I have the gen 2 King Kombo in the 6’ and the 8’. Overall, sturdy and safe. The thing with the corner guard/ screw tray opening buttons popping out gone- different kind of mechanism now. One thing I found handy is that the 8’ in A frame mode is that a common 6’ stockade fence fits underneath without touching it, allowing you to get to both sides of a long run without having to walk all the way around. With a regular mid support strut step ladder, you would need something like a giant 16’! Also, when you use, say, the 6’ model in long ladder configuration, if you are able to work off the mid step you have a very safe and comfy double-deep rung/ platform to stand on.
i got a warner x5 because of your video here . i'm a BIG guy and the x5 is absolutely the sturdest feeling ladder i've ever been on ! thanks dude and take care , jeff
Great video, thanks for taking the time. This could be the blueprint for how to discuss products/tools. The detail, fantastic, the "real-world use" discussion, reaching too far, all of it really great. Thank you!
Man, why didn't I notice your video two days ago, I already ordered the Little Giant and although it's originally priced for $300, I got it for $200 and even with that $100 off, the Lean Safe Werner is $129 and more practical, I hate returning stuff
Little Giant King Kombo is nice, the aluminum bracket seems structurally stronger than the Werner design as far as (failure point) if you go too far however the Orenge buttons make you question the main buttons on the King Kombo
Funny I came across this video,as I have been looking at the king combo as I ned a new ladder. But I was looking at the Big Giant, give me food for thought now.
A Little Giant representative came to my job to demo their ladders and that pad on the top that came off on you, came off on him too. He was just rotating it and it popped off.
I have the Werner, but the yellow plastic handle is now broken after less than a year, and no parts or repairs available. Loved it, but now it's useless.
The KingKombo has now been redesigned since this 4 year old video. Both major negatives mentioned here have been fixed. Maybe a good idea for the OP to edit.
to get on my patio roof- often to access these just hit thje fascia and offer no legs above roof line for security getting up an down / needs an extra foot
You forgot to mention the thickness of the rungs after the 6th A Frame. The rungs on the little giant after 6ft is only held by 6 screws. 3 on each side. The Werner ladder rungs look way more sturdier. Obviously your not supposed to climb pass the 6th rung but would feel much more comfortable with the Werner.
It’s irrelevant if the rungs are 3 screws or 3 posts. It’s still ANSI rated at 375. This model Little giant was altered from 2 buttons to release the extension to a simple easy to use bar that is operated with one hand. Also it’s lighter that the Werner built better and functions much better. The 2 plastic levers on the Werner that release the extension are cheap and could be broken off in time IMO. For $20 more the new design little giant is definitely better. Both are USA made!
Gotcha. On my 100 yo old the gutters are 14’ off the ground, I use a 16’ extension for the gutters. This only goes to 10’ so it won’t work on accessing my roof but if your house is a 7’- 8’ ceiling type it would definitely work.
@@LaGrandeBayou haha yeah definitely not working for your application. I can access my roof from my deck which is only 7-8 feet so this would be a good all around ladder except for when I need to drag out the extension ladder for high up exterior work.
Another thing is I just found out that he doesn’t mention here but both ladder models are easier to tip over in A-Frame position. Due to the narrower front feet. Also the they no longer have the copper insert bar that clicks. Enough people complaining got them to nix that because Little Giants are made in the USA unlike those crappy Werner built in Mexico, and they still charge nearly $200 for that rattle trap!
I appreciate his nonbias review, but this review is a little unfair, he is using the old-style King Kombo. Little Giant was the first to make these kinds of ladders and others just copied them. They have improved different features over the years. To be fair, compare it to the new style of King Kombo found at Lowe's. It is has a single handle adjustment, and the quality is way better than Werner. It comes in 4,6, and 8ft models (not just 6ft) in both fiberglass and aluminum. We have one of the old ones and one of the new models we use every day and the new one is way better!!!
@@jarrydee2799 the new king kombo is way better then this old one the $200 price is worth the quality. I have used both ladders. I am a 300lb guy the werner feels flimsy it doesn't lock tight, it creeks and flexes the little giant 2.0 is the way to go for bigger guys who want a multiuse ladder. And the new one hand locking release mechanism is way better on the new little giant, the werner squeeze release is finicky and as I said before doesn't lock tight
Absolutely not with these ladders. You cannot stand on top and you must be careful in A-Frame position because the front extension is NARROWER than the main frame thus this ladder is a tad more tipsy than a traditional A-Frame.
When it comes to new designs, the copy is always an improvement. The King Kombo served me well for the past year. From what I can see on the flaws of the Werner: ~The steps are not leveled on both side, must be awkward carrying that on your shoulders. ~Those are some narrow ass trays, will be a pain to grab anything out of them. ~Yellow + Orange, that looks just wrong. ~The rubber feet on the narrow side have a smaller surface area, makes it even easier to tip over.
I use the little giant for a couple months it have like a 1/4 or 1/2 play when you are using it as a normal ladder I almost felt while standing in the last step recommended in the label I end up returning it ! They need to fix that problem to much liability , I was wondering if the Werner have the same issue ?
Believe it's the locking mechanism. Mine does the same. Didn't realize that till I was getting back on the ladder off of one of my loads. Just a little bit of play when it's locked in. Love it, just wish it was taller when fully extended. Use it daily for the last 19 months and really no issues. Had one of the lock release buttons pop out a couple but was able to pop it back in. It's out in the weather all the time too (its stored right in front of trailer air and electrical lines for trailers on my semi).
Screw Werner, I’ll never buy another . I’m a Louisville guy, needed a new 16’ extension ladder . Thought I’d try Werner , I’ve owned a few before, they frickin made the rungs smaller so you cant get ladder standoffs in the holes . I was so disappointed in Werner , and the fact that they don’t even make 16’ industry standard rungs , it’s bullshit , I’ll stick to little Giant and Louisville. At least they don’t go as cheap and sneakily change shit . Columbia, Keller, and Alaco we’re the best, too bad they all are extinct now…

You forgot to mention that the Little Giant King Kombo is made in America. The Werner is made in Mexico.
So it was made by a Mexican that works in a US factory.
So, stick with the OG. Which is Werner.
Mexico is part of North America.
“So stick with Werner”
No. Don’t and you can thank me later.
@@LaGrandeBayou Why not?
Nice review… it looks like little giant took your advice and got rid of the lock buttons… They now have a “grip and go” hinge release like the Warner
Little giant's new button system on the king kombo works really good. One handed all day

So sell to someone that might need a king combo until than enjoy the combo till you wish to purchase the Werner
Excellent video thanks. Calling my paint store for the Werner
Good honest review...thanks

The updated little giant fixes those problems love mine
Are the new models the ones with a HAND LEVER instead of the two orange buttons to lock/unlock?
I came here to see if I should get a 6' or an 8'. The first 20 seconds answered that!
Thank so much for this review
A Little Giant representative came to my job to demo their ladders and that pad on the top that came off on you, came off on him too. He was just rotating it and it popped off.
Sounds like it needs something to retain it to keep it form popping out.

That flip out thing is a deal killer

Edit
Werner is not USA made
But Mexico.
Because Werner sucks
One thing every video has not mentioned is when the ladders are extended can you stand on the upper steps past the hinge area or not?
Yes but you can typically only go up another rung or 2 because your typically hitting the ceiling or too close to the wall to use a tool effectively.
@@LaGrandeBayou good point. I was just curious in case you needed to do something like get on a roof ,clean a gutter or something higher up.
