    this is probably the worst case scenario for a puzzle maker. have your puzzle featured on a giant puzzle plattform only to fail in an unexpected way.

    I solved my own copy of this one a few days ago, and had the same issue. My solve-journey was very similar to yours, in fact. - In the end, once I got inside and found how I had originally jammed it, I fixed it by adding material into the 'locking divot' that exists in the floor of the back of the head.
    To be clear, that hole in the floor is where the rotating pillar with the 'orbiting planet' will screw down and lock the whole puzzle shut. If the hole is machined too deeply, there will be enough room for the planet to begin rubbing up against the floor and jamming. The jam becomes worse if concussive [hitting] force knocks the planet further in the rotation that wedges it more tightly against the floor.
    So, the hole is too deep, and is the cause of everything else going wrong. Ergo, make it less deep.
    I have wax for making wooden puzzles work more smoothly, so I tamped down a small amount of wax into the locking hole (using the locking rod itself to push it down). It only needs to be amount a millimeter or so, and the tip of the metal rotating rod will not jam, as wax is 'slippery'. This keeps the planet from ever touching the floor. If too much wax is added to the hole, you can simply scrape some of it out with a small blade of some kind, to find the correct level.
    One tiny disadvantage: At the ideal level of depth, when the puzzle is fully locked, the nose of the puzzle face will screw back in 99% as much as before. In a perfect world, I would remove a tiny amount of length from the rod, to let the nose fit fully back inside, but it's not as though the nose is displaced to any noticeable degree.

      Thanks for that feedback. I think this confirmes that I'm not the only one having that issue and we are talking about a design issue.

    This Is the problem when you have puzzles that could have a multitude of different mechanisms for solving it. You can inadvertently end up causing a failure of a mechanism that was not intended to be manipulated in a particular way. A warning about not using particular force may be required or instead a rethink of the mechanism to prevent force from causing the problem.

  • @sharky98
    @sharky98 8 місяців тому +3

    I suspect it got stuck when you were pushing (maybe too hard?) while rotating it. You said yourself that there is a bit that moved further down. So, if you pushed down at the same time maybe it is when it got stuck. Friction always win 😅

    • @Mr.Puzzle
      @Mr.Puzzle  8 місяців тому +2

      I also think I screwed it in with roatin it and at the end, after reaching the hard stop, giving it an additional rotation with the screwed in part what entirely fixed it.
