Back/Front loop only stitch is to work into the one strand of a stitch instead of both strands. The pattern should indicate whether to work into the back loop or the front loop of a chain, so please refer to the pattern.
In this tutorial, the back loop only half double crochet is worked into the front loop from the wrong side. In other words, it is worked into the back loop from the right side.
