      I think what he meant was that the pistol started showing its age according to the chain of command in the US Army. They thought the pistol was no longer useful. But after the 1911 was replaced, it became more popular than ever in the civilian market which kept its stride going.

    I think it's funny, the story of some weapons in US inventory.
    The FN Mag machine gun got beaten by the M60, but then came back to replace it.
    Sig Sauer lost to Beretta in the 80s, but just recently, a variant of the 226 was chosen to replace the M9.

      The P320 has little relationship to the P226. It's based on the P250 and it has a striker instead of a hammer, like a Glock.

    • @el-uomo-y-el-chapo
      @el-uomo-y-el-chapo 4 роки тому +47

      If you think about it, even the M16 had a similar story. After the Korean War, the M14 was chosen instead of the ar10, the prototype of what later became the ar15(the M16 and later the M4), but the US Army quickly realized how poorly the M14 was performing in the jungles of Vietnam. So that's why they replaced their main battle rifle again, and this time the ar10 won.

    • @mutilator97
      @mutilator97 4 роки тому +19

      The p320 isn't a variant of the 226. It's a completely different gun. Striker fired, polymer frame, made to be as modular as possible, NOT DROP SAFE. Wait, what?

      I know this joke refer to the world wars, but actually Italian army is the ninth strongest army in the world and, Beretta is one of the most productive gun brands in the world. Our army is divided in 4 major groups that you may have already heard about: 1) 9° reggimento d'assalto paracadutisti "col moschin" (or maybe you've heard Folgore)
      2) Gruppo Operativo Incursori
      3) 17° Stormo Incursori
      4) Gruppo intervento speciale
      Folgore is really well known in Europe, its name literally mean thunderbolt and as you can imagine they're a paratrooper group.

    The other reason Berettas are so popular in movies (besides the sexy shape and large frame) is because they are easier to convert to fire blanks: The action of the pistol uses a falling block instead of a tilting barrel, so you can modify the barrel to fire blanks with perfect semi-automatic reliability.

    Being a proud owner of a 92, I can tell you that these guns are fantastic. I got the 92S, which was an Italian police de-com, but even without the changes made to the FS, it's solid to its core. Shoots the worst steel cased ammo all day long and its accurate til it dies. If you get a used 92S you'll only have to spend about $350 at the highest (as of the time of writing this) and there is basically no better deal out there as far as price/quality.

The commercial Beretta 92s/92a1s are better than the US issued ones due to law abiding citizens using them & cleaning & maintaining them.

    I have to admit, the M9 or Beretta 92 is one of the many classic pistols known to the world, both in movies, gaming, and reality. I remember me, my brothers, my father, and my cousins tried out the M9 since one of them had it as a sidearm in the police force after dove hunting. We saw these empty beer bottles, so we decided to use them as target practice. Finally, I got to try out the pistol and...man it had a lot of recoil. I was definitely astounded how much power the M9 has in real life instead of in gaming.

    While I think the switch from .45 to 9mm wasn't a bad thing, the M9 as the particular choice for a sidearm did irk me a little. In a normal urban environment, it'd work fine, but in very dusty environments, the open top slide really could prove a problem. I love the M9, don't get me wrong, it's just that I believe a 9mm Glock or even a 9mm 1911 would've made the difference

    I personally don't like the open slide design on the 92, as US military experience has shown, it easily allows dust and other debris to jam the action, and I'm also not a fan of the slide mounted safety, it makes it very easy to accidentally actuate it while chambering a round. I still think we should have adopted the P226, it's overall a much better better pistol with a very proven track record with the Navy seals, and another advantage is that it's also available in multiple other calibers such as .40 S&W and .357 Sig.

      The open slide design actually doesn't provide for a whole lot of issues, actually. Watch MAC's torture test. The gun did pretty damn well. As for actuating the safety during manipulation, yeah. Beretta knew about that issue 30 years ago, and fixed it on the civilian models. The military models, however, were apparently never supposed to get updates like that(don't ask why, I don't know).
      Personally, if I were to get a 9mm full size pistol, it would probably be a toss up between the beretta m9a3 and the Sig P226(take that as you will for quality of both). However, I'm a .45 guy. So I go for the FN FNX-45. And a 1911 of course.

    the main complaint from veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan isn't the guns durability, which is good, but the low power of 9mm. the the fact that pistols in modern warfare are only meant for last ditch personal defense, .45 is much better since it has a much better chance of putting an enemy down in one shot, rather than multiple with 9mm. that being said, 9mm does seem much more feasible and appropriate for law enforcement and security purposes.

      Def do P90. Made its mark in films/TV and games. Also possibly discus how if differs from its real life counter-part. It does annoy me how much it gets nurfed due to "balancing". BUT with a 50 bullet Magazine firing at 900rpm and able to pierce Kevlar Body Armour it is a tad over powered. lol

      5.7 has been found to perform similar to .22 Magnum. Its also expensive compared to other Nato standardized rounds.
      The .45acp vs 9mm debate is also played out do death. .45acp performs better than 9mm in military service where hollowpoint ammunition is banned. Where it isnt 9mm performs just as well with twice the capacity.

      Alloy is a type of steel.

    • @r4fken
      @r4fken 10 років тому +3

      its not. Steel is iron and carbon. Alloys are made from two metallic materials. say aluminium and titanium or copper and tin. Steel can be part of an alloy but isnt one its self. While you can argue it is because its two combined elements the definition of alloy is: 'a metal made by combining two or more metallic elements, especially to give greater strength or resistance to corrosion'.

    I hate to admit this, however when you look at the ballistic characteristics of the 9mm and the .45 ACP are incredibly similar. It boils down to physics. roughly speaking the 9mm Parabellum travels at about double the speed of the .45 ACP round but the slug weighs about half as much as that of the .45. The end result is they impart about the same amount of energy into the target.
    Now you can get really nit picky and start looking at the differences between the different types of ammunition, eg hollow point vs hardball and their wound track characteristics and the likely hood of over penetration. However, at the end of the day, there really is very little difference between the two calibers. Modern 9mm offer only slightly higher capacity eg 18 vs 15 rounds in double stack configuration while the .45ACP offers intimidation factor and a reduced risk of over penetration.
    The end result, it boils down to preference and mission requirements.

    • @rickdot4902
      @rickdot4902 7 років тому +1

      Also, the extra speed and smaller diameter of the 9mm, lends itself better in penetration. Your odds of an over penetration with a handgun is actually pretty slim. And even if it does, it's gonna lose pretty much all its energy.

    • @dewalddebeer8714
      @dewalddebeer8714 7 років тому +1

      I'm sorry but I have to disagree with you there. There are multiple accounts of 9mm rounds being used in self-defense shootings where attackers were hit in soft tissue areas, the round over penetrated and the attacker was not stopped. There are even instances where police officers were hit while not using body armor where the did not even realize that they were hit until later when they discover the bleeding. The 9mm round, especially in hardball configuration has a tendency to over penetrate. there is more than enough FBI conducted ballistic gell tests that shows this.
