Gerry Anderson, will you ever do more of some of the other cast?? 🤔 Frances Matthews, Janna Hill, etc etc, would love to know more, will never get bored 😀
Gerry Anderson, thank you very much!! I really wish he did more than 8 of the audio episodes, he could quite easily have narrated all 32 episodes, his voice strikes the right cord!! 😀

Gerry Anderson Ed Straker..no doubt at all...greetings...
Ed Bishop had a Superb voice period. His delivery is top 10 all time. What makes him so special too me is his use of British vocabulary but in his Boston accent. Brilliant Performer.
Ed Bishop... what a total sci-fi legend🌌‼️: Commander Straker from UFO, Captain Blue from Captain Scarlett & The Mysterons, Space Pilots from Space 2001 - A Space Odyssey & Saturn 3, Detective Elijah Bailey from Asimov's Caves of Steel as well as the narrator from Stephen King's audio drama's: I am the Doorway/One for the Road + Ray Bradbury's Sunset on Shoreline. RIP you awesome-eternal legend ☄️☄️☄️
Great actor, that deserved a lot more starring roles. UFO will always be a timeless success, and his role as Ed Bishop will always be a big part of that success.😢

Mr. Ed Bishop, one of the most talented, yet underappreciated actor in his time... The quality of his work, and well as his reputation off camera, speak for itself.

