Ranboo must've been the time traveler that forgot. My theory is that when ranboo was time travelling, he also had this choice of The Other Side and The Inbetween. He chose The Other Side, wanting to save people. But in not choosing the Inbetween, he ended up losing his memories and forgetting everything, and the only thing that stayed was his desire to help people. And maybe it explains a little why he hates choosing sides, since choosing between The Other Side and The Inbetween was a choice that ultimately cost him his memories.
If you look at the outfits as well- while yes ranboo is partial enderman, partial other being- he still has the white and grey/black split simular to Karl’s hoodie while in XD’s clock, that being half white half a dark grey/blackish color. You’re theory isn’t one i hadnt nearly thought myself and found quite interesting. It makes a tad bit more sense if it were true, that the choices ranboo had made in the past had led him to disliking making choices. I dont know how much I made sense in the color theory i posed here, but i just found the simple coincidence interesting when put with your theory.

ok but notice how Karl when he’s in dreamxd’s world is half black half white. What if ranboo couldn’t choose, so dreamxd (in his words) got rid of him. since he didn’t choose either side, he lost his memories because he wasn’t in the other side.
I had the exact same theory as soon as they said that the previous time traveler lost their memories!
Oh this is such a good theory! It also explains why he only had one life left even though he didn't remember dying the other two times.

A detail I really like, The Otherside Overseer was more towards selflessness, The In-Between Overseer was more towards Selfishness
i dont believe it was selfish his memory could completely die and if so he would forget he was a time traveler and would forget the people just my opinion tho

at the end when karl is writing in the books, i can't help but notice the use of books between ranboo and karl. karl writes in them to (presumably) not stray from the path, and not forget what happened and what he's meant to do. ranboo's diaries keep all of his memories, so he can remember. i really, truly believe those two are more connected than they think.
charlie's "mr. cycle" name not only ties into the constant loop that he and the others are trapped in, (because he seems desperate to escape too), but it reminds me of c!charlie's life before he died. he was living for thousands of years, watching people come and go in an endless cycle of life and death. a sentient slime who couldn't understand the difference. i think the characters tie together, even if it was just for some references or something.
these were just my thoughts from finishing the stream! hope you guys can give some more insight in the replies!

Ok i have a theory. Mr.Cycle (Charlie) was the first person to attempt the maze and couldn't complete it so he got stuck as the host thing.That explains why he was crying at the start. That also explains the name Mr.Cycle, because of how he is stuck in an endless loop of the same game, over and over again against his will. He said on the second time round when they are sent to the start that he DID believe in them implying that he thought they would be the ones to free him. He said "We can all go home" implying that once someone escapes the maze, he would be free. This would explain why he said that they HAVE to do this... he knew what would happen to them all....They would be stuck, for eternity. But who was making Mr. Cycle do this? He must have been doing it against his will right? Well then who was the origanal host. That was where Ranboo comes in. Ranboo was the first time travler, and did the same thing, and then became the host, Mr. Cycle lost and was forced to take ranboo's spot after he couldnt remember he was a time traveler. Just a theory tho idk.

I mean, as far as I know from the Quackity's stream from month or two ago, they had some problems. And Karl even called big Q a murderer and I believe also forgot something about their history together since he's loosing his memory.

Ok I know that seems stupid but what if c!Charlie was the time traveler that forgot and c!Karl and c!Charlie just so happened to cross paths whilst time traveling? c!Charlie was trying to fix things behind the scenes while c!Karl was trying to fix things while working with the others. c!Charlie didn't know how to act human when he was first introduced in the lore, what if that's what he forgot? he time-traveled to the point where he forgot how to act human. He only knew basic speech and simple actions.

Theory: Karl will end up choosing the inbetween. Karl saw clones of himself walking around the inbetween that one time, what if that was him. I personally don’t like the inbetween, but I think he’ll end up there in the end. I think he either saw his future self that time, or it was the inbetween’s overseer trying to make him think this way. That his choice has already been made.
I do personally think the other side is more about saving everyone and the inbetween is about trying to save himself and his friends, not anyone outside of that. It just seems like the inbetween is pretty dodgy and dangerous to me, but that’s just my two sense.
Edit: AAAAA I JUST THINK I FOUND SOMETHING. So DreamXD said he got rid of the time traveler. Maybe the last time traveler (possibly ranboo), chose the other side, and that might’ve made them lose their memories. That was what made DreamXD get rid of them. Karl might die, but I don’t think it would be in vain.

