- This video is the format flip of KDGE on November 17, 2016 at 5pm. The station had been stunting with a loop of "Closing Time" by Semisonic. iHeartMedia decided to pull the plug on this long time Alternative Rock station that first starting at the 94.5 frequency in 1989. In 2000, the format moved to 102.1. This marks the end of 27 years of Alternative Rock in DFW. The new format at 102.1 will be Mainstream AC as Star 102.1 after the holiday season.
UPDATE: 11/17/17
After exactly one year, Entercom (merged with CBS earlier this year) decided to flip formats on the under performing 103.7 KVIL from CHR to Alternative. DFW will now have a new home for alternative music. It's interesting they flipped the format on KVIL exactly one year to the day after "The Edge" left the market.
First this, then the Eagle becoming the freak, then 98.7 KLUV becoming The Spot, man, my childhood is slowly dissappearing
Edit: The Eagle is back!!
I’m glad I heard that 97.1 The Eagle is back but I’m also glad i heard The Edge is back and is now on 97.1 KEGL-HD2 but it needs to come back to 102.1 KDGE-FM the Star 102.1 format sucks ass
And not only that but I’m also glad that The Edge is no longer on 102.1 KDGE-HD2
Rock on, 102.1 The Edge. It's been 1 years ago..
The star station keeps showing the commercial on the cw 33 I guess there not doing to well
That one of commercials from tribune broadcasting's final years during Maury show.
This was the saddest format flip ever, we recently lost Wild 104.9 in OKC after 22 years
For a fucking Christmas and top 40 station.
Actually, they're a AC station Drew.
AC Means An Combination Of Top 40 And Classic Hits!
I got a feeling it's a long stunt to reboot the station
I don't listen to radio anymore. I appreciate all types of music. Commercials don't bother me. Stations sound alike. I listen to Jazz and classical stations if I listen. I stream stations because there is nothing that is interesting. It doesn't surprise that these companies are going bankrupt
THIS VIDEO IS DISLIKED CAUSE THERE IS KDGE 102.1 THE EDGE FOR LIFE
One year after the fact, Entercom flipped KVIL 103.7 from CHR to Alternative to fill the void.
I was listening to this on my phone while on the DART to a Stars Game
Everyone alternative is back to the DFW area. ALT 103.7 and yes their giving 97.1the eagle competition in ROCK N ALTERNATIVE so try ALT 103.7
I think KEGL 97.1 The Eagle Won The Competition Because It was better than KVIL ALT 103.7 not gonna lie cause I miss 97.1 the eagle
@@AidenTheMinecraftGamerAn-le8zj sorry my friend but 97.1 the eagle no more on traditional radio ever since becoming 97.1 the freak.
Some of the music Alt 103.7 plays is pop rock and not alternative. Fun-We Are Young, Imagine Dragons, thats not alternative. Thats pop rock. Now Nirvana, Soundgarden, Queens of the Stone Age, Royal Blood, thats alternative.
@@mr.k8280 true like Lorde and Portugal the Man pop rock.
@@sammychairez3397 Metallica, Tool, NIN, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath. Megadeath, Pink Floyd, Ozzy Osborne. Good rock
KTXQ - Q102 - Texas' Best Rock
More like “KDGE-FM 102.1 The Edge Dallas-Ft. Worth’s Alternative”
Damn it's almost a year since the change.
Good News! The Edge is back! But now it's on 103.7 which is now renamed to "Alt 103.7" as the new name.
Now you can hear that same alternative music on KVIL FM 103.7.
happydolphin coincidentally on that same day, WNYL FM in New York City flipped to alternative at the same exact time.
And Dallas Radio Station Called Star 102.1 Is An AC Music And Christmas Music Radio Format As Well.
I was doing college radio in ‘98-‘99. Noticed how clear channel was making cookie cutter stations and killing off anything that played the same format in the same city. Also noticed the same branding in other cities.
This all started I was at unit 3 at the original advanced health and rehab of Garland just 3 years before they moved and I loved Christmas music and contemporary hits from past and present. Kdge star 102.1 is more then the edge format. Star 102.1 has leftovers from kexb 620's radio Disney affiliation today star 102.1 hears the Wilson sisters also better know as heart in these dreams.
I quit listening to the edge in like 2013 or 14 when all that odd sounding stuff came up like florence and the machine and others. But they ended The Edge and it turned into another mix channel. There's already several mix stations. So now i no longer listen to the radio and use cd and vinyl.
I herd the star station was failing
I wish they change it to alt 102.1 like they did with 104.9 in st louis and 98.7 in los Angeles
me too
And now The Eagle is gone
Holy crap. It's been almost 3 years since the format change.
so they changed formats by pulling the xmas music all the time thing
smart way to bump ratings
