The artificial gravity on the moonbase is incredible. It pulls down everything except Gabrielle Drake's bosom.
They are equiped with anti artificial gravity inducers.
The gravity's only a sixth so they don't weigh as much so they will be on an higher elevation lol
@@alanscoffins3148 Thats true outside the base, but they have said that the base has artificial gravity.
Gabrielle, a wonderful actress who had that prophetic purple hair in UFO, was able to levitate a lot of things in my youth as I recall
You need a Time Machine for that..😔
I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this. It brings back childhood memories. Jon Culshaw was spot on with the voice of the late Ed Bishop.
Sorry this guy doe not sound a thing like Ed Bishop, he also has a southern accent.
@@hanskurtmann6781@tonycharlton4296 said “voice” not “accent”! 😉
I thought he did in the first UFO section but it fell off after that. Still not bad

UFO was a great series.
Love how you connected two of my favourite 1970's scifi shows that were originally intended to be, and really should have been, one continuous show or show+sequel. It's really too bad that Space: 1999 as we got it never referenced UFO at all, at least as far as I recall.
The new Big Finish Space: 1999 audiobooks certainly do... and one of the original stories has them visiting what's clearly supposed to be the planet of the UFO aliens.
Keeping my favorite shows from the past fresh and up to date! Thank you for these videos.
I remember this show ... that IBM Selectric ball typing out stuff, that brunette computer operator ... damn.
Loved this! Brightened up my night, enthused the ol' imagination, thank you!
What a great tribute. Thanks for taking the time to put this all together.
The show I didn't know I was waiting for. I'm so excited!!!!
Well done! An outstanding production. Thank you!
I love this narration about the TV show UFO there needs to be more segments like this very fascinating
Interesting. They can build (not just repair) Eagles in the hanger. That explains why they never ran out of them. Oh, and the vehicle seen :28 in is from the Gerry Anderson series Joe 90.
I remember having the toy's from this series and loved playing with them. Also "Captain Scarlet"....Brilliant! It would be great if they made these toy's as collectables cause I'd certainly buy them again!
Fantastic explanation of hardware ! Good someone is still keeping this show alive.
We sure are. Seen this? shop.gerryanderson.com/products/ufo-s-h-a-d-o-technical-operations-manual-standard-and-special-edition-hardcover-book
Thank you so much, I grew up watching these great shows!
This TV show SHOULD have gotten at least one more season (series).
They were shown later and later in the evening on British television. They didn’t know what to do with a brand that had essentially been kids puppet shows but now had gorgeous women in silver catsuits and gorgeous men and women in see through mesh clothing. There was a held back episode containing a woman stripping to seduce Stryker.
i love how ufo and space fit into each other so well.
NIce connection of Space 1999 and UFO and confirming how many subs there were. Also, how Moon Base Alpha always had Eagles manufactured in the moon itself, clever!
Many thanks for another great video , guys! Any cghance of a Tech Talk on S.I.D. at some time in the future? Was surprised to see how big it really was in the episode where it required repairs and would love to know the secrets inside it.
Excellent, thank you.
My favourite two Gerry Anderson shows in one film....as things turned out it was a good job the Straker Protocols were in place when Moonbase Alpha was designed and built
oh this coupled with the shado technical manual provide so much detail into the shows world
A bit stranger to have the Eagle Transporter in the video, but still, great Compilation!
Space 1999 was series two of UFO, hence it similarities.
WOW!!! This was very informative!!! 😮
Wow that voice makes everything feel so real.
Da da da ta da da da, Da da da ta da da da.. LOL Never gets old, huge Anderson fan got every single one of their or his shows on DVD Or Blu ray From Supercar to Thunderbirds (originals of course) and everything inbetween. I wish they had done that UFO movie to bad it fell through..As Ed White was going to be in it, for those who don't know go to the Gerry Anderson fan site or search for it.
worth setting an alarm for 530 in the morning - 🛸✨
THIS ICONIC, LANDMARK AND DEFINING SCIENCE FICTION SHOW DESERVES A REBOOT ! ! ! I WANT MORE ADVENTURES AND I AM SURE YOU DO TOO ! ! !👍
AI will be your friend to make new episodes with the original cast.
Respect. Thankyou. Always
Nice !
Thanks
Outstanding
Great Technical Breakdown, Now Please Do One For Space:1999 ! ! ! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Incredible practical effects that still stand up. 😉
Supermarionation without the marionettes 😂
I remember watching that show as a kid.
