Hey guys! In this video we finish the restoration my the NEW fibreglass boat project! This is probably my biggest project ever as we had to redo the transom, stringer, floor, as well as all of the usual painting and fit out work!

I would say that if you are going to put a top cap back on make sure you glue it on with thickened resin, not just rivets.

All in all a very nice job you did restoring the boat Matt. A stunning little runabout. Although l think the 30 HP might struggle to get it on plane only just with one person on. A 50 to 65 would be a much better choice. The joint at the gunnel will almost certainly crack at thefillngin future even though you got the layers on the inside. I would grind a long v both sides of the cut and then join it with the glass. The holes in the splash bay for the engine mounts will let water into the boat especially when slowing down fast. But enough said, keep up with the awesome jobs you are tackling.
I use Dow Corning 795 structural caulking we use it in boston to seal windows I think it holds 500 pounds per square inch it’s waterproof and is just like caulking

Awesome work my guy. You do the same style of building as we do in the Pacific north west .commercial built boats . Only thing we do differently is add 1 player of 1708 cloth to the top of the deck , completely sealing the top. Your boat is built overkill for what you need tho and that's bad ass haha

Where did you get your gunnel rubber from?
You should get an old used console from a Boston whaler. Tiller steering wares me out and takes the fun out of cruising for me anyway. You have electric start, it would be a shame not to have a console.
depends on how far you go a tiller ext (pvc pipe) stand and deliver system worked for me :)
Use a fibreglass roller to get the air bubbles out of the glass.

You should glass the outside of the cut to, so it prevents the filer and the paint from cracking in the future.
Where did you get your rub rail? Which type did you use? I'm trying to restore a boat in the US and need help with finding the right rub rail.

My 88 Evinrude 25hp 2 stroke and came with electric start.
Awesome job so far!! I just put my project boat 'away' for the winter, as we are expecting our first snowfall tonight as matter of fact. Gonna be spending the next 4 or 5 months chomping at the bit to start working on her again, but with one major design change...we're converting her to a half cabin! Question: is a 30hp going to be enough power to get your boat up on plane and moving? Mine is not much bigger than yours and I was told no less than 60hp by a reputable marine mechanic. I love how your paint came out. I hope mine is just as smooth. Good luck in completion and see you in the next one.
Size/weight makes a lot of difference in this sized boat. I don't 100% know how this one is going to go, but I only had a 50hp on my 4.5m half cabin and that really got up and had plenty of power. This boat is 3.6m and I'd estimate a good couple of hundred kgs lighter, so I'm very optimistic about the 30. Time will tell though! My first restoration that I did was almost identical in size as this one and the 25hp that I had then was plenty of power, so this one should plane with ease. I'll tell you what, if you're painting it yourself, look up a few videos of people doing the 'roll and tip' process. I don't have the space (or appetite for cleaning) that you need with spraying, and I couldn't believe how well roll and tipping worked out! Thanks so much for the comment!

Gday mate i have recently subscribed to your channel and watched all of the videos in this restore ,wow you had your work cut out when i saw that transom on my second resto i replaced the transom in the haines hunter v146 but it was no where near as bad as yours what i did what laminated two peices of 16 mm structural ply together with glass in the centre and glassed all of it overkill but one strong transom probably didn't need to be done but did it anyway . I was amazed you didn't use a roller to apply the paint i follow boatworks as well and watched him use a roller on the little sailing boat turned out well . My latest project is a 1980 gannet have rebuilt the engine and am now starting on the hull filling holes making new ones for electronics the transom seemed ok but your scaring me now really dont want to do another one but if it has to be done well its itchy scratchy time great job take care .
You need to grind back and glass the top side of where the deck was cut as well otherwise when the boat flexes the top will crack. I have just completed a similar project and this happened to me.
I build comercial fishing boats in the pnw and this will definitely not crack. Iv stacked 14 crab pots onto a 14x7 boat and the pots where 38x11" comercial pots with the same setup he has and nothing cracked.
@@Allthewayfromtherez i did the same thing as he has done, mine cracked where the deck was cut. Was then told by a boat builder to glass the top side. But if it has worked for you this way it may be ok.
I think this is correct. The cut is definitely a weak spot that will probably crack. It can be repaired when it does so not the end of the world,
One thing I would of loved to see is how you bolt things to the floor, seats etc
I think you should have made the floor removable. Just so you could pull it out and inspect under the floor from time to time.

Why are boats done so sloppy? No offense to this build at all you’ve done a good job, but as a classic car collector boats make me cringe!! Why isn’t it a standard to get sharp lines and smooth surfaces in boating?
Bit dangerous sealing access to the hull off bud . Least have an inspection lid and bilge pump under there .

Next time you apply "peanut butter" around the perimeter use a 1 gallon or 1 quart ziploc bag. You can fill the bag and just snip off one corner. You then can "caulk" the peanut butter into the corners so much more quickly. I saw this from JMINK on youtube. Here is the link to the specific video. Honestly I’m not sure. It’s got to be a few thousand dollars once you look at ply, glass, matting, the hull, paint, etc. I might do the maths one day soon!

Brother I hate to pop your balloon but that is not the way to repair stringers and floor! The stringers should be glassed to the hull. Nobody leaves bear wood stringers any more. Further most people don’t use wood any more. Wood is too heavy. Coosa board is the new material for floors and stringers. It’s lighter, stronger, and it never rots. Coosa is glassed in like the wood should be.
