How to travel overseas with fire props | Flying with fire gear | FireLily Dance

How to travel with fire props?✈️🔥 Everything you need to know on how to fly with fire spinning gear! My best tips from years of flowing around the world, to help you travel with your flow props :)
1. Find a bag for your gear 🧳 This is almost the trickiest part, because props can be all sorts of weird shapes and sizes, and not always collapsable. The search terms I have had the most success with:
- tent pole bag
- tripod case
- snowboard bag
- keyboard case
- Baseball/golf bag
I have two prop bags that I use (both pictured in video). The first is a bag from @ikea, the second is prop bag specifically made by @modekdesigns. I’m not sure if either are still available, but the above search terms will help you find what you need!
2. I ALWAYS put my props in checked luggage. Carry on can be okay, but you are a LOT more likely to run into problems with airport security.
3. Be sure to cover your wicks (a bag, socks, wick covers🧦). If you pack fire and non-fire luggage in the same bag, use a bag of some sort around your fire gear to prevent your other luggage getting sooty.
4. Collapsible travel props are nifty (though not essential). I love my collapsible fire fans by @flowdna_arts 😻🔥
5. I like to pack props between other items that help hold the shape. They are very unlikely to be damaged, but I feel better for protecting them a bit more!
6. Put any silk props in a water proof bag🌈 This is also how I store and transport my silk props to events generally. It protects them from tearing or discolouring from any accidental contact with water!
7. Packing cells to organise clothes and costumes are a MUST for me!!!😻
8. Travel yoga mat that flat packs = bonus 🧘🏻
9. Soft case bags weigh less and I find have more squishability! If you struggle to pack light like me, every bit counts.
10. ❌DON’T Mention fire to airport staff. They will freak out.
11. ✅DO say you are carrying juggling props or dancing gear or circus toys.
12. ❌DON’T wrap wicks in glad wrap. I have never done it or encountered a problem for not doing it. Save the plastic.
13. ✅DO burn off your wicks completely before you travel. You don’t want the wicks to hold any fuel!
