Congratulations Brian. Not sure I've ever seen anyone so happy and excited about anything before- awesome. Your lessons are great thank you for everything you do in teaching guitar.
Brian, congrats on your new guitar! It looks lovely and I think it's got the size of a 339, certainly smaller than a 335. Also, I really appreciated your statement about really using the guitar -and not just keeping it somewhere in your house!! That's the right way to pay respect to Eric (I'm a huge fan too...) and to his music. And, oh... thank you for your extraordinary work here. That means so much to my guitar playing.
That guitar is a work of art. A work of art that can produce more works of art by you and inspire others. Congratulations on something that most could only dream of owning. I look forward to seeing you both on Active Melody.
OMG!!!! I am a big fan of almighty Eric Clapton and I wish I could even touch his instrument, Good for you Brian! You are so lucky to have the chance to own Eric's guitar.Congratulation and enjoy it!
Hank Garland: an historic jazz player, whose famous "Jazz Winds.." set the jazz world on its ears when it was released. MONSTER jazz chops from a Nashville country player.
Like you, I have been a Clapton fan all of my life, (30 years on, I've nearly got Hideaway :) ), as an AM premium member I love the Clapton influenced lessons so it is so pleasing to learn that my coach is using Eric's very own former instrument. Congratulations, I look forward to seeing it and yourself in upcoming lessons.
Wow, that is so cool. I love Byrdlands, but I'll never be able to afford one. That is a beautiful guitar you have. Looking forward to hearing it in your lessons., Congrats on a great add to your collection
This is so awesome, Brian- very happy for you that you were able to pull this off! Of course this must now mean that you are going to take my suggestion of a "Clapton course" highlighting his Yardbirds, Bluesbreakers, Cream, BF, Derek, solo career very seriously... I can't wait :-)
Congrats Brian! music lovers have to do it! It's a gift that we deserve! I recently acquire a pedal autographed by Steve Vai and I love to have it! Clapton is a genious and historical guitar player! Great Great acquisition Brian!
Hey Brian Congratulations on the EC Byrdland.I always liked the shorter scale but couldn't afford a Gibson or contemplate paying what that must have cost you because of the provenance.Luckily in 2008 I did manage to buy an Epiphone Elitist Byrdland before they stopped production. No easy feat living in Scotland I can tell you.Can you satisfy my curiosity as to what string gauges were on the guitar when you bought it ,if you'll stick with them and are they roundwound or flatwounds?
Brian,Congratulations on your new guitar. Great guitar on its own. The fact that Clapton owned it is a super bonus. You probably had to get 2nd mortgage to afford it. I particularly liked how enthused you were demoing it. Also, it's super that you are going to play it regularly. To put it away as a collector's item would be a shame. ENJOY, I did just looking at it & watching you like a little kid getting his favorite toy for Christmas. Bill
Hi Brian. I noticed the guitar right away. I thought whoa... that's a lot of bling. You're gonna have to wear a suit coat and tie with that guitar. Congratulations! I really enjoy the lessons and the tone effects you demo a long with your lessons. Simple but they sound awesome. Thanks!
If that's the EH6771 Gibson Byrdland custom it sold for $30,000 if I'm not mistaken! Very cool Christmas present! Thanks for the video and sharing this truly awesome guitar with us EC fans what a treat Brian!
Really cool guitar, Brian. Most of those guitars will end up locked away in a private collection, so I think Clapton would be happy to know that this one will be shared and used to teach the blues to others. Maybe you can use it for a Ted Nugget lesson or two, as well. Actually, on second thought...
If the neck is slightly shorter than a Super V or Super 400 , do you put heavier gauge strings on it? I cant afford such a guitar, but I have a Washburn copy that plays just as well with a beautiful sound and it has a mahogany block inside to prevent feedback.
