I absolutely adore my Maybach Lester 72. I also have a LP Supreme, which has now been relegated to its case.
Another great video, fab playing from Sam as ever.
Great comparisons Sam and the personal observations all very helpful. Cheers, Ky 👍
Thanks again Ky!
Nice one Sam, excellent comparison and playing.
Thank you!
A.
I really like the Maybach.
The Les Paul sounds great anyway, there's no question about that.
But it doesn't sound like *+$5,000* extra.
Wow! I preferred the Maybach tones and got all 3 blind tests wrong!
Funnily enough, I'm considering one of these, in lemon drop finish, rather than the Gibson custom shop 59
I bought a Maybach Lester Honey Pie with a gorgeous flame top with very subtle checking they’re great guitars the pickups are exceptional.
It’s basically Gibson Custom Shop quality for Standard price. Admittedly the Gibson will hold its value a bit better but I don’t buy guitars to sell on especially if they’re of such high quality.
I do own a couple of Gibsons as well a Studio white Les Paul signed by Steve Jones and an original 59 Melody Maker
One interesting comparison would be with the same pickups. That would really show the acoustic properties of each guitar.
I guessed that B was the Gibson, the other day in the short video
I still have the ear.
I made a comparison with more gain on my chanel between the Maybach and my '73 LP Custom
My capitol 59 is almost 44mm at the nut! I think 42mm would be nicer, the neck is thick too so it's a big neck! I have adjusted to it, and the rigidity and tone is not to be messed with, but I would advice you to try one before deciding, if possible. Anyone know if the B.B. King Lucille is that wide also?
I just found out about this brand, I actually cannot believe they haven't been sued yet lol. Been looking at their SG look alike, seems like a killer deal
Sam, which one would you pick? The Eastman SB59 or the Lester 59? Thanks for the great video!
Sam say's its extremely close, but the Eastman just about wins for him! It's all subjective of course :)
@@GuitarVillageFarnham I really appreciate your response. Thanks!
People have held Gibson to a standard higher than they actually are in reality and are priced MUCH HIGHER (2-3 times) than better made guitars! Thanks for sharing!
Interesting, in each case I preferred the sound of the B guitar which was the ‘original’ as it happened.
Likewise
The Gibson's do sound great!
But do they Sound 2 TO 3 times Better, which is the Price Difference?!?!😂🤣😂
@@seamusbrowne4909 to in the gibson at least yeah ti did lol
EXCELLENT.
I am sorry to say that I preferred the counterparts on all three comparisons. To me they sound more "open"
LP only
I would love one but not paying 500 dollars in import fee's. I'm a Bill Nash guy.
I preferred the sound of b in the first test, which was exactly what I was looking for: maybach vs gibson murphy lab; the question is: how will tgw maybach sound with the gibson pickups?
Me too but (splitting hairs, here) it's possible the brightness that I liked came from the fact that Sam was moving to more open chords near the nut when he switched to the Gibson 😀I also felt the Maybach was a little 'darker' even slightly 'murkier' on the Tele comparison as well, 335 pretty much equal. I'd love to get my hands on a Maybach Lester but unlikely here in HK . . . my main guitar is a 1968 LP Custom but always open to trying something a bit different and the quality vs. price point on the Maybach is certainly appealing!
Thinking the same factories in Asia are used by Harley Benton guitars distributed by Thomann but also Maybach Guitars.
Maybach is actually a german company that has its production in the Czech Republic.
It might be a very small thing, but three screw trusrod covers always look wrong on quality guitars, I know it's a cheaper manufacturing process, but I just don't like it
Unfortunately the Gibsons sound much better having a way better balance of the frequency spectrum.
dat kan je beter later in de video. niet aan het beging.
I don’t know if it was the amp or the pickups, but every single tone sounded annoyingly fizzy.
UA-cam unsubbed me from the channel. Bloody irritating!
How strange! We hope you resubscribed!!!
They are expensive. What is the point??
Sorry no you definitely hear rhe difference in treble on all the original ones
A Gibson will hold value. The Fender too. The Maybach won't.
But like he said in the video, you pay 2 or 3 times as much for the Gibson or Fender. And these modern Gibson's and Fenders aren't future classics, people want the old ones. And personally I buy a guitar to play. Maybach make very very nice guitars, if you are a player they are very compelling. He's comparing Maybach with Fender Custom Shop and Murphy Labs Gibson's, the price difference is substantial but the difference in quality isn't. Gibson especially are a bit of a con when it comes to price.
They might not hold value but you won't lose much and save a lot compared to buying a Gibson, so who cares
Then just get a used one that already lost it's value, even better bargain :)
yes simply because people are sheep and go for the name rather than the quality of the instrument- I spent an afternoon trying thinline teles, teles etc and ended up buying the maybach just because it had a far superior sound and much better quality/price ratio. If people used those parameters today the market place would be very different.
While i agree that re sold it won't be that valuable, i got one a year ago and yeah. No plans of selling it any time.
Top on the maybach looks like a cheap epiohone
