    You can orient the motor 90° so the cable goes out from the side as opposed to through the module. Threading the cable through bears a risk of the wire catching in the treads and jamming the whole mechanism

    really good design! one question though. For the back wheels why not just extend it out a bit then put another tank wheel there?

    • @in1

      I tried to make it as compact as possible, but that probably looks a bit better

    • @osbob1983
      @osbob1983 2 роки тому +5

      You could extend it a little to the side and use one of the small tank wheels, maybe. Though I'm unsure as to the viability of that, it might bend the beam in the middle, and it would definitely need something to ensure the track doesn't snag on the bends

      It's a good way to save on tank wheels, theyre only really needed to power the track, real tanks and other tracked machinery usually only have one toothed wheel per track, the rest are just normal riding wheels. Sure in lego technic the toothed wheel has the optimal traction/friction, but other wheels on the sides work well too.

    • @in1
      @in1  Рік тому +1

      I'm not sure if that would work, since the rubber parts stick through the pin holes, so the tread links can slide on the bent liftarm (32009)...

    Astonishing design!
    Do you think this idea can be used to motorize Ninjago's ultra sonic/stealth raider sets? Each track module of 9449 has 23 track constituents, 70595 has 19, and 71739 has 24. I wonder if you could make the module's track length smaller to fit the criteria? Regardless, I now have the concept. Thank you !

    • @in1
      @in1  2 роки тому +3

      Thanks! Obviously I tried to make it as compact as possible, so I cant really think of a way to make it smaller, but of course you can put the motor somewhere else...

    • @VenerhiaStellarvore
      @VenerhiaStellarvore 2 роки тому +2

      You could also try to save some space where the grey riding wheels are by swaping the red J beam for something else and bringing the grey wheels closer to the middle of the unit by 1-2 studs.

    I'm not familiar with this kind of gearing, would you say it would be suitable for the base of an excavator of approx 2,5kg? (the 90° gearings of my actual excavator crane often slip 'n crack, especially on "carpet duty", where turning with lego caterpillars is stressing the transmission!!)

    • @in1
      @in1  Рік тому +1

      If you have an actual base, it's probably smarter to put the motors directly into the base since you don't really need to save space. So maybe something more robust than this is possible.
