I’ve said this before but I’ll say it again: YOUR VIDEOS ARE SO GOOD!! I’m hooked. I’ve been shooting photos on my phone for about 1.5 year. Now, I’m looking forward to buying a Sony A7iii with a 24mm f1.4 and a Zeiss Batis 85mm f1.8 in a few months. Your videos have helped me a lot. Have a great day🙂!!. Good luck man!
Hi Chris. To get the best accuracy and speed on AF, try to register the subject face and then use AF Lock settings. It's better than use spot or center AF for your test.
I've been using the Sony 24mm F1.4 GM for a few months now and I love it for both video and photo. It feels like a proper lens for a mirrorless camera, it's well balanced when paired with the A7III. Great video! Cheers!
I really want this lens. Now with the 17-28 Tamron coming out, I don’t know if I can justify both, since that is more versatile and will match up with the 28-75 so well. (I know you’re not too crazy about the 28-75, but it has been serving me very well.)
+1 on that Sigma 24mm art autofocus noise - EXTREMELY loud, making any type of shot done with shotgun mic totally unusable. Returned mine after 1 week and stick to the pricy but much more worth native lens (in my case Canon but i'm pretty sure will be same for sony). Great content and great review!
Man, I LOVED the intro of this!!!! Stunning. Also, amazing content and examples. Thanks for cementing that I officially need the Fuji equivalent 16mm f1.4 😜
so for video you think setting to 2.8 would be better to shoot in? also how would this handle video with hand held shooting on a sony a7iii. I really want this lens but cant find it in stock.
its sold out everywhere!! but a lot of places stopped taking preorders now, thinking it will be coming back in stock everywhere soon. F2.8 works great, I actually just shot a whole video using it as a test and looks amazing!
Hey Chris, Yes agree 100% with your review. I did massive research before deciding to go with the 24GM. I do astro mainly but it sits on my a7iii 95% of the time. No regrets at all, it is a beast. Low light matters to me and if you think it works well on the a7iii for astro, if you can manage to get your hands on an original a7s ( I own one) then try it on the a7s and be amazed. Best purchase lens I have ever made by far. A close second is the Sigma 16 f/1.4 apsc, both amazing lenses IMO.
Thanks for the awesome review! You mentioned that you mostly had this lens on your camera the last few weeks - how often did you find yourself punching into crop mode for a bit more reach? Did you do any street photography, or mostly wide stuff? Really liking the look of this lens - but for the price, hoping it can do double- or triple- duty :) Also, you should let us know how it works out on those upcoming trips!
Great video, and amazing lens. The minimum focus distance is measured from the sensor to the object in focus, not from the end of the lens, so minimum focusing is even closer than indicated.
Stumbled across this video randomly and thought to myself: "oh, he's finally uploaded another video, it's been quite some time." Just saw you've been working hard and uploading every week but that they never show up under my subscriptions. Too bad UA-cam has been hiding your videos from me. I've been a subscriber for months and the last video UA-cam recommended from you was your Tamron review. I really enjoy your videos, it's sucks that you're not getting the exposure you deserve.
Thanks for that, such a shame about UA-cam’s algorithm, I notice the same thing from the people I’m subscribed too as well, no idea why they went with the way it works no opposed to just showing what’s new 🤷🏻♂️ thanks for the support!!!
I was very close to ordering it on amazon the other day but then I saw the waiting time! Maybe I’ll give it a try and hope it arrives in the next two weeks before I go to Japan! 🤞also, looking forward to seeing your astro work using the 24mm!
I got a A7 Mk1 with no ibis and I already got FE 50 F1.8 so i want to lens with good autofocus? I thinking of getting FE 24mm F1.4 GM or FE 16-35mm F2.8 GM vs FE 20mm F1.8 and next year I want to travel to Japan? I am planning to get a new A7 camera in 2023. I like to take picture of airplane, Landscape, Astro, Street photography and travel?
Hi Chris, Great intro! I purchased this 24 1.4 too. Love it. I also have the 16-35 F4 Zeiss like yours. I think I will sell it to get ready for the Tamron 17-28 F2.8. What do you think of that move?
This is exactly the kind of review I needed. You hit all the questions I had. Was tossing up between the 16-35 or this, so you’ve helped the decision. Thanks mate!
and yes, astro looks like a great idea for this lens, all too often lenses of a wide measurement do warp or distort the heck outa yo corners. this looks like a great option for many things. for many people, I suspect this will be on their camera more than off.
