Hello, nice pond. My dad used to dig/build ponds back in the 1950's and 60's. When he finished the pond, he would back a manure spreader up to the pond and put a load of manure into the new pond. That would settle all the clay to the bottom and the manure also would start the life cycles in the pond. Just like magic, a cloudy pond would clear up. Those ponds were fun to fish in as I was a kid. Folks would let me fish them because they knew my Dad. Nice memory. George.

8:14 Definitely a Banded Watersnake, Nerodia fasciata. At this time stamp you can see the eye stripe is thinner at the nose and curves down and gets thicker towards the cheek. They are fantastic mimics of the Cottonmouth but not quite good enough---a Cottonmouth eyestripe is straighter from nose to cheek, and more uniform thickness. There is a ton of variability in body striping but usually a Cottonmouth has thinner dark bands and wider light ones, and the Banded Watersnake is usually opposite, like we have here. Also, while in an attempt to mimic the Cottonmouth the Banded Watersnake does have a wider face, it is still just not wide enough or the right shape.

My father-in-law grew up in SC. He was born in 1922, and grew up on a family farm. He had a garden nearly his entire life, an peanuts were something he always grew. Hey about the water tests, its best to do the test immediately after sampling. The pH and Alkalinity will change over time as the sample sits in the bottle, especially if there is air in the bottle.
I'm not criticising, just suggesting an alternative strategy but would you not rather a natural planted look with crystal clear water? 5 acres is more than big enough to get a sustainable balanced ecosystem. The key is high (native) species diversity so tnat interspecific competition prevents any species becoming overabundant. It also saves on feeding and fertiliser, which are you paying to do work that nature does for free with a few years of ecological succession once you add the keystone species. I'm also wondering if aiming for artificially maximised numbers of fish will limit the maximum size of the fish but I'm not sure about that at all, it's just a question that occurs to me.
Been wondering the exact same thing, these biologists of his don't seem to be very ecologically minded. The only reason I could see behind not taking a natural approach is perhaps the depth of his pond? Not sure how deep it is but usually the depth of ponds and lakes keeps the vegetation from spreading throughout, so maybe this is why they have advised him against it?

I had to broadcast a powder across a pond once and was told to use a lawn spreader. The mechanism relied on the wheels turning. Can't do that from shore, so we used a leaf blower. Put a big ol' T on there and fed it in via a vac hose. Had good reach from shore.

My sister and her family are building a pond right now and they are loving all your tips! I’ve been telling them to look you up so I don’t have to keep restating what you’ve said! Thanks again!
Here in Eastern North Carolina we got bucks with antlers coming out...just busted the skin.... beautiful pond...can't wait to see what it produces for you
I bet it makes you feel great seeing the fish multiply, all tour hard work paying off.
One of the things I really appreciate and love about your project is that you've created a whole new circle of life. I think that's pretty darned special!
Wow the water looks amazing now!! And you are so lucky to have Owl Capone there to guard your vegetables. I know I have an owl near my garden but the real problem where I am is javelinas that are just ruthless to gardens. Awesome to see how the pond has progressed!
That pond is looking BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Take your time and do it right and you get amazing results
Love to see a comparison in the colour of the pond with the drone before and after the lime.
You should make a boat ramp.
Your such an awesome family. Glad to have stumbled upon your channel. If I ever visit Alabama, I'd love to come see your pond.
Keeping America alive.. beautiful bro!!!!
Holy hell and they are all absolute stud drakes you lucky bugger ! Blue wings teal are still puddle ducks but a lot more mobile. Their normally habitat is low water marshes with plant of shallow vegetation! This is so damn cool
Dude .. my phone is gone to crap which made me watch the video 2 times.... First with closed captioning then without the caption so I could actually watch the video... Made my crappy day so much better, this video
Seriously I have never clicked on any video faster than I do when I see BamaBass's pond updates. I see I'm not the only one this video is almost at 100k views and has only been up a few hours.
What I'd give to come take a guide trip on your frog spot with you! You're living my dream with this new pond build!
Amazing. This land is a Paradise. I love watching it develop. Thank you for sharing this project!
This was introduced to me recently... Watching all of it. Wow fantastic job
Pond is looking awesome. Amazing how fast the fish grow and reproduce. What a perfect paradise.
You all please take care and be safe
I had to broadcast a powder across a pond once and was told to use a lawn spreader.
The mechanism relied on the wheels turning.
Can't do that from shore, so we used a leaf blower.
Put a big ol' T on there and fed it in via a vac hose. Had good reach from shore.
I never thought I’d be so invested in watching a pond but I love it
I just found this! My first video in this group. Amazing. I’m gonna watch them all. It’s so cool! Absolutely fascinating.
It did look like a Banded water snake, Nerodia fasciata, but my jam is neotropical species. Just looks exactly like the Banded we have up here (Lake Ontario).
