Bakery in New York’s Chinatown celebrates 70,000 free meals during year of pandemic support

A bakery in New York City’s Chinatown has been giving out free meals daily since April 2020. That’s when Patrick Mock, who manages the 46 Mott Bakery, started organising food deliveries to help the needy in a community devastated by the Covid-19 pandemic. Mock and his group of volunteers have distributed more than 70,000 meals in the year since. As they marked the first anniversary of the programme on April 23 by handing out 500 free meals, Mock reflected on how the pandemic has changed him personally as well as how it has reshaped his neighbourhood.

I am very sad for him losing his father but very happy knowing that his raised a kind, generous and compassionate son that he could be very proud of.

That is admirable, not just because he would on average have to make hundreds a day, but because he was willing to give them all out at no charge to the recipients.
Hoping he gains that respite in life he so deserves. Truly inspiring.

@@BeastlyBen007 Like he once told me, you can't just assume a person's situation. There's always going to be a few that are going just to get a free meal, but that doesn't mean because of that you ignore those that are in need. He also goes to the homeless and passes out meals for them. If you want to see it for yourself, you can volunteer and help pass out meals too.
Heroes don't always wear a cape. They walk among us unnoticed most of the time. Respect🙏

Patrick Mock was invited to our school to talk to us about this situation and since it was Chinese New years, he performed a lion dance. (I'm not lying)

What a lovely person this man is, how he cares for his community and other people even when he struggled with grieving for his father, and with the survival of his business and livelihood. Such an inspiration for his community, his city, his country, and our world.