UFO was great show. Another Gerry Anderson favourite of mine To bad there wasn’t another season. Then of course Space1999 wouldn’t of happen . Space:1999 another one my favourites too. pre stories to Space1999.
This is one Gary Anderson show I have never seen and still haven't seen it. All I know about it was in starlog mag and the toy ads in mags.
The one? What about Space Precinct? Dick Spanner? New Captain Scarlet? There’s a huge amount to explore!
Omg. When will they ever redo the series today? With today's effects it wud look fantastic!!!
Hell no. It would be woke as f***
Interesting including the Eagles in the UFO tech report. I know Space 1999 was originally UFO Season 2. I wonder how a reboot of UFO would deal with that? I'd love to see the Mark IX hawks vs the UFO's.
Fui uma criança de sorte por ver isso na TV no Brasil nos anos 70. Obrigado
Love the nod of respect to Ed Bishop by naming the Surface to Space missiles after him.
Congratulations on being literally the first person to mention that - glad I snuck it in there now! :)
I just found out that the 'studio' in U.F.O was also the hospital in Holby City!
The reason the UFO's could not usually achieve direct hits when they fired their lasers, is that flying in their saucers made them very, very dizzy.
One thing that always bothered me about moonbase was having the lunar module landing and launch platform actually being on top of one of the modules.
I'd have thought they would of been located away from the main moonbase structures for safety reasons.
There are a lot of things like that, such as why would you design your primary Earth atmosphere interceptor to launch from a submarine? Why would Shado allow anyone to see Straker without first doing a complete background check and why would Straker's secretary let anyone into his office without an escort? Why would you use a bunch of tracked vehicles like tanks to search the British countryside, and why the heck would you mark them for Shado, when a helicopter could do it faster and way less obtrusively? How come UFOs aren't constantly attacking S.I.D.? Why hide headquarters under a movie studio which really is no more secretive than a nondescript building in a commercial district somewhere? And how is it that UFOs can survive traveling across light-years of interstellar space but put them in Earth's atmosphere and they start to disintegrate? I mean, yeah, we used to have acid rain but it wasn't THAT bad lol.
@@Cryptonymicus "why would you design your primary Earth atmosphere interceptor to launch from a submarine? " So it could be hidden. 70% of the earth is ocean, so it could be hiding anywhere.
"Why hide headquarters under a movie studio" They explained that it allowed and take out them to bring in strange looking vehicles and such without drawing attention. IF asked, they would say it was being moved to a movie location for a shoot.
"how is it that UFOs can survive traveling across light-years of interstellar space but put them in Earth's atmosphere and they start to disintegrate?" Chemical reaction to something in our atmosphere.
One thing that has always puzzled me is that how on earth did the astronauts manage to enter the moonbase when the shuttlecraft ended up resting on its exhaust engine!
@@robertlindo8058 The gantry had an elevator
Hardly mentioned the Moonbase Interceptor? 🤔
Over and above the Shado Mobile, it was my favourite craft of the show! (As a child! I adored my Dinky toy version back then, too, even though it was painted a weird green!!! 😆). After SID sounded the alarm, it was the first, and key defence vehicle against the UFOs! A gorgeous (and totally impractical design) with that awesome great missile sticking out of the front.....it looked amazing on-screen! 👍
A 'one-shot wonder' (if it hit the target!! No wonder there were three of them launched! 😆). Sad they hardly got a mention in this show though..... even if they were a bit pants really! 😜
There's a whole video on it :)
First a question: have any novels been written set in the UFO universe? I've looked around but was surprised to find none. :( It seems to be a massive missed opportunity.
I've been a Gerry Anderson fan since before I can remember (am 46). I only found out about UFO a few months ago. I'd seen some Space 1999 and kind of liked it, but this is on another level. I'm deeply in love with this show for so many reasons. I immediately went out and bought the DVDs, but I'm trying to go through them very slowly because I know I'll be very sad when I get to the end. The show combines the 70s aesthetic I love, sci-fi, X Files creapy-ness, Anderson-ness, and of course an amazing cast of characters. Was very sad to find out Ed Bishop had passed. He's incredible in UFO. That voice! I giggled with delight when I figured out why I recognised him: he plays Captain Blue's voice, and does the opening narration. I know you know all this, but I didn't. :)
Anyway, thank you!!