Things to notice:
The otherside is chill and amicable and more cunning and urgent.
The in-between is nervous and insistent and cautious and conservative.
This whole thing is a metaphor for want vs need: want to help people, need to serve yourself.
Ultimately, it is just a compromise and it's important to remember Dream XD isn't Dream, XD is seemingly more fair but not in a good way. It's like lawful neutral or whatever that means.
He tells you the worst of the situation you're dealt with and says your actions are yourself and I won't care what you do, but it's important to do what you feel you should.
He's compassionate, lawful, scary, and amoral, and this is one of the most interesting kinds of characters. (It's also not the same as a random ass human because what distinguishes the two is amoral means genocide and murder amongst other things do not bother you, in fact you may even be interested in it because the worst and the best are like a horseshoe, both equally fascinating.)
Bro idk if it's obvious but this reminds me of the maze runner so much but it's still really good, applause to the builders and everyone involved

here is something i found interesting, when xd's voice glitched out it made enchantment table text that if you decipher it seems to mock you almost with a death note reference saying LDOYOUKNOWSHINIGAMILOVEAPPLES which is what light said to l to make him frusterated in death note
I think that might be a reference to the death note (at least the opposite counter part to the revive book) book in the dream smp!
I love the detail the is the name, "the labyrinth of Crete" Which implies the the maze is in Greece and Crete is known for ancient ruins. The myth of King Minos, Theseus and the Minotaur also originated in Crete.

I can picture the finale for tales taking place when foolish was still a destructive god. It would be an interesting story and would provide some more lore for foolish.

i honestly think karl should choose the in-between, as much as him (and i) dont trust it, time isnt something to be messed with, helping or not, the future and past need to be unchangeable, the current time although is what is need to be dealt with, it can change the future and accept the past. but they shouldn't be intervened

1:16:50 i absolutely loved this part and there isn't a way for me to describe how many times i reverted by a couple seconds just to hear it again and again, maybe i was focusing on ' the cheese ' instead of the cracks themselves.
There's also some clever visual story telling: the two worlds are inverses of each other and Karl plays on audience expectations without putting in more work than needed.
It takes more work to portal a light world as evil than a dark one. So the natural tendency always sways our opinions to those poles. By showing the audience how unsettling the in-between can get, Karl establishes the grey zone.
Conversely, Karl doesn't need to show an event that should make Karl run from the other side because it's dark and spooky and any subtext reaffirms your preconceived notions. But by making it feel more warm with people and inviting, just though the dialogue, that establishes the grey zone.

It just occurred to me that the Maze might have given a hint to Karl's lore in the last part of the video. Look for the 'cracks', I don't think the inbetween and the other side are trustworthy places.
I love the way that when Karl's in DreamXD's Realm, his jacket goes black and white, each sides pointing towards their portal, but then when he goes to the Otherside it goes totally black, and then in the Inbetween it goes totally white. Such a small thing but Karl's attention to detail is incredible!
Seeing Quackity run off a cliff and die for his pills is the funniest thing I’ve seen.

Ok actually I have an interesting theory…. So Karl is basically another semi god being held to keep the timeline in check by dreamxd hence the reasons he is able to Time travel and these crazy events are happening. He is supposed to forget about his travels but he has been able to recount them. The do not stray from the path is basically dreamxd telling him to stop trying to remember these timeline and just do his job. I saw this somewhere and now I forget where. There’s also another thing that I saw in that place I saw the original theory that George sleeps through lore because for some reason he creates his own lore in another multiverse when he is sleeping. Hence why he is connected to dreamxd and the reason why dreamxd is so close to him. He is trying to stop these other timelines from being created which is why dreamxd gave Karl the ability to time travel so Karl could fix the problems that George had caused.
If you don't know what the point of the tales of the Smp is basically Karl from Dream Smp is a time Traveller travelling across time and meeting new people I basically don't know why he does that and what he gains from it but he does what he does cause he is Karl Jacobs and he's a streamer.
It's to show that history repeats itself. There are tidbits in every tales from the smp referencing something from the main storyline while also creating background and explanations for things in the also main storyline.

