I’m just getting into offering this service, so glad I found your video! I’m young and I don’t know much about deicer lol where do you get a supply? And do you have more videos about this sprayer setup?
This is the solution I was looking for first year in residential snow and ice removal. I’ve got one of those tanks sitting in the yard empty so I guess I have no excuse haha. Thanks for sharing man!
Can you make a video on how the wand works with this setup? Id like to see about building something like this that I can use for sidewalks, but im stuck on the pressure side of the wand. I know the pump will turn on, but does it shut off when you are not using the wand but keep the pressure at a constant psi so when you DO use the wand it will spray no problem and keep the pressure? Hope that makes sense...
Just found this while trying to research salting and spraying parking lots. How did you charge for this service? so much per gallon of material used? By sq footage of lots? Looking for more info on this...thanks!
You really should consider using some type of spray nozzles. You will build up some pressure in the line which will penetrate the snow / ice more effectively.
What was your cost to make this? I know there will be some variables, but I am looking to make one for our town to pretreatment the streets on a small budget
Why not use "Boom Spray Nozzles" in the holes on the boom? Then you can use less holes, less solution and get even better coverage on the road.. Thats what the Brine truck uses on the boom that does my road..
Just switched to it at the end of the season last year, have 2 runs on it right now. Seems to be a solid unit, but time will tell. I will keep everyone updated with a new video
What types of de-icing products do you use? Leave a comment below!

I use Potassium Acetate; non toxic, non corrosive, non hazardous bio degradable, good to minus 40.

Thank you for this! Very helpful and informative!
Glad I could help!
Great job! Thanks for the tips!
Hey can you explain which pump you used and how your wired the electrical . Also how do you turn it on from.the truck
How is this pump doing after 3 years of use? Did Magnesium Chroride messed it up? Would you still recomend this setup?
Definitely still recommend it. Pump is still doing fine, I do run water through the whole setup before storing for the summer
Nice setup. What size holes are in the PVC and what is the spacing? Thanks
Also, do you have a link to the bigger pump?
Where is your list of supplies for this project?
My set up siphons after pump shut off. any ideas to resolve that. used all the same components as the video except don use the wand

The 12v pump I have listed in the description has a pressure switch, so as soon as you start spraying the pump turns on and keeps constant pressure
@@MichaelTheakston exact answer I was looking for, thank you!!
No access to premixed. Have a pallet of DowFlakes. Think mixing my own would work through this setup?
Yes, but get a good hydrometer to make sure you get the mix right.

We charge a per app price on all our properties, same price no matter how much we use
Did you make a video of the pros and cons for rock vs salt? If not, do you have any opinions?
Great video. What size of drill bit did you use and how many holes?
1/8" and about 10 holes

What nozzles do you use?
TeeJet H1/4U-SS solid stream Stainless steel nozzles work great for penetrating ice/snow, you need to size them according to your rate. @@bjgarbacz1
Could You please tell which updated pump You Will use, as Amazon page is not available anymore, thanks a lot
This is genius! Where would one get liquid cal from? The only place I've seen it is in a local home store and they want 20 clams a gallon!
We buy it from a local calcium chloride supplier in bulk for $0.40 per gallon!
What was your cost to make this? I know there will be some variables, but I am looking to make one for our town to pretreatment the streets on a small budget
I think I had about $300 total into the whole unit.
You have a link to the pump?
In the video description I listed all the parts to build.

What size holes did you drill in the pvc for the drip/spray holes?
1/8"
Questions what size holes and how many of them do you put in the boom
I think there are 8-10 and 1/8"
Did you put a bigger pump and any suggestions on which spray nozzle
I run a 20gpm fuel pump now and I just drilled holes in pipe.
What larger pump are you thinking about using?
20gpm fuel transfer pump
Why not get a pigtail that fits into your salt spreader wire harness? Then can use that controller to turn it off n on.
What would be an adequate ratio of calcium chloride to add to water and disolve? What is the ppm of the comercial pre mix?
It's a commercial pre-mix calcium chloride between 21-25%
@@MichaelTheakston Have you made an attempt at putting a bag in your tank? Great video!!
We haven't yet, it works so well that we have had no need.
Where do you buy liquid magnesium chloride from im looking for some
There is a place in Grand Rapids,MI that sells it to us by the gallon.
@@MichaelTheakston price?
@@electricmow around .45-.50/gallon
@@MichaelTheakston and what’s your ratio for salt, magnesium chloride and water
@@electricmow Not sure what your asking?
Which pump did you upgrade to?
This 20gpm pump: amzn.to/39VYs5R

@@MichaelTheakston could you pls inform brand and model of this pump? Page is not available, thanks a lot
Rock salt right now but that looks interesting.
Saves a ton of money and it doesn't fluctuate in price like rock salt, we had great success this morning with it melting in single digit temperatures.
@@MichaelTheakston I'm game for anything that saves or puts more money in our pocket.
Just make a boom less sprayer like you use on a lawn liquid application available at northern tool your welcome
Problem is you need straight jets to pierce through snow and ice to get to pavement, so mist sprayers will be far less effective.