Amazing review! Would you recommend it as only lens (for everything but mainly photo for art, architecture and landscape)? I don’t know if a 16-35 could be better
Chris, I've switched to the A7Riii from the 6500 and I still have the Sigma 16mm and 16 -35 art APC lenses. I'm beginning to think that I should be looking into this and maybe the Gmaster 16 -35 does that make sense?
Absolutely, gunna cost you a bit up front but having full frame lenses on a full frame body makes sense.. more so for photo. You then have the ability to use full frame and crop. Look at the 16-35 F4, honestly no need for the GM of that
Hey Chris, I was hoping you could help me with a dilemma I am having atm, I’m not sure if I should get the 7iii or 7riii? For a long time I’ve had my eyes on the 7riii but lately the 7iii sounds like a good option and use the extra money to spend it on a good lens. I need an hybrid camera with no compromise on photography. However coming from the Nikon D800 I have never had any real use for the 36MP. So I don’t really need the 42MB for massive prints but I’m not sure if 24MB is enough to allow minor cropping, particularly for videos when using the crop mode, does it compromises the 4K? Would appreciate your experience :)
Hi Chris! The thing with the 24 is that is not wide enough for establishing shots or vlogging, but is also not close enough for portraits. It kind of falls in the middle (at least for me!). Also any thoughs about the new announced tamron 17-28mm f2.8? It checks a lot of boxes for me: - Vlogging. - Fast (but not as much as 1.4 ofc, but i can do with that). - Light for gimbal work. ¿Do you think this lens can be a replacement of a 16-35 + a prime lens in only 1 lens and also a lot cheaper?
Yeh it’s a strange one, not everyone will like that focal length. For me I love it though! The 17-28 could be potentially huge, even more so than the 28-75.. looking forward to trying it
I’m in between the 24GM f/1.4 nd the 20G f/1.8....I watched your video on the GM but I’m still on the fence. Have you ever used the 20 and can speak on which you prefer?
Chris, I’ve had that 24mm on my list since it was released but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. I had already committed to the Laowa 24mm f14 Macro Probe lens which I have now, but haven’t had a chance to use it. But that 24mm 1.4 is a sweet lens. I have the zooms I want and the 85mm f1.8. But that 24mm 1.4 is beautiful. I’m only buying 1.4 lenses to finish off my kit. Other than (maybe) the 55mm 1.8 but I can’t justify a 55mm when I have an 85mm. I’d rather get a fast 40mm... but I could make myself crazy thinking about it. I have an old 1.4 50mm manual lens that gets me by if needed. I’m also facing the possible leap to the Ninja V because I have a 2 day (all day) shoot that would be much nicer to capture straight to an SSD rather than changing SD cards and needing to restart the camera every 29 minutes. That decision will kill the 1.4 24mm for a while. Anyway, great video and I love that buttery background! I’m sold! It’s funny seeing Peterborough landmarks on UA-cam when I actually live here. Keep up the great (and consistent) work! Cheers
That new ninja looks very nice, have been tempted with it too but I know I won’t use it enough. I agree with your point about 55 and 85. I barely use my 85 now. Lots more Peterborough landmarks to come haha
Great video and helping my buying decision, thanks. Q. I know nothing about video but how did do the test at 6:20? Is someone else focusing behind the camera?
Question for you: I’m thinking of selling my 16-35 f4 and my Sigma 35 1.4 and getting this instead as a good all around minimalistic lens. After a longer term with this, would you recommend it for something like that?
Thank you for your content. Very nice video. Did you have review on Batis 18mm for Sony a7iii? Have you tried any Voigtlander manual focus lense yet? Looking forward to get your feedback. Thanks
I shoot corporative events and wedding, im have the sony 70-200 F4, tamron 28-75 2.8, sony zeiss 50 1.4, sigma 24-35 2.0 and tokina 11-16 2.8, i want a replace the tokina with the 16-34 F4 or 24 F1 4, wich one you do you think is best for me!? Or wait for tamron to released the 17-28 f2.8?
So you keep saying that the depth of field t f/1.4 is tiny. At a focus range of 5 ft. and f/1.4 the depth of field is 1 ft for full frame from what I calculate. It only gets greater from there as you shoot at a longer distance. Seems to me that is quite a lot of depth of field. At 8 ft its 2 ft 8 in. Did forget that I like your video though. Appreciate you taking the time to make it.
