Cannock Chase | Monkey Trail and Follow the Dog

- Cannock Chase is a huge man made trail centre just above the centre of Birmingham. Thousands of people each year go to Cannock to ride the Red trails; Follow the Dog and the Monkey Trail.
For all the riders out there you have a 20km Red Xc trail which has a few challenging technical sections, Near to Cannock Chase you also have a dozen DH Trails at Stile Cop.
Cannock Chase has everything you could need for a family day out or big day on the bike. For the family you have a Go Ape, Play park and Segway tours as well as some tame green and Blue trails.
All the facilities you could need are on site including the bike shop; Cannock Chase Cycle centre which does Servicing, Hire, Bike sales and all the gear you could want.

Fave sections at Cannock, Snap it, Lower Cliff and Son of a chain slapper. There also an old unused section about half way around the Monkey Trail thats super, super steep and fun!

Love watching your footage, living less than a mile from the chase trails shows how blessed we are, completed the dog a few times and very popular. Stile cop downhills are free parking ..

Cannock Chase is amazing .
Follow the dog is a fun ride , graded red at 6.7 miles and 75% single track.
The monkey trail leaves at the bottom of "high voltage" into the "uncle Arthur" section before crossing the river on the the money trail proper ( I missed the turn first time there) . 14.2 miles at 80 % single track. The monkey trail is also red graded but definitely harder due to more of it and bigger downhills .
The black sections are alternative sections and marked.
Got my first big jumps there last weekend in the Woodside downhills.
With a sensible bit of rest between sections and reasonable speed it can still take a good 2 hours of riding to get around . I'm an average rider .
I love the names given to the sections , it allows you to talk about specific sections when recounting it .
High voltage, Devil's staircase, dear skull, , rainbow valley, over the rainbow, pot of gold, just to name a few . There are so many sections with different feels to them.

I think you're right that cannock is modelled around the intermediate rider but some of the blacks will test the more advanced rider , overall it's a great bike park and worth a visit, great vid :)

My local trail centre. There's plenty of off piste too. Upper cliff is my favourite on the monkey but I think it's been closed a while.
Stile cop is pretty good. There's a good 10 trails graded 1-3. Some stuff up there is pretty hairy. Big drops and gap jumps etc. Its a fair push back up the hill.

What width bars are you running? On that final optional black on Follow the Dog (4min 30sec) is misjudged it massively while trying to squeeze my mine through and ended up OTB haha!

@@MtbTrailHub Ah, I'm on 780mm but just went a bit too far to one side and my attempts at evasive manoeuvres involved grabbing way too much brake. Not on video sadly! Presumably this feature was built before ultra-wide bars were a thing, but I guess that's half the challenge...

Should have watches this before we went the other day :) We went straight over the road, missed the turn for the monkey and ended up skipping everything but a horrible uphill and lower cliff. Lower cliff is wicked tho :) Great trail for absolute noobs like me...I do have to push up a couple of hills tho
Gazmus oh no! You’ve got another reason to go back now😁..... some of those climbs are pretty tough but they will get easier each time! 💥

You do indeed, my legs are normally feeling by the time I get there.
Not ridden stile cop yet as was riding on my own last few times I went, but plan on it sometime this year. Looks like there a few fun bit up there when I looked on Trailforks.

That rock garden near the start is the worst piece of built trail at Cannock. ETA .... and totally pointless
yeah it's a bit janky but i'm assuming its a natural bog underneath???
@@MtbTrailHub there was a wooden bridge over the stream/wet bit about 6m, and then a dry but sandy up hill . A stone bridge and their usual resurface would have been fine. ETA This wasn't done by the Cannock trail crew but was build for the F.C. by "professionals"
Me and the nephew went here yesterday and I'm sorry but we don't see why this gets such good reviews, it was mostly all climbing with short crappy downhills and we will definitely not be going again. We went stile cop later in the day which was so much better..afan, coed y brenin, Cwm carn were much better, at least with those you got rewarded with decent downhills for the climbing you had to do..we wouldn't recommend Cannock to people we know.👎👎👎👎
It's not for everyone that's for sure, meant to be some good off piste.
A Good intro to mtb for some or for a lung burner ...... lacks a lot of quality trail.