Congrats on the guitar! Awesome self-gift. Byrdland's have a short scale neck, which is great for playing slide. In fact, Clapton always plays "It hurts me too" (Elmore James) with Byrdland's, for example: Live in Hyde Park, 1997 (DVD). By the way, if you wear a jacket, the finish will be untouched. Nitro finish is like that in any Gibson. I have a little Gibson L-1 practice acoustic that is totally smudged, which is fine and looks cool. I hope Clapton keeps playing although he apparently retired. Bluesmen don't retire. :) I hope he's doing well. I subscribed yesterday and what a nice surprise.
What an awesome guitar and exciting story behind it. I'm happy with you, you deserve it. But I'm interested in your other gear too, even if it's not so exclusive. How about showing your other guitars and telling us how and why you got it?
A nice guitar. Several years ago I had a longing to buy the Gibson Byrdland guitar. I had a love (and still do to some extent) for semi hollows like the Gibson ES 335 and 175. These days I prefer the Telecaster and the Stratocaster guitar though I'd love to have a Gibson ES 335 in my collection.
Surprised you didn't mention the Byrdland's salient feature, which is its shorter scale ( or maybe you do..I haven't finished the video yet.... ;-) ) Congratulations!
Brian: You picked on my brand new Honda Accord EX-L Hybrid!!!?? Kidding!! There's a "sound" reason why these things sell for considerably more than knock offs.........I've told you how much I now regret passing on that local dude here in Dallas who was trying to sell me his deceased dad's 1968 Gibson Byrdland for $3,500 and this video really makes me regret it big time!! Nice to discover Eric loved super guitars even beyond Stratocasters, Les Pauls or ES 335 guitars!! Jim C.
Now Brian will be driving the 10 year old Camry for the foreseeable future. lol I hope the guitar didn't loose 10% of its value driving out of the lot.
Can you satisfy my curiosity as to what string gauges were on the guitar when you bought it and if you'll stick with them and are they roundwound or flatwounds?
BUT!... Your Gibson Les Paul Studio sounds by far better! Last not least- you can't play this outdated JAZZ Guitar, because you will have to FIGHT with it.
Dear Brian, I really appreciate you as a teacher, but this is a total bullshit. First, you always encourage your followers to use any kind of guitars, no matter which, and that anyone could get a good sound from any guitar, and now you come out teaching with a, theorically,, quite expensive thing, theorically. Second, it's quite clear from your tryout that guitar doesn't sound special at all, your 335 is still much more impressive. And you know that very well, cause you're not that kind of teacher. So what is so great on that? Finally, it's also clear that it's a marketing move from Gibson, it's definitely clear. And since the real Clapton's guitar will always be the Strat, even if it should really have belonged to Eric, to me it's definitely not important. I dare to write this cause I believe you're really good in what you do, so you should get quickly back to your normal dimension, a guy good enough to teach everything with any guitar. Best!
BLACKBEAR MUSIC INTERNATIONAL Don't sound off like a jealous Bitch!! Everyone would rather have the Brown Strat, but this is still History & a great family hand me down!!
Trust me, this wasn't a marketing move. It's just a dream come true. And as I stated above he signed on to drive the 10 year old Camry for many more years ;-)
Why be such a downer man? I can assure you it's not a marketing move from Gibson at all - i have ZERO loyalty to GIbson or any brand for that matter. I purchased this because I'm a big fan and I have an online audience that I wanted to share it with. Also, I still encourage people to play with whatever instrument they have - In no place in the video to I encourage people to buy a Gibson Byrdland or an Eric Clapton guitar. I was just sharing.
Congratulations Brian. Not sure I've ever seen anyone so happy and excited about anything before- awesome. Your lessons are great thank you for everything you do in teaching guitar.
I read about that sale...Never realized that you could be one of the buyers! Congratulations!!
Congratulations Brian! Well deserved.
Brian, congrats on your new guitar! It looks lovely and I think it's got the size of a 339, certainly smaller than a 335. I can truly tell how happy you are! Congrats on the guitar!
congrats Brian ! this beauty came in the right hands. I wish you hours of great playing on it and look forward to all your great lessons.