Good question...👍
I believe there are at least 2 UFO novels and countless comics.
I remember buying two awfully colored comics a year or two after the series ended - I think a good tabletop rpg to play for a UFO might be a homebrew of 'Delta Green'.
There was a novel (at least one) I can remember the cover but not much about the text. I think it was a straight novelisation of "Identified" and the second episode, where Foster was recruited
When I was a kid, I visited Italy in the 70s and saw they had large format magazines that were essentially “photo novelizations” of episodes comprised of show stills and descriptions (in Italian of course). I bought a couple of UFO ones. I also had some UFO 3D Viewmaster slides that were awesome.
Fantastic ships !
This video lays out my EuropMillions Jackpot spending plan.
I had many dinky toy's of the spacecraft as a kid thanks to a English shop at the London Bridge in Lake Havasu.
How about an episode on the weapons of SHADO?
WHAT A SURPRISE SPACE:1999 WAS INCLUDED IN THE TECH TALK!!!GARY BAILEY
What about S.I.D. (Space Intruder Detector)?
SHADO would have been defenseless, without S.I.D. It's the only piece of equipment that could speak.
Maintains scans for UFO’s
i often wondered how sky 1 redocked with skydiver as you never saw it happen in any of the episodes. but i more or less guessed how it actually did.
Uh I thought this was about the vehicles used in the show ufo 🛸 , the eagle 🦅 shuttle is from the show space:1999, the only link between the two shows is the shado moon base.
Legendary Shadow mobile control battle tank
I'd like to know how the model makers made the vehicles. I know they used some Airfix model parts for some details of the spaceships but was the UFO just a green LED, a Tupperware bowl, an egg whisk & some spoons?
11:27)Pilots' READY ROOM.The Interceptors carried one torpedo. It would be logical to have more than three on a mission.
I like to see a segment dedicated to the moon base interceptors with an explanation as to why they only carried one missile each.
SHADO Interceptor: Century 21 Tech Talk [2.3] | Hosted by General Ed Straker [UFO]
ua-cam.com/video/DEEWO7XHYU8/v-deo.html
@@GerryAndersonTV Thanks for the link. I did not know the interceptors had a secondary weapon.
What is the propelling system?
Ed bishop was a great actor R.I.P.
good
How about Fab facts the influence of Cpatain Scarlet:The Pirate Tugs:charecters Created by David Mitton who worked on it Thomas nad Friends and of course TUGS:The Pirate Tugs have booming voices and .......twin green eyes . THE MYSTERONS!!!!
Deborah Grant had everything. She should've been a massive star
Okay then but What about Beyond Anderson Episode 7 Francis Matthews
Normally these things make a bit of scientific sense… but I don’t get the “hover cruise” mode of skydiver… Apparently can do 65 knots under water, but the hydroplane surface “hover cruise” mode is 25 knots!
Such a wonderful show U.F.O. I bought it when it came out on DVD. So many hot ladies.
I'm interested in finding out more on "General Straker" and his life after SHADO. Where does this come from? Is it from a book or website? A fanfic? Or did you make it up for these videos?
I'd be grateful for any info/links.
I find myself wondering who's head of SHADO now.
@@Setebos SHADO was shut down after the Alien War of the 1980s, he was the sole head of the organisation, transferring to the WSS shortly after SHADO was closed down. WIN were folded into the ranks of the WSS in 2018, two years before this video takes place.
@@ACtheLegend Where does this information come from? I don't know anything about this.
@@peterjohnson4932 Part of the backstory spread across series 2 of tech talk, developed for the series to fill in the gap between UFO and Terrahawks :)
@@ACtheLegend Thanks.
i would have liked to see this back in 1970 😁
Better late than never!
@@GerryAndersonTV I feel like I just secretly joined SHADOW 😁
I guess the Interceptors are above top secret!!!… 😎
I always thought it was commander Straker?
He’s been promoted since 1980…
The Earth’s Moon would have become the new moon of Mars.
Ma non è per caso che l'atmosfera del nostro pianeta fosse, per qualche motivo a noi sconosciuto, corrosiva per gli ufo?
sky one looks like a british tornado lol
I FIND THIS ABSOLUTELY FASCINATING!!!GARY BAILEY KING OF DARKNESS AND GOD OF THUNDER AND LIGHTNING
I had made a shado mobile tank
Was just thinking of that, trying to decide which tank chassis to start with
As I read the first line I thought, yea that would make a cool fish tank.
