Yusuke's art is beautiful but I think I get it when he said it was "empty". Yusuke knows of the darkness of the world and how desire corrupts the hearts of others. The common people wouldn't be able to see what he is expressing because only he and perhaps the other Phantom Thieves have an inkling of the sinister side of desire. This biased Yusuke as he was attempting to capture desire as everyone sees it, but he mistakenly only captured his own due to his experiences. It's just a theory though.
I liked the first painting better. On another note, I'm going through the exact same thing that Yusuke was going through. However, it came about from feeling inferior all throughout my time at the university I was attending. No matter what I did, my drawings were never good enough, so I lost all passion for drawing once I graduated. I still have a hard time picking up a pencil out of fear of inferiority. Knowing that what I do will never be good enough. It's hard. Really, really hard. And it hurts. Still hurting even now.
This game has one plot hole If u kill a palace ruler, the shadow of the person in the real world they may experience mental shutdown/apathy syndrome So... How does killing them in mementos not do that
The actual shadows of people you face in mementos don't get killed by the party, just like their palace counterparts, you beat em till they give in and listen to reason. The regular enemies are just like cognitive enemies in palace, it's ok to beat em