UFO 🛸 👽 ED BISHOP still going after all These years .... I watched this first time Round in the 70s and still repeated a few Months ago in 2022 ... BRILLIANT 😎
I had the pleasure of spending a month looking after Ed Bishop during his visit to Australia back in the 90s. He was an absolutely lovely man! I enjoyed this look back over his life, this was a very nice video.
Wow I didn't realise he passed on just days after Billington. I had only just discovered a website that belonged to Billington back in 2005 and I wrote on his message wall at the time that I was a fan of both he and Bishop and that they made UFO such a fantastic show. Within a couple of weeks he died, I was grateful to have said my appreciation for his work in time, it was a shame he and Bishop died too young. Thanks for this great bio.
He has no idea, how many people adored his Commander Straker. It was a part of my high school days. It got so bad, there was a circle of friends, each one of us was a character out of the series. I was Alec Freeman. Lol.
Ed Bishop did a fantastic job in U.F.O. I remember it as a kid and bought it when first released on DVD That was expensive then but so worth it. Always remember Gabrielle Drake and Wanda Ventham. So beautiful. Show was so well dun and fantastic plots. Thanks so much.
Ed Bishop as Commander Straker is an indelible part of my childhood experience. Watching UFO, the future was exciting. As a kid, I had a hair cut like Commander Straker's. . That blonde hair leaves a permanent imprint. I hoped he would be brought onto Space;1999 for contrast years later linking UFO with the series. Alas, it did not happen.
Yeah, if UFO 2 HAD to die and be re-worked into Space 1999, it would have been nice if they had at least carried over the Straker character, but ITC and the American studios nuked any chance of that, as I understand.
UFO was a great part of my Saturday afternoons as a kid. Thunderbirds in the morning, Space 1999 to follow and then UFO in the early afternoon. Class! RIP Ed.
Thank you for presenting this documentary on Ed Bishop. A most interesting life and career. I recall UFO very well, and you're right about Ed Bishop's portrayal of Commander Straiker. Again, many thanks for putting this forward.
What an AMAZING actor with a TREMENDOUS career. I've been watching episodes of "UFO" here on UA-cam and his portrayal of Cmdr. Straker is "spot on" every episode. I also think Ed would have made a GREAT James Bond. Rest In Peace, Ed.
RIP Ed Bishop again One of Gerry Anderson's hidden treasure trove of Underrated actors that had a very long and stored career. My personal favorite role that he played was that of Ed Straker in UFO when the show came to American syndication in 1973 I was Nine at the time and always dream about the future and what the future wound be like that show had a Mod like retro futuristic 70s vibe to it and was really cool !!! I ever thought when he portrayed Ed Straker that the wig he was wearing was his actual hair!!! Lol ... It just seemed to fit his character so well !!
Still watch U F O to this day & still enjoy it . Ed Bishop is excellent as Commander Straker . A classic series . Used to like Captain Scarlett as well .
It never ceases to amaze me how much Ed did for TV, Films and Radio. I still think his best work was in UFO as Commander Straker.. Long my he live on in our hearts...❤🙏☮
I was lucky enough to meet ed bishop once at convention way back he was very friendly and would answer any questions he was asked by his fans my favourite was him in UFO
I'm just watching UFO in earnest for the first time and maybe it's my age but the pacing is great, it doesn't feel rushed and it's telling stories well that remain relevant. It's got great cultural spread much like Star Trek and even issues like reliance on computer generated courses of action remain highly relevant. To have produced something 50 years ago that has no CGI but still holds up is testament to the brilliant crew and actors working on these shows.
Absolutely one of the best actors of our time. In 2021, I still enjoy reruns of the UFO tele series and continually rediscover Ed's skillful and articulate portrayal of Cmdr Straker. He was a unique talent.
So Ed Bishop was only ~37 years old when he played Commander Straker. Somehow I thought he looked young to play someone in such high authority in a major organisation, however, it doesn't take away from the superb job he did as Straker. Like Michael Billingtion as Paul Foster said in the episode Kill Straker! "... Quite a guy,"
I just found out about UFO recently and am watching all the episodes on Amazon. I can say it is one of my favourite shows of all time. At first I thought it was silly with the late 60’s clothing, but boy was I wrong. Some of the episodes pack a wallop right between the eyes. Straker was center with his decisive, no nonsense leadership. I hope SHADO defeats those evil and tricky aliens in the end, especially after the sacrifices his character had to make. Ed Bishop seemed like he was a wonderful guy.
This was great to see, I've been a big fan since I first saw UFO as a kid in the 70's. Very interesting to see Ed Bishops other work. As a fan of the show and Gerry Anderson's work, I appreciate the hindsight and how it makes you feel closer to the actors even though we don't personally know them. Cheers and thanx for this upload.
Glad to have watched this. Mr Bishop's role as Straker was so precise that the two were interchangeable. Yet you knew that Ed was that caliber of great actor that you looked forward to anything else he did, expecting yet another great portrayal. Thanks to your documentary, I got to see a great actor's career, as well as realizing that Mr. Bishop was very pleasant and dignified. All in all, Ed was happily a great man, whose spirit shone in the roles he played. Confetti check A-OK!
Great documentary. My Dad's brother went to High School with Ed Bishop. I tried to follow his career, but he was mostly working in the UK and not many of those programs were broadcast in the states. Still enjoy Captain Scarlett. Would like to see UFO again
The BBC Radio Ed Bishop version of The Big Sleep from 1977 was done at the same time that the Michael Winner directed ITC feature film version of The Big Sleep with Robert Mitchum was filming in England
I am a big fan of "UFO" TV series. I used to watch it in the 70's. Ed Bishop was the central character of such a great show. Paying tribute to his memory by broacasting UFO tv series again in the Mexican TV, will be fantastic