I personally have never researched the math behind it nor am I claiming to be an expert.. that being said in real world it’s definitely not 2ft, it’s narrow to the point if my big nose is on focus, my eye may not be haha
Ha, Chris, after watching you run in the snow , I think I know why you got sick! Cute micro second shot of your baby ( I am guessing)! Oh, I am jealous that you got your hands on the 24 f1.4 and suspect that is part of the story as to why you sold off the Tamron 28-75 f 2.8. Where did you get your hands on it?- still backordered last time I looked!
Great video. Just bought the 25mm Batis and about to exchange for this. It's sold out everywhere but was able to find used by luck for $1300. Good decision?
Chris Brockhurst someone might have returned to Amazon. I literally checked 5 or 6 times for availability at a few stores including BH Photo, Adorama, Amazon and none were available and then all of a sudden there was one available on Amazon used for $1300. Good thing about Amazon is if there’s something wrong with it, I can always return.
I just switched to Sony and bought the a7iii with the 24mm 1.4 GM because it’s my favorite focal length and for the price in this category I think it’s a no brainer. Now I am hesitating between the Sonnar T 55mm 1.8 or the 85mm 1.8 for my second lens. Which one should I get considering I have the 24mm? I want versatility but also shoot portrait...
Hey Chris. Nice intro but probably took you a while? Wonder if it’s worth doing that each episode for each product? I’m guessing not. As for Vlogging with this 1.4. I’m thinking no. Especially at 1.4 since it’s so shallow you can go in and out of focus. To get the proper exposure outdoors you probably crank down the f to 4 anyway. So paying big for a fast lens probably isn’t worth it. Plus no stabilization? 👎. The hand held was bouncy. The footage on the gimbal looked great but do you want to put it on a gimbal each time you want to make a quick Vlog comment? No. Anyway keep up the great work.
I've had mine on pre-order since December.. It should be shipping next week according to B&H, but i'm now a little concerned about the AF performance, can you touch upon the AF behavior/settings? Thanks.
I wouldn’t be concerned at all. It behaves exactly as I would expect it to at f1.4 if that’s what’s you are referring too.. super shallow dof always means alot less to focus and little movements will mean it try’s to refocus
Chris Brockhurst The 24 ART from Sigma looks the better value. I prefer native glass, but honestly the AF is not even as good as the much cheaper 28mm f/2. Based on some forum discussions the mechanics on the GM is relatively noisy. I’m having second thoughts.. 🤷🏻♂️
Beyond my comprehension why this lens doesn't have an aperture lock. Like most decent pro-quality lenses of the last 50 years have had. Kind of unforgivable in a lens of this price. Slightly better at the edges than the Sigma 1.4 but is it really worth the hefty premium?
What would you recommend to someone who has? Sony 50mm f1.8 Sony 28mm f2. Canon 24mm-105mm f4l on the A7III to improve quality / lowlight / set completeness
@@chrisbrockhurst This is my only and first lens for the a7iii. Which lens would you recommend to pair with this ? Travel and portrait? 55mm 1.8 zeiss , 50mm 1.4 zeiss, 85mm 1.4 gm
Does it make noise when you change the aperture? On my version, when I change the aperture between 1.4 and 2.8, you can hear an audible noise. As the aperture gets higher (f/5-16) the aperture barely makes any noise.
I need to know. Does your copy of this lens make any noise when focusing in single auto mode? When my copy of the lens is set to any aperture greater than 3.2 and in single autofocus mode it makes a slight grinding noise. This noise increases the smaller the aperture. I ordered a second copy with the intention of returning the first and the second does the same thing!! Does your copy do this? When the aperture opens to 1.4 to focus then stops back down that’s when the noise is created.
Chris Brockhurst can you let me know if you notice it making any sort of grinding noise when in single auto focus mode? Set your aperture to f11 or more and let it acquire focus. The opening and closing of the aperture is when the noise occurs.
I mean.. I don’t like to brag but.. DAT INTRO!!
:D
Oh well, i guess you got a while until you get to Iphonedo's level.. ;)
lmaoooo...pretty cool...you coulda switched into your intro more smoothly though. Dope work Chris :y
Yeh, about 300k subs worth of time 😂
loved it!! you think you could help us with our intro?!
I’ve said this before but I’ll say it again: YOUR VIDEOS ARE SO GOOD!! I’m hooked. I’ve been shooting photos on my phone for about 1.5 year. When this man started runnin with his camera I was like daaayyuuuum! I'm most impressed with that stabilizer. $600, but worth it! Great vid bro!