Life is good! Great find Brian, you deserve it!
Hank Garland: an historic jazz player, whose famous "Jazz Winds.." set the jazz world on its ears when it was released. MONSTER jazz chops from a Nashville country player.
Gorgeous guitar and it is fitting it went to you, Brian. Looking forward to hearing the music you create with it.
Nice score Brian! Congrats and enjoy the heck out of it! Thanks for all the lessons and hope you and yours have a great holiday season!

nice buy!!! seen him in the 80's he is awesome. merry christmas
I'm glad it is in the hands of a player.
Holy Crap! That's Awesome. You're keeping your cool explaining the guitar. If I had Clapton's guitar, I'd be freaking out.
Trust me, he was.
Hi Brian. Congratulations on your brilliant guitar! I hope you have a lot of fun with it. just as I enjoy your great lessons !!
Wonderful guitar, superb story! Congratz, Brian!
Awesome upload Brian. Hope to see many more Clapton inspired lessons on this beaut!
Congratulations, Brian, I'm happy for you!
That’s awesome, Brian! Congratulations.
Great find. Congrats!! Looking forward to the lessons that the two of you will provide.

If that's the EH6771 Gibson Byrdland custom it sold for $30,000 if I'm not mistaken! Very cool Christmas present! Thanks for the video and sharing this truly awesome guitar with us EC fans what a treat Brian!
Wow he paid an extra $23k over a regular one of these because it was Eric Clapton's. : /
Really cool guitar, Brian. Most of those guitars will end up locked away in a private collection, so I think Clapton would be happy to know that this one will be shared and used to teach the blues to others.
Maybe you can use it for a Ted Nugget lesson or two, as well. Actually, on second thought...
Merry Christmas to you Brian. Happy for you on your great "investment".

Congrats on the guitar. I heard about him selling some of his guitars. Clapton also used a Byrdland in the Concert for Bangladesh
very cool! congrats on scoring this Beauty !!
good for you....you must be proud...love your lessons to....all the very best
What an awesome guitar and exciting story behind it. I'm happy with you, you deserve it. But I'm interested in your other gear too, even if it's not so exclusive. How about showing your other guitars and telling us how and why you got it?
Beautiful guitar. What settings did you have blues junior on?
Beautiful. I have a 335 that was custom made for me, navy blue,in ,I believe 1964. Real easy playing.
Very cool, congrats man!
Also, I hope the last bit is a preview of a future lesson.
Beautiful. Wish you luck with it..
Nice looking guitar,
Eric and I share the same birthdate.
I thought I'd add a bit of trivia.
Peace from Australia.

Great to see you just jam as opposed to teaching all the time :) good video
that guitar is B E A UTIFUL great vid 🖒
Brian, you are a lucky man,
love this wine red !! nice gear !! lucky you ;)
Congrats man
Cool. To me that will always be the Ted Nugent guitar as that's my first experience in seeing one. Nice pickup :)
ArielsSmartyPants 25 Byrdlands in the current Arsenal. Some dating back to the early 60's ridiculously fun to play !
Same here it's always a Ted Nugent guitar 🎸 to me
Me too. I don't think any other guitarist can be associated with the Birdland like uncle ted.
Surprised you didn't mention the Byrdland's salient feature, which is its shorter scale ( or maybe you do..I haven't finished the video yet.... ;-) ) Congratulations!
Michael L. Castle good point- I missed that!
Awesome! I love your lessons do you still have this guitar?
I do
@@activemelody Man thats so awesome Eric is one of my favorite players and your my favorite teacher thanks for all you do man!

Nance got the new Honda because I got the 1964 Fender Stratocaster........ask Brian!! All's fair I guess!!:>)Jim C.
And give up the minivan? lol
How much? Priceless :)
Can you satisfy my curiosity as to what string gauges were on the guitar
when you bought it and if you'll stick with them and are they roundwound
or flatwounds?
Flatwounds. I'll probably stick with them for that guitar. I prefer flatwound on a hollow body guitar anyway. Those were the strings that came on it.
What guage were they.?
10 gauge I believe.
Thanks Brian much appreciated.10's on a 23.5" scale that's light.Might give it a try on my own Byrd.
Hi Brian, where can I buy your T Shirt, "" Super Active"".!!!!!
I notice Clapton played it with no strap........Are you going to install lugs on this?
No, going to leave it as is
Would love a lesson in this style, if possible
can u do a tutorial for whipping post by allman brothers band
Awesomeness
Cool. Congrats
veeeeery nice, good investment !
Very, very, cool but let's talk turkey Brian how much ? 💰💰💰💰🤑
Gerald Brown $30k maybe :)
Double wow!
Awesome!
IF I could afford a Byrdland I would prefer the version Nugent plays, the sharper undercut. I sure wouldn't say no to that one if it was a present ;-)
I was going to make a sarcastic comment about that amazing guitar needing a better am than a blues jr., but it sounded great.
Brian's in love.
I'm a bit jealous of it and the puppy. His affections are going elsewhere.
Nice one. Wish your health to wear it.
Sweet!
WOULD YA TAKE $2500. FOR IT ?
I want one.
very nice ,,,,,
Wow!
Cool
its a very expensive guitar also if it have not been Eric C s guitar
So was it over $10,000 😝
I have a blonde one and it is really nice. Andy
No way :)
