of times without having to actually trouble you. Though this doesn’t diminish my thankfulness to you and to BIA for putting these online.
May you have as healthy and long a life as you wish.
May your life be happy without the causes of suffering to hinder you.
And may peace surround your body, mind and citta (heart).
Lastly, when you decide the time is right may Nirvana be your next great adventure.
Sadhu! Sadhu! Sadhu!
Ajahn Sumedho's teachings are so relevant and needed right now. Thanks for posting.
Thank you for becoming a monk so that you give us Dharma talk. This help us to understand Buddhism better n practice the way. Just reading by myself, I can’t have insight. With you explaining this in a simple way, it helps me to see things as they are n free myself from distraction n suffering. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
