I woke up so physically sick this morning I had to go out and buy some beers. The goal isn't even to get drunk, it's to get a few hours of sleep and not be vomiting. I feel if I can keep tapering down the withdrawal won't be so bad. Please send prayers and support

How's it going mate. I know that feeling all to well. I hate the heart palpitations and feeling your hearts going to explode. I'm tampering and down to half a 4% bottle. The problem with me and probably the same for you is once we get the taste of that thirst drink it becomes an unquenchable thirst and then all bets are of until we pass out. So what I did is I started drinking around 10am 2 hours after waking up as I would still be topped up. I knew once I drank that would be it for the whole day so the next day I started at 11am, then the next midday and so forth until I got to the evening hours. Also if you can towards the latter stages I went from 5% cider to 4.5% cider. Now I'm on my last bit of 4% cider in the evening. Obviously those early hours sober feel your head with videos like this which you are doing. Sober Leon is another good you tuber. Good luck and God bless. We can do it!

If its a bad night, I'll want to "relax". If it's a decent night, I'll want to "celebrate". Who am I kidding....every night will be a tough night. But I'm gonna give it my all. Day 9. I’m finding this so helpful and informative and it really makes me feel I’m not alone. I never considered the relationship with self before and everything you say absolutely chimes. My relationship has been smashed for over a year. Miserable every day. This time it won’t be different - took me 365 attempts to learn that! Madness!
Now after an emotional week I’m starting to find me again in all that rubble. I will learn to love myself. I’m 56 and I don’t think I ever really have

First I'm very sorry about your fathers passing. I began to drink more after my dads death in 2007. In 2017 I had prostate cancer and had surgery and while successful (Praise God) left me without my manhood. This gave me a reason to go on the pity party wagon especially around woman and drink daily. Once I retired and had all this time on my hands, a good look in the mirror and if I wanted to enjoy my final days I knew I had to get off that pity wagon. The result are awesome. I avoid the daily trip to the bar but stop in once every couple weeks on Saturday and order my tall tonic water/2 slices of lemon no ice ($2.00 + $1.00 tip) and have a great time with people. The conversation is no longer about I, I, I, me, me, me but now I listen and enjoy and in a half hour I am home. Happy and sober.

    Great video!!!
I'm currently 8 months sober, out of rehab. I drank almost everyday for 50 plus years. Started in my teens, as a musician. Guitar & vocalist. Spent about 10 years on the road with different bands.
Alot of drinking, drugging & partying.
I'll be 64 next month. I'm fortunate to still be alive. But, speaking of parents. My mom was a major alcoholic. Unfortunately, she succumbed to alcohol at the age of 49, in her apartment.
She wanted to see her 50th birthday so bad.

I have 15 days sober today. These videos are great and so helpful. I can't say enough good things about them. I was a daily binge drinker. Not uncommon for me to lut away a case of beer a day during the week and then on the weekends add a liter of vodka into the mix. My sobriety date is April 8th 2024. In just 2 weeks I already feel fantastic. But for the grace of God go I.

Also it came to me, yes my goals faded and were denied by several unfair life inputs, but also alcohol as a 2nd tier effector. So what do I do with no goals now (I realized crushed goals at about 67)? Well, if I don't like where I'm at in this journey, keep I'm going. Then it came to me, I'm probably still in a sorts of life fog, so keep going until I'm out of the fog, and maybe new goals will appear! That sounded like it rang true. Be patient so I don't become a patient. Keep going. I am making progress from the poison of alcohol and I am not depriving myself from ridding my life of it. Be kind to yourself and be patient with this JOURNEY. It's not a destination, and it's not a task on your todo list. It's practicing discipline and restraint until its no longer an issue. Hello. I here what your saying about wanting to be there for your family. By the way sorry to here about your dad. One of the reasons I quit drinking was because of so much going on in my life. I need to be there for everyone. One of the things when you get older is people in your family start leaving the earth plane. My sister is terminally ill in the hospital with cancer. Also she is in Australia so its so hard cause I can't be there for her. I can't even get a flight because of the pandemic. My mom is in a nursing home with Parkinson's and is immobile and very hard to understand because the disease has taken over. So I have a little bit of wait on my shoulders right now with no other siblings to help. But one thing I've learned is death is part of life and we have to learned to deal with it as best we can. Generally speaking I'm very happy and positive in life and deal with these things one day at a time. I'm on day 7 bro!!!! And staying strong. Thank you for giving me someone to communicate with. Love listening to your stories. Cheers bud!!!

As someone who has a lot less time ahead of me than behind me, I knew that my quality of life was at a breaking point from all the poison I was pouring into my body. When you said, “The only currency we have is time”, I immediately understood what that meant… alcohol was bankrupting my future. I am currently in a slow detox due to the sheer amount that I was drinking (at home, not a bar drinker). Let me tell you, measuring out how much I was drinking for a baseline was a real eye opener! Classic loop. You're aware of what's happening, so now, it's on YOU to decide to walk away. The cravings aren't permanent. There DOES come a day when you don't crave alcohol anymore. Think of all the things you're hopefully not addicted to: Meth, Pills, Coke, Weed, whatever.... If you feel NOTHING for them, You will also feel NOTHING for alcohol other than it's an old associate who you no longer associate with anymore!

You're helping me see things from your point of view. I am rotting myself from the inside out. For many yrs I thought was doing okay by working out hard, challenging myself to do things I thought i couldn't like; skiing, mountain biking, cross country running, and other challenges, yet I was drinking and feeling good about myself for challenging myself. Like you said on one of your videos, we can't be doing both. My drinking finally caught with me, I can't lose the tummy fat and I am always angry if I am not drinking. I don't do what i love doing like woodworking, I can't connect with my kids like I would love to. I must challenge myself to start being sober at least for today. I have challenged myself with everything else but the challenge to stay sober. I did the Manitou Steps in Colorado, Springs (2,744 steps) last summer, when I made to the top, I told myself I AM GOING TO STOP DRINKING. I didn't, I will keep challenging myself. I want to know what it feels like to be sober and completely clean. Thank you for your time! 🥊✌

    • @GettingSoberAgain
      @GettingSoberAgain  Рік тому

Practice makes PROGRESS!!! If you can do all of that, you can certainly do this.
I'll share this with you: when my dad passed away, I hadn't seen him for the last 10 years of his life. I had resentment towards him and he drank more than he should. The last time I got to see him was sleeping next to him every for the last month of his life while he was paralyzed from prostate cancer.
I wished I could have done anything else with him. I didn't know the last time we went for a walk would be the last time. Or the last time we went fishing or played pool would be the last. He chose to drink excessively everyday, "enjoy life" with his new wife, and not to take care of himself and his health decided for both of us.
I decided that I never wanted anyone to go through that pain that I felt the way that I lost him. And I'm sure if your family had the choice, they would choose you at your best instead of you burning the candle at both ends. You're all on the same team. How you choose to play the last quarter of the game is up to you

I genuinely appreciate the love! I'm not qualified to comment professionally on Tinnitus, but I will say that everything I talk about is simply personal experience and also from the experience of many other members.
I would strongly suggest staying on top of those to-do lists, and business plans. When we start looking to distractions (like TV) to tire us out, it leaves us feeling empty and wanting MORE...of something.
Make sure to include exercise to your daily recipe for success and work on limiting your daily stress. Think of stress like an unwanted ingredient to a recipe like too much salt and sugar. Once you put it in, it's hard or nearly impossible to take it out.

Alcohol has always been there to numb that pain. I've been drinking hard for 27 yrs. My marriage only lasted 14 yrs.
