    Teaching ESL is for sure a nice way to work abroad! It's the simplest option for getting into it. Sometimes when you're in the country for a while and learn the language, other opportunities can come up too.

      Did you do that and did you have any prior teaching experience!? I'm thinking of moving abroad next year. I do IT work but not sure if my employer will keep me employed if I leave 😎

    Your video is very informative. lots of informations packed in 15 mins with honesty. Love the fact that you talk with a gentle voice , straight to the point. Clearly you did alot to be where you are now it's not just one straight line path and it somehow shifts my mindset. thank you!

    I've recently picked up some freelance writing work. Writing articles and listicles for one client, UA-cam scripts for another. At the moment my weekly wok makes me £140, but I'm thinking of binning my physical work to take on more writing work, with a mind on potentilly moving abroad.

    Your videos are honestly so helpful. I would really love to go abroad and work abroad. I am interested in teaching abroad. When you were doing your TEFL certification did you do it in class or online? Also, do you happen to know the difference between TESOL/TEFL/TESL?

    • @EmilyStoker
      @EmilyStoker  6 років тому +4

      I’m really glad you found it useful, Sophie! Thank you so much for the feedback 😊
      My TEFL course was a weekend intensive in London (in person). They had different “levels” of the course (some people did a number of online hours in addition), but I went for a more basic package just to get a certification.
      I hadn’t heard of TESOL or TESL, but after a brief google search it looks like they’re just different boards that offer support and you can gain your certification from. I can’t say I’d heard of them before, so I don’t know if they’re any good. The main names of boards I heard people talking about in my personal experience through my time abroad were TEFL and CELTA. Researching which board is better known/respected is something to consider when choosing who to study with, as language schools may take this into account when choosing who to hire! 😊 good luck 😄

    I'm planning on going around the world and living in some countries. I'm working towards becoming a professional baker and I want to learn from other countries and see their foods. I have no real idea of how I'll be able to do it all though.

    Really interesting Emily,
    I didn't start my travelling and working abroad until quite a bit later than you, but Europe is a whole new world.
    My first time working abroad was also at Uni, in Ecuador......... I think your first experiences, lead onto the possibility of others.
    I feel lucky that I did teacher training, as right now, after Brexit, it is still a license to get VISAs in whatever country I manage to get a job...so that is really lucky right now, with Brexit, I even have an EU driving license for 15 years for Europe!
    I would love to buy a house in somewhere like Sicily where there are schemes to buy and renovate a house there, and although teaching may not be forever for me, it is THE way to get into EU countries now :)
    Lisbon also sounds nice, I have also always wanted to go to Portugal....where do you prefer..... Italy, Portugal or Belgium?

    When people say they just “moved abroad with no plans and figured it out” are they telling the truth or is that just a thing people say?

    Question, do you have to eventually apply for citizenship in the country you live in after staying there for a certain amount of time? I know you would have to if your final decision is to live there pernamintly and be involved in with it's system like voting there? If you apply for citzenship in that country, does that mean you are no longer considered a U.S citizen if that country does not do dual citizenship? Are the moving companies who would move your items including your veheicle overseas associate with airlines? Do you know any companies who move your items long distance within the country and overseas? If yes, can you please name them? Do you know any international job application websites?

    I'm really considering moving abroad but am really concerned getting work as I don't have a degree or particular vocation! (I'm 23 and am still completely figuring out) I currently live in London and work as a PA. Do you have any advice? Sorry if that's vague :)

    Hi. I’m 17 and I live in the United States. I have wanted to travel and live in another country like Italy. I’d want to make money passively by making it online. Is that possible?

    • @EmilyStoker
      @EmilyStoker  5 років тому +20

      Hi! That's possible, but remember that there's usually a lot of work that goes into passive income before it's something you can live off of. People who tell you it's easy are usually trying to sell you something.
      There are lots of jobs that would give you the opportunity to travel/live abroad. My best advice would be to follow the skills you enjoy and work hard at them to build a sustainable career. I remember when I was at college I was so impatient to start living my life abroad, but short-cuts are usually short-lived.
      The time it takes to build something sustainable will pass anyway and you'll have more to show for it if you put in the necessary steps to building a strong, sustainable foundation towards your goals :D Good luck!