Thank you SO much for creating this video! A beautiful job and wonderfully and thoughtfully put together. Ed Bishop/Ed Straker is one of my all time superheroes, and I count myself very lucky and honoured to have met Ed on many occasions: a true gentleman, sincere, honest and more decent a man I have ever met. It makes me So very happy that even after nearly 50 (fifty) years, people still care enough to take the time and trouble to create this kind of amazing work. I simply cannot thank you enough. A wonderful job :)
Ed Bishop has been the hero of so many things that I loved as a kid and still do today. His voice is instantly recogniseable, his characters distinctly different. He was a truly talented man and one of my favourite actors.
Thank you for putting this together. I thoroughly enjoyed learning some more about the coolest dude I remember from the seventies. Such a shame he went so young. All that smoking on set on UFO didn't help I guess!
A magnificent recounting of Ed's life and career, and I hope that his comparison of UFO to Disney will be shown to be (as I believe) a significant underestimation of his show's value and longlived popularity😃!
Amazed while watching Cholditz, that he was also the American officer that liberated the prisoners. Its not that we didnt see him in american film, it was just the fact that he was only given bit parts, and so, not as well known as he should have been. And thats a shame. He was a fine actor.
I'm glad you do videos showcases the lives of Anderson stars, on and off the shows. Ed Bishop is truly iconic for is roles and definitely iconic voice, having been heard in so much. Forever talented. Forever kind and heartwarming. He will be missed very greatly, always. 🙏🏻❤
As I live in America, I didn't get to see very much of Ed's work for Gerry Anderson's Supermarionation work, such as "Captain Blue" in the "Captain Scarlet" show. I did see, and like, the program "UFO" in which he starred, and ever after was happy to recognize him when i saw him in a film or television show. I wasn't aware that he had died. Rest In Peace, Ed.
What a great post of a fine actor ,for me captain blue and Ed straker are my favourite roles ,I always knew he was a gentleman ,RIP sir and thank you for your work Ed ,
Excellent video documenting the life of Ed Bishop, I was born in the year UFO came out and it has become one of my favourite Sci Fi television series of all time. Ed's acting is first class and his work will live on thanks to the likes of Fanderson and videos like this.
Many thanks for the excellent mini-documentary! Ed Bishop always had a really distinctive and rich voice, and it was always a pleasure to hear him, especially when he unexpectedly popped up - like in the bizarre Stainless Steel and the Star Spies that was mentioned ("Hey, kids, that's Ed Bishop doing that voice! Let's watch UFO again!"). Many thanks for giving us so many clips of the mighty Mr Bishop.
tryptychUK But he never needed a job outside of showbiz. He may not have been a megastar, but he had an awesome life. I know a lot of actors who would give an arm for half of what this man did.
A big break did come his way. The role of Straker was one which stayed with him the rest of his life - which meant he always had a connection for the public. In the end he had an interesting career and clearly enjoyed his work with Gerry Anderson.
I watched UFO back in the early 70s when i was only 12. It was my favorite show. I had such a huge crush on Straker, i thought he was sooo handsome. lol Now when i see these clips of him i STILL think he's handsome. Such a striking look, those incredible blue eyes . Very sexy dude! Even with his own brown hair..
really a first class actor and excellent documentary.I first saw Ed or heard him as Captain Blue but really was impressed by his work as Ed Straker in u.f.o.always was a pleasure to either see or hear him in whatever he was involved in.Nice to hear that Mr. Bishop had humanitarian side to him and He will always be one of my favorites for his work in the Anderson projects.also I see that I am going to have to track down some of the projects that you covered here that I have not yet seen-well done!!
The business of acting is difficult. The building manager of my apartment in Los Angeles does acting gigs for years. Ed Bishop is one of the few lucky ones who had a career in the industry. Oh, the blond wig Ed was holding reminds me a fallen world leader, lol
Growing up in the 70's, there were, for me at least, three actors who had great screen presence ; Steve McQueen, Clint Eastwood and Ed Bishop. Ed's portrayal of Colonel Straker was and remains magnetic and totally believable. To this day, I still think Gerry Anderson and the powers that be, made a huge mistake in not making a second season. The show they produced instead ; Space 1999, was IMHO, nowhere near as good.
The reason UFO didn't go on to a 2d year is that Lord Grade (head of ITC Entertainment) reportedly didn't want Gerry to produce a 2d season. Grade asked Anderson to produce an entirely new sci-fi series, and SPACE:1999 was the result.
@@allenjones3130 Indeed. They had cold feet because the ratings in the States dropped a little despite the good reviews . I'd like to see a new version made but without the WOKE agenda that seems to be in every tv show and movie these days.
Although underappreciated in his lifetime, his charismatic presence as an actor, combined with his unmistakable voice and innumerable voice acting credits, means that his work will be remembered fondly for generations.
I loved UFO, Cmd. Straker...but then definitely a fav....but then Ed Bishop had such an instantly recognisable voice. (Unrelated note....leave it You-Tube...that 'IS' how you spell 'recognisable').
Yes I learned more information about Ed's life and work. I'm sure I first saw him in Lolita and then 2001: a space odyssey. And then UFO! He did have a very distinctive voice. I always watch UFO many times a year as well as 2001. I hope his children still have that watch.
Did you learn anything new about Ed’s career? What’s your favourite role he played?
Gerry Anderson, will you ever do more of some of the other cast?? 🤔 Frances Matthews, Janna Hill, etc etc, would love to know more, will never get bored 😀
Matt Millman next ep in a couple of weeks
Gerry Anderson, thank you very much!! I really wish he did more than 8 of the audio episodes, he could quite easily have narrated all 32 episodes, his voice strikes the right cord!! 😀
Gerry Anderson Ed Straker..no doubt at all...greetings...
Without hesitation, it's Straker.
Criminally underrated and underused actor. Ed Bishop was fantastic.
The truth.
Ed Bishop had a Superb voice period. His delivery is top 10 all time. What makes him so special too me is his use of British vocabulary but in his Boston accent. Brilliant Performer.
He worked in Canada as a dj perhaps hence U.S./ Canuck mash up voice

