damn, he's an architect of the drug war and years later, his son, the most famous drug addict in the USA has benefitted greatly from the recent shift of perspective to compassion toward drug addicts.
He was not the "architect" rather he was one of many advocates. Biden today opposes the war on drugs. He admits that he made a mistake. Isn't he allowed to change his mind? What's the point of telling him to do better if you don't recognize that he's trying to do better?

Crack epidemic - "treat their de facto heavily segregated-against communities like occupied territory, criminalize the inhabitants and agressively stop, search and arrest man, woman, child on a whim. Explode the incarceration rate and leave an entire generation with felonies, coincidentally rendering them unable to vote (or get a decent job/apartment, etc). Reinforce their 2nd class citizenship.
Opiod epidemic: "these people are not criminals, they are sick. We must bring back mental health access and we must treat this as an addiction, a disease. Kid gloves and marshmellow pillows are needed for these circumstanstially affliced but otherwise upstanding whites".

100% everything you said. We need that 3rd option. I live in the UK and I see what happens in the US affects the WHOLE world. Our government made a big deal about stopping arms supply to Isra-hell, but that's 1% which is meaningless compared to what the USA supplies. I used to think it was Democrat good-guys versus evil Republicans, but when both sides are pro-genocide, the outcome seems mute.

Ok, I agree with many things but we know that crack can cause a much bigger damage than white cocaine. Still I would rather send to jail consumers rather than sellers. Let's see if people will keep consuming it! But they won't do that because thei bussiness is over! They could also legalize it altogether, as my father proposed once (reason why he lost his job). Crack isn’t any worse for you than cocaine. They are the same drug. What people forget is that the two forms are often used differently. Method of intake affects the psychoactive experience and the damage it does to your body. Crack is usually smoked which results in faster uptake and more respiratory damage. Cocaine is usually snorted or taken orally which has a slower uptake and affects different parts of your body.
Both can be cut with all kinds of dangerous stuff, the only real difference is the typical method of consumption. Many cocaine users freebase their own cocaine too, I’ve literally had someone describe to me cooking down their coke in a pan with baking soda as a “cool new way to try it” and when I said “bro you made crack” he was flabbergasted and said someone just taught him that it was more fun to do that and smoke it. “Crack” only came into the public consciousness when dealers started freebasing it themselves and selling freebased cocaine on the streets. It was still heavily used in the 70s when cocaine was the rage, largely by people freebasing their own coke for personal use and not buying the freebase form itself.
