  • Hey everyone, here is an original riff idea in E Major. It's a 4-1 progression. If using numbers to describe a musical idea sounds like a foreign language then you're in a great place! Stay tuned for future videos where we'll dive into these riffs and de-construct them so that you too can both understand and play them!
*Note: I play guitar one handed due to a stroke that I had as a kid. Thus, my channel is aimed at unlocking the possibility of playing the guitar for those who find themselves in a similar circumstance, with limited or no use of one of their arms. However, my passion for guitar extends well beyond just teaching just us one handed folks. That said if you're a 2 handed player and just want to learn more about this amazing instrument, you're in the right place too! I very much look forward to sharing more with you all very soon!
    All the best!

Hey David! Yeah, I've been occupied with other things, but still playing a lot. I'm headed into a season of more UA-cam posting and excited to share what I've been learning! Good hearing from ya!

Hey love the videos. Something similar happened to me. I was wondering how you learnt the guitar one handed? Like is there a one handed book I should look into?

Hey Owen! Thanks for writing in! To answer your question I learned through trial and error and a lot of time invested. I started back before the days of UA-cam and didn’t know of any “best practices” I also had zero knowledge of music, but a deep love for it guided my determination to stick with it. I did have a couple of buddies that played normal 2 handed style and they mentioned a thumb pick may work, I tried that out and had great results! Along the way there was countless other things I tried, with all kinds of contraptions and extra gear. I really wanted to approach the instrument in a straight forward form.. trying to aim not to modify too much.. and that’s how my playing style came to be! I’m aiming to put more material out there to help out and show how to do it, but if you have any questions don’t hesitate to reach out! All the best!

Thank you for showing that you can play the guitar with one hand, you helped me to take the courage that I lacked to play ... because I have a problem on the same side as you called hemipareciate. small but the arm and hand are very difficult to operate and have good results. I asked what guitars do you use?

Hey Damian! So glad to hear that you found the video helpful! I hope that you'll give playing a try! I have some other videos on my channel that go more into my technique and approach to playing. Definitely check those out for more. As far as the guitars, they are both just standard guitars that any two handed player could play. My acoustic is a Taylor 210e & the electric is a Fender 52 tele style.
If your left side is affected (like me) you'd want to use a right handed guitar. Then just lay it across your lap so that your right hand can access the neck and frets and you're ready to start making music. Hope this helps, In addition to what's already on my channel, I'll be posting a lot more soon! All the best!

Is that a tele style lap steel you're playing?

    • @OneHandedGuitar

Hey Nick, this is a Tele. It’s modded with a square neck to lay a little more sturdy on my leg so it dies look a bit like a lap steel! Thanks for the question 🙏🎸