@@SpamMouse Avengers tank It was before
Um.. One of those vehicles in the intro was from Joe 90 not UFO at 00:28
Because this video is a compilation of episodes from a series that featured other craft :)
9:46 Never noticed the spelling mistakes before
Where's that Hawk?
An Eagle would be an EV in reality.
And you thought they were just hunks of plastic.
It's a U-FO!
At 11:31, Benedict Cumberbatch's mother...
It was a fun show, but the timelines in this Universe were way optimistic. We didn't have SSTs and daily moonshots in 1984, let alone Space 1999 technology in 1999. And artificial gravity for the Moon base? We don't even have a theory on how to do that yet. They could have bumped it up a hundred years and not necessarily have been too far off.
Some other the tech decisions that Shado made were pretty ridiculous too. Keeping their air force underwater and having only four fighter jets available to cover the entire planet are two obvious flaws. Printing the name of their secret organization on all of their secret hardware was probably also a bad idea. One thing that wasn't a mistake--having only one nuclear warhead per moon interceptor was probably fine. With the UFOs being encountered at SOL 8 (8 times the speed of light), it's a miracle that they were ever detected, intercepted and fired on at all--frankly, it's like trying to intercept a beam from a searchlight midway as it travels between the ground and the clouds.
I was very young when UFO was first on the small screen. I did not understand why in the moon base the women had PURPLE hair and completely different uniforms compared to what the men wore. Were they robots? Many years later I found out Sylvia Anderson had apparently been in control of the wardrobe department. Apparently, she thought this is what future military uniforms would look like...
Because I was several years older when Space 1999 came out I liked it much more than UFO, although the second show had its own fair share of all kinds of sillyness. IMHO Space: 1999 was the better show. When I now watch UFO episodes again, it seems that show did not age well.
Should we be giving the enemy access to such sensitive data?
私が子供の頃、見てました。
懐かしいです‼️(*^-^*)へ
Well, I know, this is not meant to be perfectly real, but the "Eagle" is complete BS - even nuclear powered rocket motors need some form of propellant (to be heated by the nuclear fusion reactors) to create thrust, and those would need much more storage space than is shown in the design. And it would not be able to operate in atmosphere (there's so much speed to shed when trying to enter the atmosphere, I doubt that this would be feasible). But for the moon, well, maybe, if it had larger propellant tanks … (same with some of the other designs shown here). Still, nice to watch!
🙃
DEAR PC MCINTYRE, AND THANK THE LORD FOR THAT!!!GARY BAILEY KING OF DARKNESS AND GOD OF THUNDER AND LIGHTNING
He keeps mentioning that the UFO war ended. Is that canon? IF so where?
I would love to see Joss Whedon take a crack at it.
It’s always irritated me that ‘S.H.A.D.O.’ Can only refer to the main headquarters itself…
…The rest is presumably just the ‘A.D.O.’
😂
Proposition
9:17 -- The narrator has an American accent, so why does he say "sheduled"?
As a very diligent commander working in the UK, General Straker has actively and consciously picked up a number of Anglicised pronunciations of words including this one, in order to better integrate with his primarily British team.
Americans say sheduled too.
Benedict Cumberbach's mother works for shado. Maybe the moon not having an atmosphere must turns women hair purple.
You dare speak of logic while saying you foe?
🏳️🌈🏳️🌈🏳️🌈💞🙏👍
"Youfoes"? Behave!
?
Now guys! Those women(on Ufo)were “well proportioned’They had lovely bodies, sure, but were there to work on Moonbase, and do their job for Commander Straker! We don’t watch this show to;”get horney’,because, gorgeous women are on there! It’s purely for entertainment purposes!Which reminds me….I first saw Ufo in the fourth grade in 1971,so,I assume,it was the spring or fall of that year? They tried to make a new Ufo serie’s,I’ve heard. But,I think this failed because, the show had a lack of funding and support of good actor’s?And,yes! You do “have to match”the actor with the character that their playing! This make’s for a good character in the show!We can alway’s do re-runs of show’s that we grew up with!🩰🎷🎸🛬🛫🛸🛥🌠Too,book’s based on the Ufo series “brings back”the character’s,too!
Thanks for Gerry and his wife Sylvia Anderson, for U.F.O. and Space 1999 series, them are idols for my age.🥹