Honestly thought the same thing in the edit haha.. seriously impressed with how stable it turned out
I just purchased the A7 iii and jusssttt ordered this lens and I AM JACKED UP! Thanks for the review I can't wait to get shooting!
Hands down my fav lens
Hi Chris. To get the best accuracy and speed on AF, try to register the subject face and then use AF Lock settings. It's better than use spot or center AF for your test.
Great review! Best 24mm review in my opinion ⚡️
My man! Thankyou
I've been using the Sony 24mm F1.4 GM for a few months now and I love it for both video and photo.
It feels like a proper lens for a mirrorless camera, it's well balanced when paired with the A7III.
Great video! Cheers!
Agreed, feels like it was made for it. I actually read something recently saying it was equally designed for full frame and apsc too
Can we see some sample photos from you?
Good in depth info for photo and video use. Thanks for taking the time!
Thank you for understanding the time it takes to make 😊
I really want this lens. Now with the 17-28 Tamron coming out, I don’t know if I can justify both, since that is more versatile and will match up with the 28-75 so well. (I know you’re not too crazy about the 28-75, but it has been serving me very well.)
The 17-28 appeals to me wayyyyyyyy more. That wide 17 with F2.8 will be tastyyyyy
Amazing. Got the same lenses. Vario tessar 16-35 f4, zeiss 55 1.8; sony g 85 1.8. And just bought the 24 1.4
nice!!!!!
Answered ALL my questions - first video to do that for this lens :) Thanks buddy!!
Thanks Chris - always enjoy your reviews - honest, well researched and no hype :)
Man, I LOVED the intro of this!!!! Stunning. Also, amazing content and examples. Thanks for cementing that I officially need the Fuji equivalent 16mm f1.4 😜
You already deep down secretly want to buy it 😂
@@chrisbrockhurst lol it's no secret. Wanted to buy it after about 30 secs of having it on my camera at the store. Lol
What kind of filter is that?
so for video you think setting to 2.8 would be better to shoot in? also how would this handle video with hand held shooting on a sony a7iii. I really want this lens but cant find it in stock.
its sold out everywhere!! but a lot of places stopped taking preorders now, thinking it will be coming back in stock everywhere soon. F2.8 works great, I actually just shot a whole video using it as a test and looks amazing!
Ryan Gosling reviews a lens in chav's clothes. ;D Thanks for the video.
Movies aren’t working out for me anymore 😂
Could you please do a video comparing to the 16mm sigma 1.4? Or let me know what I’m missing out on? Not sure if I should break the bank w this lens
Nice video...
Would you use the 20 or the 24mm for vlogging ?
20 and 24 are both ok. A bit tighter but entirely useable.
@@chrisbrockhurst thank you
Hey Chris, Yes agree 100% with your review.
The sigma is such a good lens for the price. I wish they made a full frame version that cheap
Thanks for the awesome review! You mentioned that you mostly had this lens on your camera the last few weeks - how often did you find yourself punching into crop mode for a bit more reach? Did you do any street photography, or mostly wide stuff? Really liking the look of this lens - but for the price, hoping it can do double- or triple- duty :)
Also, you should let us know how it works out on those upcoming trips!
Great video, and amazing lens.
The minimum focus distance is measured from the sensor to the object in focus, not from the end of the lens, so minimum focusing is even closer than indicated.
You are 100% right. I Should have got more specific and mentioned the little mark showing where the sensor is, whoops
Thanks for another great video, Chris. That’s definitely a lens I’m considering getting in the future.
Cheers Matt
Nice review! I actually just ordered this lens!! It will be here in a couple of days! Sounds like I'm really going to like it!
enjoy!
I currently own only GMaster lenses, and all have the lens hood button.
You got the special lenses 😊
Chris Brockhurst Sadly for me, the lens quality doesn’t make the photographer/videographer! I’m enjoying the journey though!
I just got mine, first GM in my kit too.
Amazing, how do you like it?
Hi Chris! Just wondering how did you do that intro? It's so cool! Thanks for the video and it's really influenced me wanting this lens!
Hey David. It was all lighting effects. I did a whole video on it titled something like 'dramatic lighting' You will love the 24mm!!
@@chrisbrockhurst thank you! I'll check it out!
Very usefull knowladge. Thx a lot !
