HL2 in Source 2 would be amazing.
What a great remaster it would be with updated graphics/textures, assets to match, and original guns and gravity gun remastered with the visuals of Source 2 engine that made HL:Alyx so great to look at...I just wish Alyx had a faster pace to it, but I get it why it didn't.
@@SpaceDust_97the reason why Hla has a slow pace is because 1, they wanted as many people as possible to be able to play it so it had to be designed with teleporting in mind at priority but also be able to have walking. Second, they wanted people to take in the environments and look around, if you just run and only do the puzzles and not look for anything the game is way shorter.

HL: Alyx is the VR-gift that keeps on giving. The modding community is absolutely fantastic!
And all without the modding tools for Alyx that Valve promised so long ago...
Watching these just shows me how spot on valve were on the original source engine. Crazy to think of that E3 demo back in 2003.
I still remember watching that opening cutscene with G-man, and I was blown away you could see his pores. That was insane at the time

Unfortunately most of the 'in-game' footage in HL2 at E3 were mostly heavily scripted sections of the game, the most important example is the one in ravenholm.

I wished Valve continued to develop their tools until we had a open VR-development platform surrounding the Source2-engine, complete with asset a store where people could post/sell interactive objects, weapons, shaders and various kind of systems etc. Imagine how VR development could blow up. I mean, to this day, the tech that Valve put into Half Life Alyx is still the best in the industry. (physics, animation, performance, image quality, spatial audio) offering the best immersive experience within the industy. Just imagine what could happen if people collaborated under one and the same platform.

Man I would love to run through all of HL2 (and 1 for that matter) with Alyx's weapons and gravity gloves. The guns and gloves are so tactile and satisfying to use, they really nailed the feel of it... just wish there were a few more guns, but I guess that's what mods are for!

I think Half-Life 2 RTX will be our best bet for getting the whole experience with updated graphics.

Great video! These look super cool, but without the faster pace, frantic feel of HL2, I doubt I'd get into them.

Seeing this just makes me think Valve should make true on their promise already and fully release Source 2. It's such a gorgeous looking engine.
I just recently found your channel so not sure if you covered it already, but "The Undertow" is a brilliant 40-60 mins mod for HL:A. There's a very well-done trailer on YT woth checking out!
We got cs2 now its really possible that hl3 might be a thing in source 2 engine for vr and normal players since hl alyx only did good in vr
I had more fun playing HL2 vr than alyx. it was like playing hl2 for the first time again.
Not surprising, it's a fundamentally better game.
I had more fun playing Half-Life 1 than I did 2. Doesn't mean they aren't all fantastic entries.

Hot Take but i always thought HL Alyx just..exists, as in it doesn't bring anything new or important to the lore and is one of those games where you can skip it completely as that's how useless it is.

I like to imagine that one of the big reasons valve hasn't made many new games and IPs for a while is due to them working on source 2 development (as well as tech & steam support alongside minor updates for tf2, l4d, csgo, etc.) So I won't be very surprised if in a couple years they suddenly started cranking out way more new masterpieces of games with new IPs.
actually hla was what allowed them to progress. A documentry somone made showed that valve just cancelled a lot of games because source 2 wasnt finished. Everyone was too lazy to finish it except fir hla. that magically motivated them to complete source 2
@Derpynewb that's also part of the reason why they canceled episode 3, because the team couldn't agree on whether to use source 1 or 2, to do desktop or vr, etc. Still excited to see what valve potentially has planned once they've gotten the engine in a more complete state :)

Yep i definitely recommend, recently finished hl2 and episode 2 in VR and it's definitely an amazing VR port
The biggest issue I have with all of these video game lighting effects is that it's the lighting effects you would see if you were filming that area, not if you were actually there in real life. Like my eyes don't have a 🦆ing lens flare.

All valve has to do is make HL1 and HL2 in VR with updated graphics and they will break steam for an entire month.

Because remakes are a cancer, HL2 looks and plays gorgeously even today, and devs' time is better put into creating NEW video games instead.

if you look at cs2 you can kinda tell what half life3 could look like. volumetric destruction being one of them.
the only reason we haven't seen half life3 yet is because there were no new technical advances made until now.
something as simple as shooting real holes into objects will blow peoples minds. i still remember ubisofts first division game demo had this and everyone was amazed but it turned out to be all fake.
imagine altering sandy terrain and then using water to connect two electric points to open up a gate or something. this is the type of physics half life3 needs and it should technically be possible. i mean this is already possible even 30 years ago but with clever tricks kinda weird no one has done it before.
i bet objects like barrels will carry volumetric gasses and liquids to be used in combat or to solve puzzles with.
or a level completely coated in volumetric gas similar to that one level in alyx with all the barrels but this time its a visible gas. what i really want to see is fire burning something away.
i bet valve wants to replace everything with volumetric effects so their games can be played in both vr and flatscreen without them having to make too many changes. i also feel like people are perfectly fine with counterstrike2's graphical fidelity and you can get 600fps with a high end rig in that game so they could really go all out with more complex physics. i swear some locations on inferno look like real life and this game doesn't even use real time path tracing like the small entrance in T spawn those dumpsters look so good.
you know what they should really bring back and most people don't know about this or either forgot the portal2 sixense tool DLC to reshape objects.

I really hope half life 2 rtx works with the vr mod, would be amazing.
No reason to run real-time RT in Half-Life 2 since the lighting is often static, much better to pre-bake it like source2 does.... Also, there's no way in hell you are running realtime RT in VR. :) When I play HL: Alyx I render each eye at 2800x2800 at 90Hz. I have a HP Reverb G2 with 2160x2160 screens, but If you want the true 100% resolution the game needs to run more or less at 3100p per eye. which is insane for any hardware. So imagine you need to run a realtime-RT scene twice at a solid 90Hz. You would need some kind of alien hardwware to make that work.

I don't really see the point in this one, yeah some of the remakes look a bit prettier but you can already play HL2 properly in VR with its own VR mod.
Might as well put some graphics mods on that, I assume a lot of cinematics mods textures can slot right in.

Im using a quest 3. I used to use the Valve index but the quest 3 mic isnt very good so need to buy a standalone mic for recording

HLA went with a more stylistic graphical appearance because of the tech limitations imposed on them, they either had to compromise on performance or go for a more artisticalaly driven visual style.
It's also not even near TF2's comic-esque aesthetic, the lighting present in HLA is still based in realism with PBR and modern lighting methods.
