Hey hey. Not sure if you watch the show regularly, but I *think* they may have replaced the clock hand now. In episodes currently going out, you can just about make out that the crack is no longer visible, mainly when the clock zooms in at the end of the letters. Also, the grey section appears to have been painted a bit darker, but that could just be the lighting setup at the same time - which has now been roughly the same for 6 weeks on-screen (perhaps the studio had no bookings for a week or two, so the set wasn't dismantled between filming blocks - either that or my attention to detail is fading).
Yo yo. I actually haven't watched in a while, so this is news to me. Looking at a clip, I think you're right; I can't see the crack anymore, and the outline is definitely darker than it used to be. It makes the blue look brighter. But it's good that they've fixed it. Is the centre circle new too? Hard to see it clearly, but it looks like a different letter pattern to me.
@@JayLS Thought so, though it was only a few weeks ago when I first noticed. Yeah, the pattern in the circle has been different since 8th May last year. They’ll have changed it when both the platforms were rebuilt.
I’m speechless. This is indescribable. The attention to detail you’ve shown here is phenomenal; I particularly love that you’ve added the split in the centre on the clock hand. Is there any possibility of getting the texture seen on the desk? They would be fantastic for the nameplates I’m building for the FOCAL events.
Thanks Adam. I thought if anybody noticed the broken hand, you would! The clock is running faster too, after your last video. Here's the updated desk texture: onwardigo.files.wordpress.com/2022/10/desk00.png onwardigo.files.wordpress.com/2022/10/desk01.png
@@JayLS of course 😅 It would be great to see how the full set is looking with the tweaks made. I don't think it's possible for you to get this closer to the real thing now. It's astonishing.
@@AdamBeachDesign Yeah, it would be nice to do a full set shot for the blog at some point, but at the moment I've only brought the clock shot up to this level; the rest is a bit of a mess. There are some other tweaks I need to make too, like the centre circle which still uses a texture made in 2011 - probably time to retire that! - and the letters lighting on the studio floor.
@@JayLS Erm, I will not tolerate you describing it as 'a bit of a mess'. I bet it looks overwhelming. Not one thing you've ever done is a mess. The centre circle seems impossible to get the proper design for. Had I not been a shy pussy at the studio last year, I'd have taken an overhead photo of it for your reference. Oh well.
@@realmimix Well, I already made the presentation graphics with Pacdude Games. That's probably as close as it's going to get to a game, at the moment anyway.
Hey Jay. I've just come across your wonderful blog post showcasing this video (and the wooden set). The visuals looks outstanding as usual - how do you do it? Do you think we could we get some additional shots of the letters board? The floor pattern looks a lot cleaner now as well, and the desk is just magical. Speaking of which, the left side wedge will finally(!!) be reinstated from tomorrow's show as they are lifting onscreen social distancing. Whooo!
Thanks so much. I'm pleased with how it all turned out :) I've added a letters shot to the post (though the boards themselves haven't changed much since the Countdown Throwdown stuff). I was wondering when they were going to drop the distancing. Presumably that means they can bring back the prize presentation aswell.
@@JayLS no, thank you. And so you should be, because it's perfect - and I don't use that term often. Oh, that looks sensational... I'll be highly disappointed if you're not approached to produce a concept for the next set, whenever that may be (although, admittedly, as someone who doesn't adapt very well to change, I would like the incumbent design to be around for a good few years yet). Same here. It's about time they got back to normality like the rest of the world has. I can't see why the prize presentation shouldn't go ahead now, but we'll find out in due course.
@@AdamBeachDesign Well that's great. Perfect is perfect. And you're the aspiring set designer here, so surely they should ask you. ;) I can't see the current set going anywhere just yet. I still think of it as new - which I guess speaks well of it - but it's been around for nearly as long as the stripes, which had become very stale by this point. I do think they could have gotten another year or two out of the previous blue one, were it not for bits of it looking quite battered towards the end.
@@JayLS yeah, the aspiring set designer with not one bit of experience in 3D 😂 Good. It needs to hang around for longer. Same here. The thought of it being in use for over five years now is perplexing, actually. It doesn’t seem real. The stripes were dreadful, so that’s understandable. The old blue one was “too blue”, but admittedly looked much better after they brightened it up in 2013. Before that it looked dingy and unwelcoming in my opinion.
@@AdamBeachDesign There's still time! Yes, surprising it's been that long already. It must be a good set if it still feels fresh. You're right that the previous one was very blue. The new one is clearly better for that. But I quite liked the cage behind the letters board and the bolder wall pattern. I thought it looked very swish when it first appeared, much slicker than previous sets. But I do see what you mean. The backdrop looked more vivid after 2013.

Thanks to these clips - www.youtube.com/@bjoern.gumboldt - we can see the new hand appeared on 4th December. Another one for your list ;)

Amazing as always Jay.

Very nice and detailed!
Many thanks as always. Yep, it's definitely a step up from the last attempt :)
Hey there, Jay! Nice to see a new clock. I personally think it’s amazing. Do you still use C4D for these?
Hi Evan :) Glad you like it! Yes, it's still C4D.
Cool! Could I make a suggestion please?
@@realmimix You could...
Thanks. My suggestion was to try and make a game out of this. It’d be really cool to see a hyper-realistic countdown game.