I feel like a lot of the end dialogue could have been cut down to simple phrases or quiet moments of staring. The message is not lost on people.
When the Overseer goes on about Karl saving everyone but neglecting his own life, thay could have been distilled into a simple:
"...what about your own."

My theory is that mr cycle was trapped by dream xd because he went over his rule thus as a punishment he is forced to see all these people die in his maze and must talk his a happy go lucky guy, but in reality he’s trying to help us not chance the cheese anymore because he doesn’t want to see the loop of deaths any more.

My theory is that karl is gonna go to both then learn to use it and how to help the people he meets when he time travels
So from my understanding, the in between can turn karl from a kid to the god of time
Oh I think the reason random dead characters just reappear and come back to life only to die is because all of them have actually gone through the maze thousands and thousands of times before, so those instances just bleed through to other cycles, occasionally.

A cool detail in this is when Karl was choosing The Other Side and The Inbetween, his hoodie was split black and white, in The Other Side his hoodie is black, which draws to the theory that Ranboo is the other time traveler, maybe he lost his memories when choosing between the two places, so he was stuck black and white, and Karl's normal skin has around 2 main colours, what if Ranboo's eyes are the remainder of when he had colour?

I haven't watched dream smp in months but I always come back for these solely because of the pure beauty they emit. this is a literal art form - props to Karl and his team for making it all happen

I'm gay for decoding Minecraft codes and theories, so take this:
*WARNING: SPOILERS FOR ENTIRE VOD*
1) Decoding: At the time stamp 1:22:12 , XD[Dream] claims 'No, I don't think so-' before switching to the writing language Enchantment Table, aka Standard Galactic Alphabet. You may think now that it's some sort of easter egg or whatnot, it really isn't. All it is random letters and some words forming : Do you know I love Apples, which is just funny to me.
2) Theory: I have two theories on different things, the Overseers[Jack Manifold] and Mr. Cycle[Charlie Slimecicle]. *OVERSEERS* . Overseer 1{Other Side} spoke about getting tips, helping C!Karl not make previous mistakes and letting him meet his friends again, but also that XD unbalanced these two worlds. OS 1 felt honest, they were worried for C!Karl, they TOLD him that they didn't know what went on in the 'In-Between'. Meanwhile, Overseer 2{In Between} rarely mentioned helping Karl in an actual good way. Like, all OS 2 spoke about were the present memories and his time traveling powers, it was like *bragging* . So, my theory is that these two worlds are indeed unbalanced, but like this. OS 2 doesn't care for C!Karl, all they care for is to manipulate his power, to *toy* with it; while OS 1 wants to save C!Karl from whatever the next adventure may hold. *MR. CYCLE* . He's an interesting guy, very interesting, is he not? Mr. Cycle, based on how he responded, acted, and general personality, is/went insane, but almost broke loose of the insanity he's been through. At 1:17:44 , he says '..Until something breaks, and it's most likely you.' as if he's been in this situation before. Like he too was a player, a maze runner, a mouse even. He fell into this trap like everyone else before and after him. SO, what if Mr. Cycle was one of the original maze runners, and he was driven so insane that he not only the final man again but was also chosen to be the next host for the Labyrinth/The Maze.

The dichotomy between complete selfishness and complete selflessness is really cool. Adding time travel as it’s proxy is super intriguing as well. I’d love to see Karl do both and become a true neutral good.

A phrase came to me when I saw The Inbetween again and it was "Behind beauty and light is a path of deceit and lies" The Inbetween isn't a very trustworthy place even if the overseer says it's a place for Karl to feel safe and comfortable but something plagued The Inbetween before and it will do it again so the place isn't safe and I don't believe that the overseer wrote those books, I saw two theories by different people the first one was that they believe that Tommy wrote them when he was dead which means that Tommy had to have access to the places before Karl and had to be able to see what was going to happen in the future to help him. Another theory I saw is that it was another Karl that could do the same thing dead Tommy could which I think is more likely, but I like both theories. I trust the other side more and when Karl was starting to stray off the path the overseer for The Inbetween sounded mad and evil while when Karl started to go off on his own In The Other Side, he stayed calm and nice and even a bit sad on being left behind.