One of my favorite actors and his Ed Straker character was the BEST! Great presence and of course, his VOICE!

Tough, unforgiving job

You'd wind up being a bit rattie after that....
The Commander down under.

Superb actor and so underrated. His role in UFO was fantastic.
Commander Straker is one of THE great TV characters of all time.
One of the very best. A great actor and a fine human being. Greatly missed.
Ed Bishop, just as cool as Ed Straker.
UFO was a great part of my Saturday afternoons as a kid. Thunderbirds in the morning, Space 1999 to follow and then UFO in the early afternoon. Class! RIP Ed.
I've just watched an episode today on channel 68. fab!

Very good reminiscence of Mr Bishop...such a fine actor he was...may he rest in peace...

Ed Bishop, David Healey and of course Shane Rimmer all of them bloody marvellous
Ed Bishop is an unforgettable part of my childhood. I've never heard anyone say a bad word about him.

Thanks for the contribution, you made the world a better place.

Griff Wason glad you enjoyed! 😊
All in the past. One day we will all have to go.
Ed Bishop and Shane Rimmer, 2 of my all time fave character actors from my childhood...
He was utterly brillant, as an actor.
His Philip Marlowe radio performances where absolutely brilliant.
They were and remain incomparable.
wow ,habe ihn in den anderen filmen gar nicht erkannt als ,habe ihn aber schon oft gesehen .. , sehr guter schauspieler
One of the greatest TV series of all time. Simple as that
Ed Bishop has been the hero of so many things that I loved as a kid and still do today.
The sad parallel for Ed Bishoo and Straker is that they both lost a son to a car accident. I believe Ed is buried close to his late son, Daniel.

A cornerstone of my childhood memories watching TV at home and on holiday in our caravan. Beautiful, magic memories. Priceless.

Many thanks for giving us so many clips of the mighty Mr Bishop.
Great presentation! He also appeared in the 1983 film"The Lords of Discipline" .
I'm glad you mentioned Caves of Steel, that was my favourite after UFO.
Such a unique acting voice. Also thanks for crediting him with the v.o. role as the unseen US President in Threads.
Great memories of Ed Bishop, RIP Ed.
Great actor !!!!!
Thank you for everything Ed Bishop!
Captain Blue from captain scarlet and the mysterons! That's my favourite performance!
I met Ed once and we had a brief chat. A charming man. A shame he never got the big breaks.
tryptychUK But he never needed a job outside of showbiz. He may not have been a megastar, but he had an awesome life. I know a lot of actors who would give an arm for half of what this man did.
True. Most actors, unless they are big names never get to work full time.
Limitations came his way.
@andy morris Yeah, and he also became the "token Yank" along with Shane Rimmer as they both lived in UK
A big break did come his way. The role of Straker was one which stayed with him the rest of his life - which meant he always had a connection for the public. In the end he had an interesting career and clearly enjoyed his work with Gerry Anderson.
Great Tribute. Großartig. Danke!
Commander Straker, UFO, Captain Scarlet, simply brilliant as a kid !
Thanks so much for all the work putting this together. So cool.
A hero for me, Ed Bishop.
Superbly produced and edited. Ed would be proud of this. Thank you.
thank you ed for all the entertainment , for the past 50 years. gerry anderson was a genious for casting with help from sylvia
Great job in commemorating a great actor! 👍👍👍
I remember The Mad Death, it was terrifying as a child.
very well researched amazing that you could source so much material from his filmography
UFO was my first favorite TV program when I was 13 years old, and Straker was my first love 😍
Amazing voice
I watched UFO back in the early 70s when i was only 12. It was my favorite show. I had such a huge crush on Straker, i thought he was sooo handsome. lol Now when i see these clips of him i STILL think he's handsome. Such a striking look, those incredible blue eyes . Brilliant appraisal of a truly unforgettable talent.
Ed Bishop's role as Captain Blue was a huge inspiration for me, and I'm definitely going to check out the other roles showcased in this video.
What was your inspiration please?.

He said. Captain Blue.
Excellent tribute to a fine actor and personality! Thank you for producing this!
Terrific mini documentary about the amazing Ed Bishop. Thank you for it. 🛸
UFO could have grown in so many directions. what a story platform they established.
@@DANTHETUBEMAN Exactly. Anderson bottled it and went for the inferior Space 1999 . Which looks incredibly dated.
@@halcyon289 the UFO show ended, but they saved some jobs with 1999
Did not know he was in so many shows.
Although underappreciated in his lifetime, his charismatic presence as an actor, combined with his unmistakable voice and innumerable voice acting credits, means that his work will be remembered fondly for generations.
Rest in peace, Ed.
Lovely, well thought out documentary
Wonderful tribute. Thank you for posting this.
I forgot to say:I liked Ed Bishop in;Ufo,as Edward Straker,too!(in;1969-1970).
I loved UFO, Cmd. Straker...but then definitely a fav....but then Ed Bishop had such an instantly recognisable voice.
(Unrelated note....leave it You-Tube...that 'IS' how you spell 'recognisable').
you saved the world commander Ed Straker.
That he did.
Yes I learned more information about Ed's life and work. I'm sure I first saw him in Lolita and then 2001: a space odyssey. And then UFO! He did have a very distinctive voice. I always watch UFO many times a year as well as 2001. I hope his children still have that watch.
Thanks for uploading, had to watch all the way through in one go, never knew what would come next.
Well done, great documentary. I didn't know Ed had done so much.
And everything he did was of the highest quality!
Watching this, thought he was undervalued.