Man I been searching for this lens over 3 months and I lucky got my hand on it last week. Hasn't left my a7III yet!!!
It’s still sooooo hard to get hold of, but once you get it... ooooooooooohhhhhh 👌🏻
Javed White where’d u get it from?
Amazon. Said it would take 2 months or so and came in 7 days haha
Quasir Facebook Marketplace. I found a guy in there who was dumping all his Sony gear cause he was going EOS mirrorless. I got lucky lol
Chris Brockhurst LoL Wow that’s amazing!
I have the sigma 16 f1.4 for my apsc cameras, love this focal length and aperture
Such a good lens for APSC.. maybe my favourite for it to be honest
Wish I got this one, but my first and only gm lens is the 70200. I love it, just like you will love this 24 gm.

which car do you drive ?
and do you gonna get the new tamron leases ??
17-28 f2.8 looks cool
Haha that’s a strange question, why do you ask? A Kia Sorento though.
I recorded my last video with the lens. It was a rental, but I’m seriously considering buying it.
Nice! I’m amazed somewhere had this as a rental that was readily available
Chris Brockhurst I had to reserve it about a month in advance. 😂
Next lens on my list. If only it were in stock!! Great vid, Chris! :)
Try Amazon.. it said 2-3 months for delivery and came the next week!!!

I like to take picture of airplane, Landscape, Astro, Street photography and travel?
I'd really consider this option... looks like a very cool vlogging lens. And it isn't too big, which is always a bonus.
Yeh it’s size is incredible for what it can do!
the reason why its not focusing right on 1.4 on video is because the A7III doesn't have eye autofocus and generally not as quick as the A7S3.
Hi Chris, Great intro! I purchased this 24 1.4 too. Love it. I also have the 16-35 F4 Zeiss like yours. I think I will sell it to get ready for the Tamron 17-28 F2.8. What do you think of that move?
I have thought about it.. will see how the lens does initially and decide from there. The 2.8 is appealing though
Nice video, as always :-) Were you able to balance it perfectly WITH the Manfrotto QR on the Weebill Lab unlike with the 16-35?
I have actually switched from Manfrotto plates to arca now so haven’t tried... that being said it’s much lighter so I think it would be fine 😊
Excelente, its my lens
How do you like it?
Looks Ultra HQ / 4K with some cinematic style... All that I need... 👌🏼

ive done a whole video covering it before, search dramatic lighting and my name, youll find it. Thanks for stopping by!
I hope you still reply to this but is there a cheaper alternative to this stunning lens??
Unfortunately not... it stands on its own! there is a Sigma version but its HUGE and HEAVY
Also, did you test everything with a monitor attached or without?
Monitors disables the AF face detection of the Sony A7III
With a monitor for some parts, the AF still works completely fine just m Face detection stops working though
Thanks
Hey! I haven’t tried the batis nor any voigtlander lens, maybe in the future 😊
really good video, i definetly need that lens ^^
everybody does ;)
Hey Chris it’s been 2 years, do you still recommend this lens !? For video?
Great Review! Soo if you need to pick one lens between 16-34 F4 or 24 F1.4 wich one do you choose?
Very tough haha. What you shoot?
I shoot corporative events and wedding, im have the sony 70-200 F4, tamron 28-75 2.8, sony zeiss 50 1.4, sigma 24-35 2.0 and tokina 11-16 2.8, i want a replace the tokina with the 16-34 F4 or 24 F1
4, wich one you do you think is best for me!? Or wait for tamron to released the 17-28 f2.8?
I’d say wait for the new tamron and then make the decision to be honest
Ha,ha- finally got my copy of the 24 f1.4 four days ago and I am in love....
Question...I’m debating getting the 16-35 f4 and/or the 24 1.4. Are you going to keep both or sell one? If so, which one will you keep?
Right now I plan on keeps my both, that may change in the future but for now both have their place ✌🏻
Hello thanks for this video . Do you think 24mm 1.4 GM is a good choice for A7iii on the Ronin SC gimball ?
Well done! I have the 16-35 Gmaster f2.8 and it is insane. May need to get this one as well. I prefer prime lenses :)
thet 16-35 GM is a beast!!
@@chrisbrockhurst Ideal for Real Estate Videos! :)
what is "clear image zoom" ?
Great video. Just bought the 25mm Batis and about to exchange for this. It's sold out everywhere but was able to find used by luck for $1300. Good decision?
maybe? check it fully first and test everything out! I would question why someone is selling it to!
