  • I explore the idea of feeding power into the Zoom F8 audio recorder using a battery pack with ten AA batteries. In order to get it right, you'll need to use the Hirose power connection on the side of the Zoom F8, which is capable of accepting anywhere from 9 to 16 volts DC. The point of this experiment is to keep the F8 running longer than it does using the standard, 8-cell battery pack which slips inside the recorder. The Hirose connection cable cost me about $36 but the battery holder and DC connection cable I purchased for this video cost me less than $6... and that was the price of materials to make TWO 1-cell battery packs!
This video is a follow-up to another video I made a few months earlier. • Zoom F8 Audio Recorder...
UPDATE: I found a fun, down-to-earth video about basic soldering which you may enjoy... • Beginner how to Solder
UPDATE 2: Zoom has announced a new audio recorder called the F4, which is sort of a stripped-down version of the F8 that still offers great audio quality. It comes with a HIROSE cable and it appears that all of my power ideas for the F8 will also apply to the F4.

Thanks! It means a lot coming from you. Before I got the F8 I watched a bunch of videos about it and I enjoyed yours best of all! Now I see the specs and photos of the F4 and I see that my power option ideas will apply nicely to that recorder too. That one even comes with a Hirose cable. Hmmm.

Although a little more expensive, may I suggest an Anker PowerCore 26800mAh external battery power bank. Get a lead with a USB to Hirose connector and you're good to go, the difference being Anker PowerCore is reliable well built piece of kit. Considering the amount you have paid out for the recorder, I cannot see the point of skimping on a few dollars or pounds depending where you are from. Also it will last much longer, look more professional, be more reliable and gives you a clear readout on the amount of power you have left. I have have one and use it to assist my pedalpower battery pack for my guitar pedals when I'm away out and about, to boost my camera if filming for a good length of time, and to boost my zoom H6 if I'm recording for long periods in the field. I am soon going to purchase an F8, and my support power will come from my Anker PowerCore 26800mAh power bank. It's just a suggestion though...