Hey, is this the m Oberon hoodie in Tentrees website? You have a fantastic taste in clothing
Hahah thanks! They actually don’t make that hoodie anymore but there are ones similar. It is ten tree though
If you could choose one prime with 1.4, would you choose 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, or 85mm for Sony FE?
So hard to pick!! It honestly depends what you are shooting
Wow that was so so smooth. The weebil lab I mean
Haha the running right!?
I have sony a7siii with 24 1.4 GM itake a very loud autofocus noise
I just switched to Sony and bought the a7iii with the 24mm 1.4 GM because it’s my favorite focal length and for the price in this category I think it’s a no brainer.
Now I am hesitating between the Sonnar T 55mm 1.8 or the 85mm 1.8 for my second lens. Which one should I get considering I have the 24mm?
I want versatility but also shoot portrait...
personally i love the 85 1.8 for price to performance, but if you're the type for whom money is no object, get whichever you like :P
senor frog I went for the 85, I’ll get the 55 in a couple of months.
I think the 85 better suits my needs for now.
Is the autofocus works perfectly when I make the aperture 2.8 (Fixed) on the video? Your answer will be very important for me. Thank You.
Hi, what do you think about sigma 20mm art and what's better 20 or 24? Thanks for this video!
Haven’t used it, sorry!!
You need to collect all the GM lenses Chris!! 😆🤩
Andrew Pham haha maybeeeeee. Brb, gotta call my bank 🙈
@@chrisbrockhurst You mean get approval from the wife!
But are people bought this lens for the Bokeh? Since its a bit on the wider side and you can achieve "beast"-er bokeh with other primes
You can, but not the same look or effect
What would you recommend to someone who has?
Sony 50mm f1.8
Sony 28mm f2.
Canon 24mm-105mm f4l
on the A7III to improve quality / lowlight / set completeness
Seems like you have a good setup to be honest, have you looked at the Tamron??
@@chrisbrockhurst it's almost perfect, except for that it's 28mm hahah. 28mm is a bit awkward.
Great video dude (Y)
Thanks Stefan!
Alright Chris, you gotta explain how you did that gaff work.
Gunna do a video on it, it’s actually incredibly easy!!
I'd be interested to seeing a comparison between this and a canon L series 1.4 (if they have it)
Just need to get a canon body and then that lens haha
@@chrisbrockhurst I guess ignorance really is bliss.
It focuses very fast.
Needs that new eye auto focus
Just got this lens. Taking it to VN next week.
Ooooo have fun!!! Take some amazing photos. Jealous
@@chrisbrockhurst This is my only and first lens for the a7iii. Which lens would you recommend to pair with this ? Travel and portrait? 55mm 1.8 zeiss , 50mm 1.4 zeiss, 85mm 1.4 gm
hahaha love the ending.. ya SONY give us flippyyys!! (on the A7 series that is) :)
truth right haha
How does this lens compare to the 16mm f1.4 cause isnt it 24mm with the apsc mode, i know you lose some f stop as well but what are ur thoughts?
Great question.. this is actual full frame. So if you are taking photos too no reduce file size limitation, you will also get actual F1.4
Chris Brockhurst oh yeah! But the 16 on a full frame is 24! Just wondering what he other differences were besides losing a little light
3:15 Doesn't look like your auto ISO is working. ?
Does it make noise when you change the aperture? On my version, when I change the aperture between 1.4 and 2.8, you can hear an audible noise. As the aperture gets higher (f/5-16) the aperture barely makes any noise.
when its de-clicked it doesn't make any noticeable sound
Does anyone hear their aperture blades moving when switching between wider f-stops?
I need to know. Does your copy of this lens make any noise when focusing in single auto mode? When my copy of the lens is set to any aperture greater than 3.2 and in single autofocus mode it makes a slight grinding noise. This noise increases the smaller the aperture. I ordered a second copy with the intention of returning the first and the second does the same thing!! Does your copy do this? When the aperture opens to 1.4 to focus then stops back down that’s when the noise is created.
I haven’t noticed it, but doesn’t mean it doesn’t do it!
Chris Brockhurst can you let me know if you notice it making any sort of grinding noise when in single auto focus mode? Set your aperture to f11 or more and let it acquire focus. The opening and closing of the aperture is when the noise occurs.
The AF just seems too laggy to depend on for gimbal video work.
Would this Sony 24mm F1.4 lens be any good for lightning photography?
